for the running oil in the gas myth, TPI stands for Transfer Port Injection which means it injects the fuel right before the air enters the cylinder. Running oil in the gas literally only lubricates the cylinder wall, it never even touches the the crank or rod bearings so it is a huge waste of time and can actually cause injector issues because they aren't designed to run oil through them.
Excellent video neighbor! I added another horse 🐴 to my stable in February. A 21’ 250XC. It, along with my 19’ xcw have NEVER had a problem. They both run fantastic. I’m convinced those few people with problems have messed and tinkered with the fuel system: ie adding oil to the fuel, air screw too far out, etc. Some people can’t just start their bikes and ride them. They feel they must monkey 🐒 with things that don’t need touching. I love TPI and the thought of playing with a carb, makes me wanna 🤮
Kyle.... just a comment not related to the TPI you discuss here. I believe you need to cover 1 significant aspect of riding which I have found to be critical to the sports safety, enjoyment, longevity and cost: it's the company you regularly ride with. Riding mates have helped me no end in numerous ways from making sure I got home safe after a crash to saving me from making bad decisions on purchasing, on riding on the trail and maintenance. I do like 15 hours in a single weekend. You ride all day when you ride not just a run around the block. I don’t get how people use there bikes so little but spend so much for them 😂
Great video Kyle! Lots of myths busted with this one, met a guy a year ago who had a 2020 150 xc-w tpi who had problems with it early on and he believed several myths you mentioned
For five years now tpi models, but why are ktm 2-stroke motocross models still on the carburetor? Power? Reliability? Can anyone tell if these tpi are so excellent ..
Enjoy the channel and reviews, you are spot on with the myth busting, pulled my top end at 140 hrs piston looked good but rings were stuck on one side from carbon build up. I did adjust my power valve and enjoy the lower rpm power boost, great for my area tight woods single track N.W Wa. forest. 2018 300 WCW, Lectron carb, RK tech head, 16 oz clutch weight, Kreft suspension, Dunlop AT81EX rear tire. Keep those great reviews and tests coming
I've got a 2021 300xc-w tpi. Love it right out of the crate. I've been riding and racing for 48yrs. Hands down best bike I've ever owned. I've got about 25hrs on it now. Good video by the way.

Hi Kyle, I was wondering what bike to buy to start out on for trail riding, I’m 14 years old, 5 10, and 140 pounds. My friend has a Honda CRF250F and loves it, I rode it and it felt great, but I was flat footed on it with my knees bent. Any suggestions?
Either the Husqvarna TE250/300i or KTM 250/300 XC-W are the best bikes out there for trails and enduro or general recreational riding. My sons friend who is 14 and a little shorter than you rides a CRF250F and hates it. He gets on my sons TE250i and just loves it. He also rode my TE300i and his dads 300 XC-W and is saving his money to get a TPI 2 stroke. The 250F is a generic trail bike that excels at nothing. After 30 minutes of riding you will out grow it and be bored out of your mind. Take the time to ride the 2 stoke slow and easy and learn how it reacts and feels. Work your way into it’s capabilities. It is a high performance dirt bike but can easily be ridden at every level.
My 2020 blew up at 53 hours, just sayin! My theory, the oil pump didn’t like the cold weather (28 degrees) and it wasn’t equipped to pull the thicker oil at such temp. Yes, I used good oil 😉
You are not alone. We have had several seize prematurely in cold weather operation. The oil tank is not temperature controlled, and the recommended oil is thicker than snowmobile oil.
The fact that you said "good oil" and not "recommended oil" tells us all we need to know. You used what you thought was good, not what the engineers thought was good.
I may be looking for a ktm exc 300 2018. This is fuel injecten. Does these points also count for the 2018 the first tpi 300 from ktm? Because it is the oldest of the bunch.
I love the idea of TPI on these bikes, however it would of been nice to see you actually bust these myths on camera, rather then just tell us your opinions based of what you’ve seen. Some dyno time would be nice 👍
Good question. I guess the only sign would be realizing quickly that your bike is running lean and shut er down. Great competition bikes but too many electronics to fail for my liking. I ride solo a lot and I'm not calling AAA for a tow 5 miles out into the rugged wilderness and I'd hate to leave a $12,000 bike out there while I walk home.
you mentioned that these bikes don't need an aftermarket ecu to run well, and that if they run craps its due to something else. i've read through countless forums with people experiencing the same issue as me...a random flat spot/bog in the mid range. seems to a very common complaint among tpi owners. like the bike is suddenly starved of fuel. one guy had tried all the common things, fuel filters, sensors ect, had been in talks with KTM and his dealer, and even took his dealer to the track so he could ride the bike himself and experience the issue first hand. after being told by KTM that is was just a "characteristic of the bike" he bought a Get ignition system and it cured the problem instantly. you also put a Get ecu on your 300 a couple of years ago after it ran like crap.
This video made me feel like there is a ton of stuff I don't know or didn't grow up with understanding. I think I'll stick to the carb models for now. Riding a 2016 husky. I think I'll upgrade to a 2018 or 2019 bike and look for a carb model.
Don’t bother with a carb. The TPIs are flawless when treated properly. They’re not as complicated as people make out. 95% of people just jump on and ride! All mine needed was idle screw mod (easy), air bypass screw adjustment (easy) and played around with the power valve screw (same as a carb bike) and it’s amazing!
@@DirtBikeChannel 100% agreed. I have owned countless bikes. My 2021 TE300i Husky was immediately my favorite bike I have ever owned and continues to be. Idle screw, tiny tweak on the power valve and it's a mountain goat.

