This things were HUGE in latinoamerica. Thank you for sharing. Jodorowsky meant a lot to us, weird latino kids (and from very different generations) who needed an eccentric esoteric uncle in our lives.

Wow, you’re going deep into the vaults for this one. You’re doing such a great service for the art form, very much appreciated.

Yup. David Lynch had a strip called, “The Angriest Dog in The World”. It ran from the late 70s into I think as late as the early 90s. Even though it’s pretty much the same strip layout and art I’d love a collection of it to have and read.

Always find anything involving Jodorowsky incredibly interesting. The fact that he made comics himself is a both surprising and expected

3:00 Thanks for covering these types of works even with your clear destain and repulsion for anything that questions things beyond our systematic & controlled material world. HaHa The opposite is why I was so happy to see this and the Philip K Dick videos covered. Will have to do a full read though of this one too.

Reminds me a bit of Heinz Edelmann (Yellow Submarine) and yes, Peellaert, but it seems like this came first or at least simultaneously. I think it was just a visual approach that was in the trippy zeitgeist at the time: Fillmore Dance Posters, Peter Max, R. O. Blechman, the op ed art of the NY Times, even the art that Crumb was a part of at American Greetings, the aesthetic was blooming everywhere.

Ha! I picked this up at The Strand after having a terrible day in like 2018. So cool to finally learn more about it.

The Robert Crumb variant cover is dope, same for The Peanuts one I saw on Facebook today. I will try to grab them in France. The Panic Fables is an interesting piece, as it show that, no matter which is the medium, and through decades, Jodorowsky practiced his whims, for the best, and, concerning the people annoyed by his guru side, for the worst. Beyond this comic book, there was also a panic movement, of which Jodorowsky was a member, with Arabal (the founder), Topor, an many other artists. Thanks again for your work and your eclectism.

the PANIC crew (Paris, 1962-73) would certainly have been familiar with the Situationist International (1957-72), which grew out of Isidore Isou's pangenrificational lettrisme crew, many of whom combined extralinear literary devices with extended comic techniques - almost certainly where Jodorowsky would've picked up his lettriste comic tendencies such as at 7:04. i don't doubt that he would've been at least passingly familiar with the international concrete poetry movement that gathered steam in the 195os (with its antecedents in the Zurich dada of the 19teens) & "Fando y Lis" conflates a multitude of genres that include lettrisme, film, performance art, painting (art brut), etcet; true "borderblur"!

I just picked up Red Room TPB 1 and it’s sunk it’s hooks in quite deep (pun intended)
I can only hope Mr. Piskor keeps the depravity going. Despite its themes and nature, it’s an excellent insight, speculative or not, into the potentials of how that “fabled” world could actually function.

Any possibility of reaching out to George Perez for a shoot interview? He's been in my thoughts ever since yesterday and would love for him to get the Cartoonist Kayfabe treatment.

Initiatory, means there is a process of initiation, in which one goes from one state to another. Like the initiation rite into freemasonry for example.

Jodorowsky is a freaking cult leader. And he's oddly one of the reasons why we got Cyberpunk because if he hadn't "recruited" Dan O'Bannon then O'Bannon wouldn't have met Moebius and wrote for Heavy Metal. I REALLY don't like Jodorowsky the person but the dude ultimately has quite an influence on comics and western pop culture by proxy.
Seriously though, who drugs a bitch and takes them to Paris to make "Movies"? Shits straight up "Hashashin". Ed freaking gets it.
