    Damn, that's deep! Your comparison of Wally to celebs in the real world ending their lives because society has told them fame will give them meaning in their life! This is why I love watching your videos! Keep it up chica!

    I was unknowingly practicing chaos magic under the unfluence of many psychedelics a few years ago. I tried to make frogs come to me. They started appearing everywhere. One even hopped on my porch. The neighbors got a new mailbox with frogs..
    For a small amount of time I figured out how to become Sorceror Supreme, then I lost it to psychosis. True story.

    Nihilism isn't negative, it leads you to realize nothing means anything by itself and it's you who inflicts meaning into shit, which is awesome.

      Knowing that it is the self who imbues meaning is where nihilism turns into existentialism.

    she was close but thats not what the theory meant. it means that when your unhappy thats all in your own head, its your state of mind, its your version of the universe. and since the universe only exists in your own mind you and only you can change it. if you want to be happy you need to make that decision to be happy. so if your unhappy its because your not taking responsibility for your own state of mind. ITS ALL A STATE OF MIND

    So at the time of me writing this, this video has about 60,000 views. That seems to be below average for the other videos from CBG19. It definitely doesn't come close to any of her popular videos like Ender's Game which has over 140,000 views.
    So can we conclude that the sigil experiment didn't work?

      Actually the more I watch this video - the more I'm recognizing the stoicism. Which is a good way to think in a way but not everyone understands this or is capable of unlocking this kind of thought process and not everything is in your control - especially when you don't believe you're in control.
      I like the overall message but if someone is already down and you start saying everything is their fault you're probably just going to make them feel worse. You have to show them and help them see what you see- make them open to and understand it.

  • @DorimantHeathen
    @DorimantHeathen 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never thought that a video about some obscure (at least, to me) comic book (I don't even read em at all) could be so enriching, profound and interesting. Love you, CBG! Great channel, I especially like your movie reviews. And you are awesome.

  • @dougiestar2812
    @dougiestar2812 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Embrace love over fear. Awesome message!
    Only you can make yourself happy. YES I totally agree.
    If you are bored, stop being boring. Holy shit that is so true and so deep!
    Art is powerful and important. Most definitely!
    A bunch of people wanking will make a comic book better.... Ummm huhhhh?
    If only you can make yourself happy/better. Then how is the fact that I write your sigil on a piece of paper and keep it in my wallet supposed to make your channel any better? Don't you see that you are relinquishing control of your life and giving it over to some mystical woo bullshit? Take control of of your own damn life. Don't give in to weak minded wishful thinking.
    Now of course this would be different if it actually works. Then I'd have to admit that I don't have control over my life and that a bunch of teenagers wanking all at once could cause me to include a fatal error in my work and mess everything up. But before I believe it works, I'd need to have some real evidence. (And no, I'm not convinced by a successful comic book artist organizing a wank party which leads shockingly to him producing another successful comic book.)
    If this shit works it will work in a controlled experiment not just when the universe mysteriously wills it to work. A bunch of people walking around with your sigil in their wallets may be good advertising for your channel or it just might be a load of crap. But I'll believe it's magick when I see it.
    It's a shame that you ruined some really good messages with your appeals to superstition. But as you pointed out Oprah and lot of others are guilty of this weak minded shit all the time, so why not you?

    She misunderstood the comics. It has little to nothing to do with chaos magic. It is about creativity, destroying our icons, and the importance of positivity and imagination. There is about 3 minutes of worthwhile info in this video.

    • @EFarley81

      +Henry Gylling She said it was created as a work of chaos magic, not that it was a central theme. You criticize her, meanwhile, your interpretation is so shallow and reductive, it sounds like you just rushed through the material so you could do a sixth grade book report on it. Please, explain to us how, "creativity and "the importance of positivity and imagination" are different things, and not just you being redundant as fuck.

    • @romas1995
      @romas1995 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Henry Gylling Chaos magic and odern occultism is heavily based on the change of consiousness and the influence of manking through art and creativity instead of consumerism. You are saying the same thing. Don't let the word "magic" put you out of it thinking its mumbo jumbo. There are just words and sketches powered by imagination.

  • @Hidden_Lizard

    WTF? I had no idea so many people are walking around being so pessimistic that they would need this comic to tell them how to overcome their fatalistic view of the world. Is this tied to depression and chemical imbalances? Because it sounds like a hopeless outlook on life that I just cannot relate to. I've never done drugs, I've never been drunk, I've never felt the numb my senses because I can't handle life. And I've never felt I wasn't strong enough to handle what life had in store. I knew there were things I wouldn't be able to attain, but I always just focused on doing what I could to attain the things that were possible for me. I can be materialistic, but it always is in service of pursuing a simple, happy life.
    I wonder what primitive tribesmen that are alive today would think about these problems that people in our society have. When your whole life is simple and you get satisfaction out of simple endeavors, can you even comprehend what a "Rockstar" who is on the verge of suicide is thinking?