Hey Kyle so I know you have already done a review on the ktm150xcw back in 2017 but I was wondering if you could do another review of it but compare that new 150 to the new te 150?
They seem like great bikes. Cant wait to have my quad sold to hopefully afford a new 300 xc-w. Last bike I had was a 14 rmz250 and the last 2 smoker I had was an 86 trx250r.
I added a jd jetting power surge 6 which is an inexpensive way to add (or reduce) fuel at certain throttle positions. 2020 tx300. I do consider it worth it. Wanted more fuel to air to protect the motor a bit. I like the performance add as well, which for me is even more stall proof. Love the bike tho. Great piece by the way.

I’m getting back into trail riding after 30 years , YIKES . Wondering if you have ever ridden a SWM rs 300r ? There’s a dealer close to me and the bike looks pretty nice .
i did about 230hrs hard shitty riding on my '18 tpi 250 before doing the piston, it still looked fine and only the rings were a bit worn. i did the oil pump at 250 because it failed and was 'leaking' when not being ridden and then fouling the plug on startup. have had other tpi owners in my circle that have had to replace the pump at 10-50hrs because of the same issue
thanks mate another awesome vid . im still on my 2011 ktm 250exc , and enjoy it runs perfect for me . keen to see the 2022 models . cheers steve/Australia
Pro tip. Don’t buy throttle cams from KTM unless you have a four stroke. They will sell you a set of 3 cams..1 cam for the 2t and 2 cams for the 4t. The 2t can is identical to what comes on your bike.... change the grips and throttle tube to a different brand if you want to shorten the throttle throw.
Not true about the ecu, Kyle. My bike did run like absolute crap until I got the ecu reflashed by tsp. Sure, a majority of them run fine, but not all of them.
Support from Croatia. Love your channel very much. My 6 year old son is in motocross but hell man you are seriusly forcing me to get myself a bike and go to the wild.
Can we have ten issue facts about those bikes too. Was there a tpi ktm that drove the bike backwards when in 1 gear 😄 or was that a 300 carbed version. Reverse gear ?
My 23 250 rips like a freight train, I have zero concerns about what ktm has done, I'll rebuild it at 500 hours and if it blows up before that then whatever so be it, awesome bikes
You can on an XC, but not on an XC-W. The XC-W requires a capacitor wired to your battery. I own an XC and an XC-W, I have a capacitor on my W. They’re fairly inexpensive, you can get one online. Cheers!😁
I agree, love my 2020 300 XCW TPI.. AND,,,,,, my 2 stroke snowmobiles have been fuel injected for decades and never had much trouble with those either.. ride what you like.....
I'm old, like I've been riding over fifty years. I grew up on two strokes. I still have a 2000 WR200, which I still ride occasionally and love/hate lol. It never feels the same one day to the next, even to the point of one morning to the arvo. Are the new TPI's more consistent in their behaviour. I've been off dirties for a few years bar the odd run on the WR. I'm totally over riding on the road, here in Aus it's gotten crazy with the law and cameras. Even most track days are a shit fight now. So I've been thinking about a new dirty. I still love the two strokes and would be going that path on a new bike. The Husky 300 is winning so far. I keep thinking about the 350 and telling myself to go with my head and get the 350 4 banger. But my heart says I'll always regret not going the 300 TPI. Thoughts ?
I never had a fuel injected dirt bike , but that wouldn't stop me from getting one. The lack of funds puts me in my place every time. Funny that a these myths are out there, its probably people like me with no money starting them.
gonna be a game changer when KTM and the other brands slap on e-start and tpi for the motocross versions. 85 with tpi pulling away from a race built 250?

