Whenever the 5800x3D is mentioned I think that the undervolting tutorial should be included . -30v on all eight cores has made a huge difference to me. CPU temp is down between 20-30 degrees for me on CPU intensive games and it's performing even better in benchmarks. And is 100% stable.
Also set PPT to around 100 / 105 👍

That's my take from this. Title is a bit misleading in that sense. Was hoping to hear some suggestions that would be adequate around the conditions/setup they discussed, but they didn't mention any at all.
Went from a 5900x to a 5800x3D (gaming system only). My monitor is 3440x1440p and have it paired with a 3080ti. Overall I feel the system is pretty well balanced and do not have any bottlenecking concerns. My current plan is to skip Ryzen 7000 (even the 3D V-Cache chips), skip RTX4000 and reassess things when the following gen comes out. Time to just enjoy my system for a while rather than be stuck in the never ending upgrade loop in the hunt for more and more FPS.

what is fps difference you seen with 5900x vs 5800x3d? with the 3080ti.
@@turboimport95 Game engine dependent. In something like escape from tarkov you could see 10-25 Fps on the high end and much better % lows. The % lows are the big deal here. Getting higher Fps at this point is going to take further game optimizations. However, in something like Fortnite or CS:GO you may not see any fps difference at all.

People get so obsessed with cpu and gpu bottlenecks but completely forget monitor refresh rates. When I look at cpu benchmarks, any part that is achieving over 240 fps is good for a long time.
Bought a 5800X3D and a 7900XT for a 1080p165hz monitor lol. gonna grab a 2K 240 OLED when they're out though so I'm not wasting the frames and resolution too much
I agree completely. My 5900x will be fine for a long time im sure. "does my x cpu bottleneck" is not the right question. wether or not it gets what you need is what matters. :)

that's untrue for modern games, most of games aren't CS:GO, Siege or Fortnite.

Just upgraded from a R9 3900X to a R7 5800X3D for my RTX 3080 and oh my God. Didn't realise how much that older Ryzen 9 CPU was holding me back! I've gained 20- 30 more FPS on PUBG, COD, HALO and Escape from Tarkov on an Ultrawide but it is my minimum frame rate that have shot up dramatically that are the star of the show. Everything is so smooth now. I struggled with Escape from Takove especially and often droped to 45 - 60 FPS. Now I am hovering over 100 FPS most of the time! I still can't believe it. The content on this chanel is absolutely next level...Thanks again Steve and Tim!

@@mv223 I did set a negative offset in bios to control the temps a little better because everything at default I would hit 90c in heavy loads, I did .028 negative offset and now i only hit 88c in cinebench

EFT is terrible at maintaining cache locality for it's data so makes sense that brute forcing the cache size results in the biggest performance differential compared to other games.
For what is worth (SimRacer here), the comments of FPS requirement is car simulators/games is accurate. I personally use 120fps block on my 144hz panel (I match the refresh rate w/o VSync, of course). Going from 60 to 120 is a HUGE change, specifically to be precise on braking points and markers. Then input latency from 60 to 120 is... ALSO VERY important.
Currently I have a 5800x3D with a 7900 XTX and I can do 200+ fps in games at EPIC settings (ACC for example) and I tried lowering the detail to medium and drive at 300+ fps for a couple of races in some competition environment.
ZERO difference in latency I noted and Zero improvement elsewhere. In fact, I benefit by seeing more detail on the track as a Shadow on the asphalt or a scratch in a wall can better be used as a braking reference. Same for avoiding the trees and far distance cars popping in and out of the image. That distracts you a lot.
So in summary I agree with the "how many fps do you need on a racing game? " comment. Not 'many' is my answer. 60 at minimum. 90-100 is nice. 120-144 is Ideal, anything else is not useful on my personal opinion.
Last note, I dropped my PowerLimit on the 7900 XTX to 90%, the efficiency increase is ABISMAL. At 330w (Aprox) I loose less than 5% of the framerate in Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC)
There is also the thing that CPU utilization can differ massively between games. Some which use a lot of AI entities can suck up the same CPU totally while in another game it'll be barely used. If you're the type of gamer that plays everything, you're bound to have imbalanced scenarios often. There's no optimization that can work across the board. Resolution has the biggest impact though so decide based on that.
This is my problem. I play MMOs, I play single player open world, multiplayer FPS.. and often the same game genre(battle royale) but different game (ex:fort nite, COD). Just decided to save my pennies skip 2 generations and buy the top GPU. Problem solved. My 1080ti still slaps though, ended up selling it for 1/3 of MSRP!
In Assetto Corsa, if you have like 40 cars on a track it can start to display "CPU occupancy %" warnings
I also had a 3900X and upgraded to the 5800X3D for Christmas. I replaced my old Enermax 360 AIO for a Corsair H150i Elite. This past summer, I also replaced my RTX 2060 Super with a Radeon RX 7900XT. I am quite happy with my refreshed system.
I think I am set for a few years. I'll probably skip AM5 and go straight to AM6 when it releases.

@@0riginalfuz sorry dude do not have that game. but the 6950 XT is so far beyond the 3060 Ti it is not even a contest. In some games you have better performance than a 3090 Ti. Weird that you have less FPS.

