My parents were super restrictive about what movies we could watch (I didn't see an R-rated movie until I was 16), but they let us read whatever we wanted. I read Firestarter when I was like 11 or 12, and that has stuck with me forever. Anything I write always has a touch of King in it.

To think people actually *sneered* at Stephen King's work, back in the day, saying it wasn't "good" literature. Now his ideas & stories have probably influenced a generation of storytellers *:)*

Wizard and Glass is the best Dark Tower book, hands down.
It’s not that the books which come after don’t have their moments. The Dark Tower (book seven) is also quite good but book 4 had King really firing on all cylinders.

I was already a fan of horror when I read my first stephen king book back in the early 80s, when i was about 12 years old. I'd already been going to see every horror movie that came to the local cinema and those on cable tv, but horror became a full time hobby when I read 'salem's lot, having seen the 2-part tv movie a few years earlier (which scared the crap out of me). it's clear that CBG 19 knows and loves her SK, but I'm a bit surprised she lists "Insomnia" as one of her favorites; i remember it being the first novel that was blatantly self-referential (no spoilers), and the first that felt too long and too slow and kind of dull. But hey, to each his or her own. She's clearly a huge SK fan, and this video got me to search for SK books I've missed in the last few years. Also, thanks CBG for the best breakdown of the Dark Tower series ever! They should have hired you as a consultant on the movie.

The fans gave it crap (because it wasn't a horror novel) but it is an excellent book and it's where we first meet Flag (Randall Flagg). Also as a high fantasy fan as a child it's the book that introduced me to Stephen King's work and i went out after i finished it and bought Cycle of the Werewolf. Oh and the Syfy channel announced that they were developing "The Eyes of the Dragon" for potential television adaptations.

Because wonder woman is my favorite superhero and she's in it but anyway in the Q&A you talk about the maiden mother and crone and I feel like even though I'm late in dune club its oddly syncing up with this current run of comics I just read and I thought that was really cool and scary and exciting how that all worked out. Hello CBG19,
This video is great and very truthful but something is buggggggggggging me : why are the quotes wrote as "Steven" instead of Stephen? :p
Except at 17mins where it's written correctly ;)
    Otherwise, nothing to complain about.
May I just add that :
    - Nightmares at 20000 feet, mentionned at 5mins. The story is in the book "Flight or fright" that he co-edited, about everything that could go wrong while flying.
    - The Dark Tower : very well mentionned and summarised! Did you know that Steve gave an outline to his son Joe in order to be able to conclude it, if he was to pass away before finishing it?
    :)

Have you taken a chance to read anything by Thomas Ligotti? He is referenced as being one of the main influences on True Detective season one. I know that he is nowhere near as prolific as King, but I believe Ligotti truly understands fear in a way that few could hope to comprehend

Have you read James Herbert? King is a big fan of him and growing up in England Herbert got me into King. Great video.