@@DirtBikeChannel thank you, I will check that out

I’m getting back into trail riding after 30 years , YIKES . Wondering if you have ever ridden a SWM rs 300r ? There’s a dealer close to me and the bike looks pretty nice .
Great video man and shoot for the stars. Can wait for the give aways.
Thank you.
I strictly rode 4 strokes since i started 4 years ago. I bought a 250 tpi 4 days ago. Never riding a 4 stroke again!
Ha! Same boat. Never going back to 4 strokes EVER. We have a TE 300i and the 250. They are phenomenal bikes. Top of the food chain!
i did about 230hrs hard shitty riding on my '18 tpi 250 before doing the piston, it still looked fine and only the rings were a bit worn. i did the oil pump at 250 because it failed and was 'leaking' when not being ridden and then fouling the plug on startup. have had other tpi owners in my circle that have had to replace the pump at 10-50hrs because of the same issue
if i buy anything from your store am i automatically entered into the drawing for one of the three bikes?
thanks mate another awesome vid . im still on my 2011 ktm 250exc , and enjoy it runs perfect for me . keen to see the 2022 models . cheers steve/Australia
Cool content man!
💯 agreed great job Kyle! Thank you
Thanks for this video!
Can you bump start these tpi bikes? Might be a dumb question but thought I heard that you couldn’t awhile back.
You can on an XC, but not on an XC-W. The XC-W requires a capacitor wired to your battery. I own an XC and an XC-W, I have a capacitor on my W. They’re fairly inexpensive, you can get one online. Cheers!😁
Tokyo Off-road makes them available ...
Yes, you can bump start any of them. If the battery is totally dead, and your bike doesn't have a capacitor, you need to install that.
Thoughts ?
New here just to confirm for 2stroke can use engine break when downhill.tnx
I never had a fuel injected dirt bike , but that wouldn't stop me from getting one. The lack of funds puts me in my place every time. Funny that a these myths are out there, its probably people like me with no money starting them.
gonna be a game changer when KTM and the other brands slap on e-start and tpi for the motocross versions. 85 with tpi pulling away from a race built 250?
Kyle you the man. Thanks for this
Anyone have a crappy running 2019 tpi because of ECU and installed a ktm 2020/2021 ECU into the 2019?
My 17 carb Xcw beats my 21 300tx all day. But they are both great bikes. One day when the governments are overthrow I’ll come ride with you Kyle and show you worldly rider is the best, I’m just not a corporate sellout.
Hello all! Does anyone run 100LL AV gas in their bike? I have access to this for a cheap price so I was curious if there was any benefit.
Just curious I’m not a ktm guy but what does tpi stand for
Transfer Port Injection. The injector resides in the transfer Port.
I start my 2021 ktm 300 cc tpi by accident all the time go to push the bike hand hits starter button it starts right up
I bought my first dirt bike last year (2020 yz250fx) was looking through the manual and said replace the piston at 12hours. Got nervous I messed up buying this bike and did some research on some forums.. Nope dont change the piston at 12 hours
Excellent video