    "If you are unhappy, it's probably because you are a negative jerk!" This kind of evangalistic positivism puts the blame on people who may suffer outrageous circumstances and tragedy. It does not help people overcome their problems -- it merely puts the burden of guilt over their own shortcomings for not just "being happy."

You made a great comment about adding a Lovecraftian story arc to a future season of AHS. We would love to see you discuss the new season of AHS and Dragon Con itself. • @RicRags
    @RicRags 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They used the secret instead of magick because in the book think and grow rich that "The Secret" was directly copied from, Napolean Hill calls it the secret. Only thing from Think and Grow Rich that was not in "The Secret" was the part where you apply your philosophy to action. Because it wouldn't seem as easy if you actually had to do something.. Think and grow rich requires you to apply your thoughts and intentions to action. So that's my ranting. This video is excellent and the comic sounds excellent. Will check it out based on your recommendation. Art really is magic, Whenever I write sometimes I find myself completely tuned out and not realizing that the words are still being written almost without me. Where is that coming from? How did stories appear in my mind for no reason?? That is magic to me. Love your videos I think you do excellent work.

  • @ParadoxPerspective
    @ParadoxPerspective 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It means second to last if last is the greatest value in that series.
    Ex: "An Olympic Silver medal is the penultimate achievement for an athlete."
    "99 is the penultimate number of 1-100"
    It does NOT mean: "I finished the race second to last; I am the penultimate runner."
    "Liberia is the penultimate of the richest countries in the world, the poorest being Congo."
    Having a penultimate goal is your second most important goal. It is not the second last thing you'll ever want to do.
    Understand?

  • @JamesMayLove
    @JamesMayLove 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your definition of Magick reminds me of Noetic science...which to explain quickly, states that thoughts have an actual mass that can be measured. The more you think about something the more mass that thought has and therefore more power/weight. Also if you have a multitude of people concentrate on the same thing you multiply the power of that thought exponentially.

    I'm a new subscriber and love your channel. While I haven't read Flex, yet. I love your take on comics/movies. There has to be some meaning to the material to connect to readers/viewers or whoever your audience is. I am a believer of willpower even though I myself I have strayed to the mundane from time to time that shouldn't be an excuse though. It is refreshing and gives me hope for the future of humanity which I believe is inherently good. I loved The Invisibles and what it represents. Ask fucking questions! I like to think Batman R.I.P. was Morrison showing that through shear force of will, which is what Batman represents to us puny humans is there is nothing you can't overcome. Even if you have to make a back up copy of your mind or go in to safe mode. I love what you're doing and as long as you keep true to yourself this fanboy will be there.

    I used to be an atheist. 1,300 miles from home when I was 23 I had an experience with Christ that I didn't want and did not expect. Now I serve God, travel around the world and I have seen REAL miracles (and so have others that have been around me) which are of love to glorify God and His message, not men. I must admit that people in the church are at times my worst enemies, but God compels me to forgive them (and puts me among them in different places so I will learn to forgive people more).

    Ha thats funny.The last two years I only liked videos about the financial crisis and Conspiracies.Then I saw your Game of thrones review and I had to break that habit and gave it a like.And now you are talking about people using fear to control us too ^^ After my awakening I changed my life completely. Sold everything I had and invested it in Silver,I now work as a farmer and be more friendly to everyone.Be the change you wanna see in the world! Greetings from Germany and...Winter is coming! ;-)

    WOW, that was the most fun I've had to date watching ANYTHING on youtube, plus I was getting some DAMN GOOD therapy too, LOL. Comicbook Girl, you ROCK!!! Your whole description of the comic, morrison, magick, and waking the fuck-up to take some important RESPONSIBILITY with out lives was PRICELESS/CLASSIC. Now that I have my thank-yous out of the way, how about a review of Alan Moors "PROMETHEA"? Now that was and IS a comic book to end ALL comic books.

    "Existence precedes essence." - Jean-Paul Sartre, in other words, we create the persons we are through the choices we make in our lives. This is the cornerstone of existentialism and, apparently, "Flex Mentallo". However, power relations exist in the world and greatly influence what we can do to alter and improve our personal situations. It's pretty hard to change your life for the better when your head is under a soldier's boot. It sounds like Morrison is being a little naive. .

    Her sigil actually works. I can sense it. I've also created and activated sigils following the work of Austin Spare. They work if done properly.

    Bought the comic thanks to your recommendation, I'm a huge G. Morrison fan, and swalloed the Invisibles back in the day. That comic series goes unnoticed to this day, but despite that its affected a lot of people. I honestly don't think we would have had an Occupy/99% movement without it, certainly not Anonymous. They might as well have called themselves the Invisible Army.

    I guess you have a solid point there, although saying it's only a form of art and entertainment is by no means condemning, after all art and entertainment are nourishment for the soul, with that i meant that being a form of art and entertainment, it requires less study that actual philosophy.

    in the first episode you devalued robots enjoyment of 90s comics, that leads to fear and lack of embrace.