The F1 22 example is also kinda funny since some competetive racers limit their game to 60 because FPS in this game affect the physics and its easier to drive over the kerbs etc.
Nice video HUB. Also an interesting point to consider GPU and CPU bottlenecks are not equal. A significant CPU bottleneck often delivers erratic frame times with large FPS drops and gives a horrible inconsistent animation experience in a game. Reaching a GPU bottleneck only slightly effects frame times and often gives a far more enjoyable and smooth animation experience in games.
So a tip to the audience if you hit CPU limits before GPU then try to put a FPS cap in place a little below the CPU limit to keep the experience smooth and consistent for your game play.
Due to the nuances of preference play, as you noted, they should include their preferences for gameplay. Such as 1440p high/ultra quality where possible.
I remember when the 2080 ti was a massive cpu bottleneck when it came out. If you're buying a 4090 or 4080 or maybe a future 4080/4090 ti or a 7900xt/xtx you're buying it for futureproofness or for high refresh 4k gaming I have a 7900xtx but I plan on keeping it for the next 2 generations of cards. Don't look to into it people just enjoy your games and enjoy pc gaming as a whole!
To start with, I had a asus b550f mb, r7 3800x cpu, asus rx6800xt, 32g of Corsair ram, 1to nvme gen3. All stock, no updated bios, I would reach 80/90fps in Asseto Corsa Competizione on my 2560x1440 monitor. After updating bios to latest version, was able to switch on SAM and it gave me 110/120 fps. Now that I upgraded and switched my 3800x for the 5800x3d, I reach 220/230 fps max with a solid 144 suited to my 144hz screen. What a beast! And a damn good optimization too !!!
I think it's important to consider you can use technologies like DLDSR to force more work onto a GPU like a 4090 so that a its working hard enough to for the 5800x3D to 'keep up' so to speak. and DLDSR applies to all games so you can really mitigate that bottleneck at ultrawide 1440p in my case.
I plan to pair it (have not bought it quite yet) with RX 6600 that i already have. I mostly play grand strategies and other processor heavy games. And i can always turn down graphics, but i cant compensate for lack of CPU power much. It will also make upgrade simple as i may only need to buy new GPU.
Exactly why I picked up the 5800x3d a couple months back, upgrade from a 3800x. So when I get a 4080 or 4090 soon I will be set for 4k gaming. I can't be bothered to build a whole new system.
What gpu are you using now? I am considering moving from the 3700x. I use a 3080.
@@RyanZinter to be honest, you could pair the regular 5800x (12700k+) or higher and you’d most likely releive your bottleneck. A 5700x is pushing it but anything higher than a 5600x or 12400 will suffice.

@@GTFour People said that about the 3700x and 3800x, as they Are the same silicon, yet i see complainers all over the place with 3700x, where as my 3800x overclocks Way better, getting 4.6 All core, and a 4.7 on the golden cores. All while maintaining 60-65c on Cina r23 loop. Sometimes that golden chip is worth the extra 50$
I have a 5800X (not 3D) paired with an RTX 4080 and I’ve been more than happy with the performance. I prefer to crank all of the graphics settings to max at 1440P and I consistently get over 100 FPS in AAA titles with ultra raytracing enabled and my 4080 is getting a good workout. New games continue to be more and more taxing on the GPU, so I can see my setup being able to play new games at decent settings and 1440P for 5+ years.

I decided to go with a RX 7900 XT with my 5800X and plan to use it at least until the next generation of consoles show up.
I'm kind of a baby step down from you with 5700x with a RTX 4070 for 1440p and I'm having a great time! everything looks real pretty and smooth. I prefer high graphics settings as well for mostly single player games, so I don't need those super high frame rates to be competitive online. I intend to use my system until I upgrade again in another 3-5 years, or until AM5 is affordable enough to make it worthwhile for my casual ass lol
i had same card and had 5900x and changed to the 5800x 3d made a little difference but i got given a i9 12900k system to pair my card and i gained 30 to 40 fps in most games my card was really bottle necked the 5800x is not enough for the 5800x tobehonest u would be better to get a 7700x or any if the intel 12 gen or higher cpu for that video card
I have 5800x3d paired with 3080 10gb, 32gb 3600cl16, x570, 4 gen nvme playing at 3840x1600, absolute beast, -30 all cores curve optimizer, runs very cool and maintaines max boost clock nearly constantly. Since I installed it I noticed 100% gpu usage in most of my games. I can highly recommend purchasing it when you on am4
Almost identical system here, except I run 3800Mhz CL14 RAM (that took a lot of time to dial in!) and I play at 4K 60hz. I don't play online at all and I'm not obsessed with hitting 60fps at all times. I tweak the settings on a per-game basis until I'm happy with the way they look and run. I'm enjoying my system and am certainly not in a position to change it at the moment.

