- Eventually managed to get out for Solo Wildcamp back up to one of my favourite haunts "Christianbury Crags" , it was a windy hike up to the summit and so very cold again . Let's hope spring is just around the corner .

Just really appreciated your leave no trace messaging. I am now at the point when I see on an established UK channel cutting down branches, building fires, and loose with trash, I nolonger follow them. There are so many people chasing so very little wild country. Good work and good luck with the channel.

Was curious if you ever tried an ice fishing shanty tent?
Over on my end, you can get a decent quality one that runs a bit over 200.00$ USD ( sorry, not sure what a quid equivalent might be.)
You can find some that are insulated to a point & with stove jacks so, if you have a portable wood stove, put it indoors & keep warm providing you have a source of timber to keep things going
@@eventsotherthingswithchris9019 Something I havent tried , to be fair we have more rain than ice in my neck of the woods .However we do have plenty of firewood for keeping warm.
Another cracking camp mate, really well filmed , sick of the wind at the moment, can't escape it, signs the weather is getting better though, looked freezing in the morning there but beautiful and frosty, especially in the woodland with the birdsong, it's a lovely area that, your lucky to have it all close by, all the best 👍🏕️

I would have loved to have camped in that wood at the end of your video when it was still. I think we could do with some better weather now. Absolutely true regarding the silence the snow acts as muffler , and yes I bet you were warmer let’s hope it does warm up soon. Surprised they haven’t fenced the whole place off then lol

Christianbury Crags. The secret is out, the climbing community has been informed and they routes will be sent. Good job it's abit of a walkin which will keep the posers away.
It’s a good 4 mile with only a few crags to climb but I think it’s been done in the past . I remember coming across a fall pad once atb Dave

My 1st time watching as of 3/14/2020 & Spring sort of made it over here ( Western Massachusetts) where we've gotten up to about 60 degrees Fahrenheit but not usually more than maybe 50-53.
Looked a bit nippy there Dave, but I think you made the right decision to give the Lakes a miss, it’s more Norfolk Broads here at the moment! Lol!A lot of flooding and water lying everywhere. Loved the intro and walk in, yep, Spring has sprung as they say! 👍👍👍

"That's about as much snow as I'll get today". Famous last words, haha! Enjoyed that. Fascinating geology there. Heck of a wind that night, a peaceful morning though. Funny story. I remember as a kid I had a folklore book that had a section about the border folklore up there in the UK, and read about the redcap goblins who stained their hats with the blood of their victims. Scared me for years, even though I'm on the other end of the world!

Love the area & some of the streams look like if somebody could drop in a small hydroelectric thing without mucking anything else up, some possibly free power

The Akto is all you need for the vast majority of camps, winter and munro summit camps. Good to get out only been out in January for a carcamp, fantastic area though. Newcastle fells probably overlooked area so I would be going for quick overnighters. Stuck at work for 2 months so been watching others winter trips. Yes Andrew snow video good TBH I take those conditions as quite common in the highlands/Cairngorms so guess I spoiled. ATB
Cheers Eddie I thought you had been quiet but to be fair a lot of folk have not been out with all this crappy weather we have had . Yeah always feel safe in the Akto a solid tent and does what its supposed too.

What's the British penchant with pitching a tent on the highest ground available?
I don’t always pitch high up lol , my last camp was a woodland one by a stream . But yeah the high up camping I have no idea why but to be fair this is only 500metres high ⛺️👍🏻 TFW atb Dave

I’ve been on Christianbury crags twice, an aborted overnighter & one day walk and i shared the same experience....WIND 🙄😳 does it ever stop blowing up there? I know exactly where you’re coming from 👍🏻😂🤣 great film mate keep ‘em coming🤘🏻
Amazingly I have been there in beautiful calm conditions but yeah normally it’s howling with wind .this was especially cold at 0c the windchill must have been about -5 ❄️ . It is an unforgiving land TFW atb Dave ⛺️👍🏻

@@BorderRambler Hi Dave im back again... i have been researching those UGQ quilts as i love the idea of opening it out to a complete quilt i could take with me for all sorts of use... God it looks complicated ordering one and so many questions i could ask you on yours... The part underneath going from knee level up to neck level does not fasten closed.. Do you find heat escapes here?? I know yours is a -12 which sounds great.... i on the other hand am considering the -18 incase i ever venture off somewhere REALLY REALLY COLD.... Hope the -18 wont be overkill in terms of weight and pack size... Im researching so much because i want something i can totally rely on for years to come, (for COLD WEATHER only) and not end up having to buy yet another sleeping bag if the UGQ is not sufficient... And could i ask what foot box you chose... i would like the the footbox which opens up completely for the option of making a complete flat quilt

Why are you putting up your tent out in the open in a storm, when you could have done it in shelter of the trees? Sorry dont realy get it. But nice video,- I love you gear.
It wasn’t really a storm just windy and for that reason I kept out of the forest incase of fallen branches on to me , and no where really flat in that area . But thanks for watching and commenting atb Dave

Yes I put my mat and bag into my Alpkit bivvy for an extra layer . Atb Dave