Here in Denmark prices for am5 is crazy, and even a decent intel z690 ddr4 mobo are also still quite expensive, veil a good b550 mobo is hella cheap and also fits into my theme build. And I already got a rtx 3070ti, a good set of 32gb ddr4 ram, and want to try a AMD cpu/x3d, so the plan is to get the 5800x3d. I play mostly Apex, mixed in with a few other types of games here and there, 1080p 240hz competitive settings, but plan is to go 1440p competitive settings. This should last me some years just fine, just as my current intel i7 build has done for about 5 years now.
Here the x3d has a hefty price premium. Nearly 400 USD makes me think if its worth it. The only reason I still consider this cpu are the idiotic prices of motherboards now. My am4 mobo has features which are now mostly gone outside top models which are priced like some luxury.
Great answer with the nuance the question requires. FWIW, on performance mode in Fortnite with a 5800x3D+3070, uncapped I can get about 500-700 fps in a pub and the 3070 is only at about 50-60% utilisation. I would get NO benefit at all from a gpu upgrade, and I didn't notice any difference in Fortnite coming from a 1660ti, which will happily spit out 240fps on low/performance. In Sea of Thieves however, there was a HUGE difference between the 2 GPU's and I'm sure I would see a huge difference again if I went up to a 4090. There are a lot of variables and it's good to see the idea of 'bottlenecking' being addressed properly. All in all, a common hardware unboxed W.
I went for a 3080 and a 5800x3D. Works so good at 1440p, especially in warzone 2 :) I went from 100-110 fps low settings with the 3700x to 150-190 fps with the 5800x3D with high tuned settings. Very happy about the results!
If I'm not mistaken, Warzone 2 is among the few games that heavily favors AMD GPU's.

Running a 4090 and 5800X3D. Mostly play 4K or over watch at 1440p and don’t have any issues with gpu usage being under 100%. It definitely depends on what you play. FS2020 is slow on the ground but the 7000 series is worse, may upgrade to the 7000X3D series if performance is way better.
as you said, it depends, ive got the same processor with a 4080 and it performs great on both 2k and 4k. it depends on the title, some titles are so unoptimized ive got to play them mandatory on 2k cuz on 4k ill never get constant 60fps even with a 4080 and some others i can get steady 120fps on 4k playing a 120hz tv. so it all comes to what you need and what game you are playing.

Currently mine is paired with the RTX 3070 Tuf Gaming OC (overclocked with Precision X1 around 1950mhz) at 1440p, high to ultra settings...and it's really great experience on just about every game. Two things I am considering: 1st, the idea of getting a RTX 4070ti (specifically the MSI Gaming Trio, since the price is closest to MSRP) and also, the AMD 7000 series X3D chips are about to be released (personally, not building a new DDR5 system any time soon ), but just to see how they perform in games, considering they are a NEXT-GEN version of the 5800X3D in every respect. Anticipating Hardware Unboxed reviews and benchmarks!
Nice one! I too am considering a 7000 series CPU with a 4070Ti as my next gaming rig. Will probably go AM5/DDR5 to future-proof it as I tend to only upgrade my gaming PC every 7-10 years. The 7000 series X3D CPU's should be insane if the 5800X3D is anything to go by!

I have mine paired with a 4090 but of course I am playing at 4k and I am not a competitive gamer, so I am pretty much constantly GPU bound anyway and I don't think I lose any significant performance
When they test CPUs generally it is done at 1080p so their not GPU bottlenecked. But for someone in the market for a 4090 isn't playing at 1080p.

@@Jwalker76 I CAN afford one. No problem. I own an Audi RS3 8v and a house together with my wife. BUT I don't WANT to afford one. I don't support evil Nvidias prices. I bought a USED 3090Ti Suprim X for under 900 Euro. And even that is way too much money for a freaking GPU. Unfortunately one has no choice if want to play at 4k Ultra/RT settings if one doesnt want to support the horrendously high priced GPUs from evil Nvidia.
You need to make a video about what best CPU for Open World vs HUB World vs games with corridor-like levels, i think theres a huge void of information for something like that and it might be interesting.

The simple answer to this question is the 3080 or 3080ti or a 6800xt or 6900xt on AMD. This paralysis by analysis is getting old, I expect clarity from from these TH-camrs.

I paired my 5800X3D with my 6800XT. Previously, I had 3600x. I remember on Ghost Recon Wildlands, I was getting 70FPS with 2k Resolution on 3600x whereas after upgrade to 5800x3D, I got close to 144FPS. It was a massive bump. Ever since the upgrade, any graphically demanding game managed to hit 99% on GPU utilization. But on games like RTS game where GPU is less demanding, it hovers aroun 60%. It really does depends on what you play but bottlenecking really does ruin any game.
I went from a 2700x to a 5800x, even with my Vega 64 i got a massive boost, then got a 3d under RMA of my 5800x and now have a 7900 XT with it. I've doubled if not tripled my fps with higher settings. Huge boost.
And I'm at 3440x1440@144.
I had an RX 6800 non-XT and it was getting dogshit framerate on Cyberpunk no matter what the settings are with my Ryzen 5 4600G. At the time of this reply, I am still waiting for several weeks until I can buy a 5800X3D. I hope it was great jump in performance for me.

@@uzer2828 It's not the drivers. I got my 5800X3D 3 weeks ago and there's a massive upgrade bump I had with other games. I went from 45-60fps with Ryzen 5 4600G to 118-139fps on Cyberpunk 2077 with the 5800X3D. Same goes for CSGO. From 150-500fps to 350-1000fps, it was a big upgrade for me.

When benchmarking the 3D chips can you include World of Warcraft? I believe this benefits greatly from the more cache.
I am planning to get 4070ti + R7 5800X3D but the question is that my current air fan for cpu has TDP 168W whille R7 5800X3D max TDP is around 142W so do I really need to get higher TDP air fan in order to keep the temp stable at 80c max or less? Or is my current fan is great enough to handle the temp?
Upgraded to 5800x3d from 5600 paired with my 6800xt. Massive improvement on some games. In warzone 2 I was getting 140-150 with 5600, after I upgraded it went from 220 to 240 fps. Also getting bottleneck when playing cyberpunk or horizon zero dawn when I had my 5600 and Im playing on 1080p. This card and cpu likes to get hot, but undervolt is the way to go
i undervolted 5800x3d -30mv on all cores, not one crash, going on 3 months now. 6800xt as well. definitely undervolt, went from 75c to max 55c on hyperx 212 evo. the gains are huge even from 5600x in newer titles, even older ones. 8 cores, one CCD is king
@@xiono 100% cant go wrong with undervolt. Tried to stress test the 5800x3d stock. Temp goes up to 90c and it thermal throttle a little. Once i put -30 on all cores. Boost clock stayed at 4.4ghz and temps goes 80c max.
@@bluehenz009 4450mhz is max i think. dont want to break it with more voltage. yup all core workload it does get quite hot but for a 5800x (hot chip) with 64mb of extra L3 cache on it, pretty decent.

with 5600 and 4070 in hd u have aoound 5--10% less peroomance coompared with 5800x3d so its thee no botteneck ;)
I upgraded to the 5800X3D because I figured it could easily throughput 144+ FPS at 1440p on most games.
I went for a 6950 XT Sapphire nitro+ (got it cheap, black friday) and a 5800x3D. Battlefield 2042, Valorant are my main games at this moment. and i got at Ultra settings, 170hz 1440p very nice FPS up to 150fps (sky - more than 170fps). all games got a 170FPS limit its also limit of my monitor
Cool and educational video. I am currently running a Ryzen 7 2700 myself, with a 1070 Ti 8GB, and 16GB of 2666MHz DDR4. This has honestly run every single game I have thrown at it on high/ultra at 50-60fps. Even the newest titles like Elden Ring and New World which had some serious performance issues.
However recently I've been getting back in to Rust, and I have some serious issues loading in entities on the map when traveling at high speeds, causing lag. Also in firefights with a lot of people shooting around me frames drop.
Therefore been looking for an upgrade, but not sure if the GPU is the culprit.

I did upgrade from a 2200g to the 5800X3D on a cheap ~50€ board. No regrets.
or get 13600kf for mostly the same price. and 7600 non x build pretty much costs the same in US with a 13600kf build. but if you are in AM4 then yes 5800x3d is the best option.

I had a 3600 and a 1660 super, going up to a 5700x and keeping the 1660 super fixed up all my games that weren't fast enough. Everyone's use is different. Of course yes my build has a GPU in it's future, not yet though.

Had i5-3570k + GTX 970, went with Ryzen 3600 and saw a massive boost in DotA2 which is the only game I play.
I recently bought a 6700 XT and only see fps gains in higher graphics settings.
Will probably buy a 5800x3d and enjoy a constant 144fps in 3440x1440.

I'm using a 5800X3D and RTX 4090 in a B450 Tomahawk with 3866MHz ram running on 3600. I tightened the RAM timings using "DRAM calculator for ryzen". 15% more fps in Cyberpunk in 1440p.

sold my 5900X and bought a 5800x3D last week to pair my 4090 FE with. playing in 3440x1440 at 175hz most titles hit cap on fps which is just what i wanted to maximize the display. most titles benefit from the larger cache, open world, sandbox, mmo. i can grow the 4090 into a faster platform 2 years from now with intels new socket

I have a 5900x with a 4090 on a 4k 120hz tv. Although I’m having great fps in most games, in open world games I often see so much stuttering and huge fps drops. Do you think that an xd3 would help with that?

5900x/4080/LG Oled 120hz Gsync ACC 4k max settings is butter! frames capped at 117. I went from simracing at 30fps,60,90 and now 120hz. It was the single biggest improvement to my driving and lap times.
i think the question can be answered by thinking of the best performing gpu that wont be bottlenecked by a 5800x3d in any situations such as 1080p low or 4k high
A couple of years ago, my and my spouse were upgraded to new systems (Ryzen 5 2600 / Ryzen 5 1600af), went ahead and maxed out ram, etc. The point was to keep the systems through another AM4 upgrade generation with our purchased GTX 1080s (at the cusp of the GTX 2xxx release, after price drops). As such, due to different use cases for us, I have a 5800x3d and they have a 5900x upgrade pending for when I teardown the systems. The GTX 1080s are also, after years of use, getting slight (safety) upgrades to Radeon 6650XTs.
Someone else commented about monitor refresh rates, and this is the important thing (along with resolution), when thinking of the games you play (as this video covers). In our house, we still play at 1080p on 60 hertz displays (one each for the game, a second for browser, Discord, etc.) There is no need for anything more than ~70 fps from the systems. And, in another 2 years or so, the CPUs will still be capable enough (with their 64/32 GBs of ram) for another midrange GPU upgrade (hopefully in a non-overpriced, little gains between generations, GPU market).
Don't chase (waste money on) the absolute high end. Most only need 1440p, 144-160hz, at most. In our house, we don't even need that.
You really should treat yourself to higher than 60hz mate.... You've, literally no idea what you two are missing.
You haven't seen smooth scrolling like this since CRTs back in the arcade... it's worth it. Even a 75hz monitor would be dramatically improved than where you're at with your technology... a 6650 gets more than 100 fps on a lot of games and I mean, it's VERY much noticeable.
Yea I agree with the other dude, 60hz vs 165hz is big difference for me. I got my first 1440p monitor and I don’t see the hype in the higher resolution, but refresh rate is a huge difference.
Upgraded to a 5800X3D from a 3600. Did some bargin' hunting and flipped up to a MSI 3080 for under $100 after my flips. With two 165hz monitors I am set for quite a while.

I'm running a Ryzen 3600 now on a X570 board, partnered with an MSI 3070 card. Constantly thinking about upgrading to a 5800X3d, and just can't decide running games at 1440p max refresh is 165Hz on the monitor. Is it worth it?
Just got my 5800x3d running today! I actually got it over a month ago, but just didn’t have time to install it. I paired it with a 6700xt I got for $330 (used) at the same time. It’s replacing a 5600g, combined it is a huge upgrade.
Not really sure a better video card would be all that beneficial. I have 2 1440p 32” monitors at home and at work - so far I can run everything at max settings. 4k gaming has s just not that important to me. My eye sight isn’t good enough to tell the difference anyway.
Can I give you an advice? Forget about CPUs, especially for anything above 1080p. I was thinking to upgrade my CPU now or in a year or so but watching all the related videos in the last few days, I will never replace my CPU (unless I see stutters in games, which I highly think it won't happen). I run ryzen 5 3600, 3070ti asus nvidia on 1440p.
Remember always, GPU runs the games, not CPU .
I play at 1440p and have a 3080. I just ordered a 5800x3d and it's out for delivery to me today, so I should have it installed and running in just a few hours. I am very excited because I know this will be an awesome experience. I keep up with reviews from this channel and others and I know I'm in for a treat.

After like 3 years of studying pc gaming, windows components etc, i can say im pretty good at it now,
i wished i was like this before i bought my new PC in 2019, i was so green... some parts were over expensive compared to others, could have been cheaper, CPU r5 3600 was fine, but i probably would have better put less money in case and other stuff a bit and bought rtx 2060 super with r5 3600, cause rx 5700 is great but the stability and in all others things it isn't great like in opengl or dx9, if i knew these things before i would have even bought better 1080 cause older gpus are better for older games i play...

I just got a 4070TI for 1440p but my CPU is a 5600. I've noticed in cyberpunk at RT ultra my frames drop particularly around the cherry blossom market to the low 50s. So I'm pondering getting the X3D.

i have a 5800x with a 4090. i was thinking of upgrading the mobo/cpu when the 7000x3d would come out but after playing with it for a while. since i tend to play 4k/ultra on a 144hz monitor. i havent found myself CPU limited at all under these circumstances and honestly dont feel the need to upgrade.
you would be wasting your money, the difference between the 7800x3d and 5800x3d for 2k and 4k gaming are useless, most yull see is 10-15fps on some games and anything above 120fps is almost unnoticeable.
I've skipped over the 3000 series and 6000 series gpus and 5000 series cpu's due to financing, it would be nice to see how well the new 3d v cache cpus will perform, especially with a 4090, as that's what I'm looking to get along with a 1440p, 240hz ips monitor, neat upgrade from a 2080ti and i9-9900k
Sounds exactly like what you should get. 1440p and 240hz Monitor will most likely need the 4090. (Or 4080). Expecting everything is on max settings.
A 4060/70 will limit you, as your monitor could do more. The CPU (5800x3d) is not the real limiter in your combination/setting. Will be a huge upgrade and your 1%lows and stuttering will mostly disappear thanks to the 3d cache. Go for it. Wish you best gaming 👍🤘

My personal answer was to move up to 4k. I have the 5800x3d paired with an FE 4090 and an LG C2, so I am limited to 120Hz/fps and it works fine.
Before the 4090 I was running a 5800x + FE 3080 at 344x1440 and that was fine too. Also it means I can wait a year before considering the next CPU maybe.
I suppose you don't miss what you don't have. Stop watching benchmarks and enjoy playing.
I have pretty much the exact setup - 5800X, 4K LG C2, but 7900XTX. Have you found the 1% lows improved over the 5800X after moving to the 5800X3D? Smoother game play experience?
@@chestercopperpot3793 Yes, totally. Also in MMOs and games like Cyberpunk where there are crowded areas I did get more FPS too.
When I went from a 3700x to the 5800x (this was with a 3080 and at 3440x1440) it was similar in that games were smoother rather than lots more FPS. The 4090 with this resolution as just CPU bound and the 5800x3d did help quite a bit more with that, and this is why I moved up to 4k as well. Bought a 4090 for £1700, then had to spend £1100 on the LG C2 and 5800x3d :) Not sure I how ended up here :)
owning a 5800x3d, ive personally found that the 3080ti or 6900/6800xt is right around the PERFECT balancing spot for performance and cost. that tier of cpu/gpu, really do mesh well. (my own usecase is 1440p / VR with mostly Indy/aa games, occasional AAA)

1 day ago I bought 5800x3d for my 4090. On 5700x even in 4k there are some stutters, on 120 hz tv. When I install x3d - gameplay become much smoother, usage of GPU increased. I hope use this setup about 5-7 years.

My current setup is a Ryzen 5 2600X with a Vega 64 and I'm planning to upgrade on a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, because it slots in on my current Motherboard and I'm mainly Playing Fortnite on 1440p low settings and I think I'm CPU bottlenecked, because I experience a lot of laag spikes in the late game... Will the upgrade be worth it without also upgrading my GPU? Because in the current GPU market nothing really looks very compelling to be honest... (in the value aspect) I don't have high hopes for next gen midrange cards; might upgrade to a 6700xt though if I find a good deal
I upgraded to a 3070 with my 2600 non x from a RX 570 and Sold IT again bc the gain was very underwhelming .... Not Worth the Money ... Upgraded then to a 5600 and 6700 AS a bundle with a Freesync ultimate 1440p 165hz Screen and really have a big boost ... In your Case IT might BE the Same Case that only one Part AS an Upgrade will BE underwhelming for the Money BC IT wont BE what you actually want ...

Give the vega 64 a blast with some compressed air too. If you don't clean it regularly, you'd be amazed how much dust can build up and reduce airflow.
I've a vega64 with a 5800x3d too, does OK for most stuff at 1440p. But was hoping for the next gen middle range cards to be coming out to be a bit more reasonable cost... I'll not hold my breath lol

I have a 4090 paired with 5800x3d. I'm very happy with the results. I'm either playing on a 4k 120hz Oled tv or on a Samsung g7 240hz 1440p monitor depending on what game I'm playing.
The question is if you had took 3080/3090 instead, would you have now approximately same FPS (4k ultra) or you feel the difference with 4090.
@sinisa5567 I was lucky enough to get a 3080 at launch, so I had two years with it before getting the 4090. I am getting significantly more performance out of the 4090 at higher quality settings. To achieve higher frame rates with the 3080, I had to dial down some settings, still good quality but with the 4090 I can max out settings and also get the sky high frame rates. Obviously if you do the math the 3080 is better value but that was not a factor for me in this situation.

I chose to grab a R5 5600 instead of a R7 5800X3D, that way I managed to squeeze a Sapphire RX 6900XT Toxic watercooled card which was at an insane discount in my budget. The alternative was RX 6750XT or 3060Ti w/ the R7.
For 1440p gaming the pairing works amazingly, will get the R7 later since its a cheaper upgrade than stepping up a GPU tier.

I play predominantly CSGO and rust on competitive / low settings, I had a prebuilt given to me a few years ago and it had an i3 9100f with a gtx 1650, my question is if I buy a 5800x3d and the motherboard for it how bad woupd that be on my gpu? I dont have enough money to also spend on a new gpu and another PSU (allready have ram and ssd since I upgraded the prebuilt)

I upgraded from a 5600G, in a MSI b450 a Pro max and a 6700XT to the 5800x3D. The 5600G is basically a 5500 and has 16MB L3 cache which is totally fine for most games. I changed to the 5800x3D cause I wanted to have a better performance in Star Citizen in 1440p and holy cow the game runs smooth now cause the 1% lows are a non issue now. Since I want to skip the newest generation and squeeze out AM4+ didnt wanna buy the CPU used I changed now and I think for 300 bucks its good investment for the next years to come. My system is fairly new (summer 2022) and I dont think about replacing everything just cause AM5 came out. Am4 is rocksolid and even pcie 4.0 advantages dont seem worth it. So I stick to my stuff, am safe for some years with the 5800x3D and when shit goes down I upgrade my GPU 😎
Knowing CIG, performance on even a 5800x3d will go to shit well before we even get Pyro or Squadron. I will give it a spin again when my 5800x3d arrives in a bit. Never had the game not feel somewhat janky and juddery, despite switching systems four times since they released the Hangar module.
I'm gonna replace my 3700X with a 5800X3D in a week or so - not so much for the maximum fps (with a 4080 & running a 3440x1440 UW) but mainly for the improved 1% lows.

@@OnlyonXBOXONE Fantastic! Bumped up the performance a ton compared to the 3700X. Maxing out my 180Hz monitor in many games.
If you already have an AM4 build it's an easy recommendation. Set up a -30 undervolt on all cores (it's easy) and you're set. The chip can run a bit hot without the undervolt tho depending on the airflow/cooling potential of your case. I have a fully Noctua'd out O11 XL and the CPU is idling at 35C and goes up to about 67-69C on full load.
I build my PC with 4k 120FPS in mind, since I use a 4k 120hz OLED as a monitor. The PC has a 5800X3D and a 4090. Since i play with a 120FPS limit, i am not bottlenecked by both CPU and GPU in most games. In demanding games like CP 2077 with RT, it is still the GPU that limits.
Powercost here in Germany is high with 30-40cent per kWh, so i also use the PC with that in mind, undervolting GPU and CPU, so the whole PC uses less then 400W.

I have a 6700xt working with 5800x3d, the GPU is always fully loaded and CPU is about 70+% usage when playing BF2042 at 1080p high settings with 150+FPS(64 player mode), enough for my budget 1080p 144hz monitor.
You would have gotten the same results from a 5600x that is half the price of the x3d. My old system was a 5600x with 6700xt and every game I played was 99% GPU usage and processor usage was around 40-50%
@@rahorin I got gpu usage drop on a 5600 / 6500XT combo... Plus it's not all about average but 1% & 0.1% low. Which X3D cpu did help a lot on FFXIV in raids , ACC full grid, and CP77 on 5 star rampage. As a few experienced exemple.
There is nothing on the market that doesn’t bottleneck the 4090.
Even tuned 13900KS to 6.0GHZ will in more cpu heavy titles like Warzone.
Maybe 7950x3D will finally tame the beast 😁

Running my 5800x3d with a factory OC'd 6800 and 32 gig of fast memory...really happy with my setup. I have an in game FPS cap set to 144 in COD MW2 so the gpu stays cool and the game pretty much sits at 144fps all the time with high quality settings at 1080p.

Hi, what sort of games do you play with this setup? I tend to play Warzone and COD MP. I have a 5600X and a 7900XT and feel that the CPU is a right bottleneck at the moment and I was thinking about going for the 5800X3D as I don't really want to shift to the 7000 series CPUs. Do you feel 5800X3D is the sweet spot with the GPU?
@Fraser-B I think the 5800x3d is a great CPU and the best you can get on the AM4 motherboards. I believe it has an uplift of 15% performance gain in FPS compared to the 5800x with an average of 40% performance gains in one percent lows. All around, it should be a better CPU than the 5600x, including in productively, so there's really not a reason not to get one if you can spare the money, especially if you don't want to upgrade your motherboard yet.
I went from 5700g to 5800x3d, so my gains were huge, but I imagine it would be a decent jump in performance compared to the 5600x as well. Honestly, even if you did go with AM5 or a new intel, you'd have to get at least a 7700x or i7 13th gen to beat the 5800x3d. If you were going to go that route, then you'd probably just get a 7800x3d anyways.

I have a 5800X3D paired with a 7900 XT with 32 GB of RAM (3600MHz). I have a ASUS ROG Strix LC II 240 AIO cooling the CPU and running @ 1440p and the temps for the CPU stay in the low the mid 40c (once in a while may hit 50, but it drops back down).

I’m using a 5600 x paired with a 6700 XT and it’s fantastic together. I play Skyrim with over 600 mods including ENB, ReShade and Parallax on ultra high settings at 1440p. Monitor is LG UltraGear 32” with 165Hz refresh rate. Not overclocked or undervolted. Even have some videos showing game play and flyovers of the up dated mod list so you can see for yourself. I plan on upgrading to 5800X3D in the future but haven’t encountered bottlenecks yet.
Today i went from my 5600x to the 5800x3d.
Warzone 2 on mid/high settibg from 108 FPS to 120 FPS.
And on Hunt Showdown from 80-144 FPS to 135-170 FPS in WQHD.
The 5600x makes a great Job and i think the upgrade was Not nessecary. But i dont regret my decision.

@@thrasher6752 that’s what I’ve been reading, it does offer improvement but is the amount of improvement worthy of another price cost. Right now it’s not much an option and honestly I only play three games and so far I’ve encountered no real issues so I’ll run what I brung till I can’t lol.

I have a RTX 4090 with 5800X3D mostly play ACC in VR with a Reverb G2 absolutely brilliant locked solid at 90FPS in the headset something my 3080 to couldn't manage.
I have exactly that setup, but am getting nothing like that performance. 😕 What type of motherboard do you have? That’s the only thing I can think of that might make a difference by upgrading. I have followed the ‘settings’ advice, it improved it a bit, but quite honestly, my old 3070 seemed better than this! 🤔

@@stephenmckinnell7791 Motherboard is a MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi, not that I believe that will be making alot of difference. I can't understand why you'd be getting worse results than the 3070, I know MFSF is a massive stress on the system but every test I've seen with the 4090 on MFSF showed big gains. I'd be going through your system in fine detail make sure your ram is set to XMP, on that I have 32GB of system ram at 3600mhz.

The motherboard I have is around 3 years old so I thought a more modern one might make some sort of improvement. Updating bios seemed to solve a big G2 issue some time ago, I got a professional to do that at the time. The RAM I have is exactly what you said, but I don’t know about XMP, I’ll have to investigate. 👍

I have a 5800x3d paired with a 7900 xt and get about 150 fps in Cyberpunk @ 1440p 21:9 with RT turned off and FSR set to auto. I turned FSR to ultimate and get 80-90 fps. I am happy with the results. With RT on I get 50-60 fps. I think I will skip the 7k series processors and wait 2 years for the next 3d chips.
What about Fortnite at 1080p?
I have the R7 5800X3D undervolted on a ASUS CROSSHAIR DARK HERO. I paired it with an RTX 4080 (founders edition) and it's working like a charm. I play on 1440p and i can feel a HUGE difference between my current setup and the older one (R5 5600X+3070). I have a Lenovo Legion 240hz 0.5ms screen with G-Sync module and it's absolutely stunning.

The fps will grow enormously 🔥 I was thinking about a 7900XTX but went instead with 4080 just for the averall reliability and also the gysnc monitor that I had.. A friend of mine got the 7900XT and get RMA after 1 week because it was hitting 113 C on hotspot.. The second one they shipped to him had a dead fan on arrival... He switched to 4080.. It seems like they are solving those problems, but anyway good luck 🤞🍀

Nailed it. I paired an RTX 4090 with a 5800X3D slotted into my old X470F motherboard with PCI-E 3.0 (The Horror!). Paired to an LG C2 at 120HZ 4K Ultra Settings, the gaming experience is fantastic. Are there some fps on the table? Probably. Would it make a difference to the experience? No it wouldn't. I'm really not sure what the deal is with all this obsession over several hundred fps at low resolution.
It's all the e-sports gamers who go crazy over that stuff. These are people who genuinely believe that getting 300 FPS in Apex Legends or 600 FPS in Overwatch 2 will improve their kill to death ratio. It's all foolishness.
@@selohcin I'm not amazing, but even when gaming at 60 fps I take a lot of people down because I am relying on planning and strategy to win over a muscle twitch. Some people can do both, but PvP decided in milliseconds means your planning from 3, 5, or 30 seconds ago was poor
Its mostly a matter of input delay. What i mean is same ping & same reflexes guy A on 400fps will ALWAYS kill first same ping & same reflexes guy B on 120fps. EVERY SINGLE TIME. All inputs get cut to almost 30% faster on ever shooting multiplayer game > the MORE fps and the lower resolution the less system latency therefore the more consistency on who kills who.
all this guy has to say is what gpu is good for the high settings and which gpu is good for the low settings it isnt a hard question at all but he still decides to over complicate things to the point where you still have no idea what gpu will be good for the 5800x3D
Hey, you said that Ryzen 7 5500 doesn't make sense and 5600 is better. But considering power consumption is it really better? I think there's more to the story than just PCIE 4.0, compute power and cache. I feel like it could be a good pick for those looking for power efficient CPU. And if it's not better, what other AM4 CPU would you recommend (5600 doesn't seem to be as efficient for office type work)?
AMD CPU already best in power effiency, you can simply undervolt to maintain your CPU usage.
Will getting rx 6700 okay to pair with ryzen 5800x3d? Playing primarily Total War on 1080p? Plannning to replace my ryzen 2600 and rx 590.
Monitor refresh target should be a big consideration in choosing CPU as well.

1070 with r7 3700X gonna pair it with Rx 6800 non XT, I think it's the max CPU for the CPU
I upgraded my 3700x to 5700x so I could use the prism cooler. Huge boost in 1% and .01% fps for my 6800xt. Feels much smoother and more fluid

I am stuck waiting on the x3d cpus coming out. until then i have a i5 8400 and just dropped a 7900xtx in it.. ugh.. its okay but waiting to decide on mobo and cpu.
I have my 5800x 3D with a 3080ti Fe and I play single player games in 4k. Many of the games are 80 to 120 fps but if I apply RT game are 60 to 80 FPS.
For me, high FPS is nice but consistency, how smooth and responsive it plays is more important. One thing that the 5800X3D has in spades is how smooth it keeps my games, that extra cache eliminates those tiny hitches that I had prior to using it.

I'm using the 4090 on 4k 144hz and my GPU usage is constant 100%, though i believe the Zen4X3D might be the best option, specially for 0.1 lows and weird optimized games like spiderman.
the 3D is best for open world massive multiplayer, where memory access optimization is not possible, or games with a lot of small computations over a big dataset, so cache rules. Or simply for unoptimized games
This is an interesting discussion. I recently upgraded from a 2700x to the 5800X3D. I have a 3080TI (all I could find at the time) but would like to go 4090. I am playing in 4K but not really competitively. I figured the X3D would serve me well for many years. Should I have gone a different direction?
No, 5800x3d would be the most rational and cost effective upgrade. I "upgraded" from 5700X to Intel 13700K but there is no improvement of FPS at 4K.
Techpowerup made an article comparing the i9-13900k to the R7 5800X3D in 53 games with the RTX 4090.
The i9 is on averg. 1.3% faster in 4K, so you aren't missing that much.
I recently got a 5800X3D and at the moment it's paired with my old RTX2070. I will upgrade the GPU when the upgrade path is more reasonably priced. At the moment, it plays all my games just fine. I play BF5, BF2042, MS Flight Simulator and a plethora of other stuff at 1440p, on a 165hz monitor, no problems.
Hey Keith, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and 2070 Super, do you think the 5800X3D will be a big upgrade for me right now? Then wait for a GPU upgrade in 18-24 months and still use the 5800X3D?
Running mine with a 4080, huge upgrade over the 5800x. No bottlenecks at 4K or even 4K with quality DLSS.
1440p runs great the vast majority of the time too

Something will always be the bottleneck. Chances are the refresh will be lower than what a 5800X3D can provide.
This is a brutally understated point: It doesn't matter how many frames you get, your experience is going to be significantly inferior to most 144Hz setups as long as you have a 60Hz monitor.
Having moved to a 144Hz monitor several years ago and then to 240Hz last year, I don't recommend 240Hz all that much but the difference between 144Hz and 60Hz is *easily* as big as the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS, and I could even argue that the difference is almost greater in competitive FPS games. Even using the desktop on 60Hz is painful once you get used to a high refresh rate monitor, the difference *really* feels as big as the one between 30FPS and 60FPS, although that is impossible to imagine if you've never used a high refresh rate monitor.
In competitive shooters, I feel that I have to rely on outplaying my opponents on both 30FPS and 60FPS - If I can kill them with one, I could probably kill them with the other because I probably didn't rely on my aim. This all changes when moving to 144Hz where you will never be bottlenecked by your display. 240Hz, in my experience, is only slightly better despite having so many more frames.
