- I eventually managed to get out for my first wildcamp of the year , I headed up to Bowscale and on to the Northern fells. Bowscale summit turned out to be a no go zone due to the high winds and frozen ground !
So I headed down towards Raven Crags and managed to find a pitch for the night before darkness fell.
Apologies for the sound quality on the summits but the weather was boss up there in the wind !
PS this not the Langdales Raven Crag but the Mungrisedale one.....

Nice one Dave, sod camping in those winds. You relax a bit once you've found somewhere a bit more sheltered.

What a great opening shot! Route one looked dam steep and a lung burner indeed, you made the right call on not trying to camp on the tops, looked rough, although very scenic. I think that snow followed you down off the tops although you cannot complain with a view like that in he morning, the sunrise was amazing, cheers Alan
Thanks Alan , it was the quickest route up lol and it was great too see the conditions on the summits, but a no go zone regards to camping . I dropped lucky finding that little spot out of the wind and yeah the sunrise was pretty nice to watch . TFW atb Dave

Good timing Dave you & Steve releasing vids today Jan 28'th..good tent time TH-cam watching as I'm currently up kinder tent bound in the midst of a snow storm lol..great place up there shame it was so wild,we camped it 18 month sin & it turned wild then.those goggles are a life saver when the wind & hail are in you're face aren't they.looked a grand morning with that bit of colour in the clouds like to see those moody mornings sometimes rather than the clear sky's it gives a focus.anyway mate glad tha over lurgy & good to get out tfs Andy.

Nice one Dave you did well to find a sheltered spot there looked awful on the top worse than when I was there last week. Nice tent the Akto fancy one but I already have three tents and two tarps! Happy Trails.
Cheers Mick, I was getting a bit concerned on being able to find somewhere but alas a spot appeared lol . The akto is great for the rougher weather camps but you cant have enough shelters lol TFW atb Dave.

Just had a sprinkling of snow here on Dartmoor, having to wait til the weekend b4 I can get out on them, hoping it stays, but its gonna be hilleberg tents Im taking, bombproof...ATB WJ
Thanks Jay , it was really windy on the top I just use the foam cover for the GoPro these days it does a grand job I think , it was wild at 2200 ft but blencathra at 3000 looked even wilder lol . I hope the snow stays for your camp and you will always be safe in a hilly atb Dave
No word of a lie right, I recovered from a chest infection last November and I checked that exact spot out as it's right next to mungrisedale for a easy quick overnighter. Crazy haha. 😂 Superb shots like 👍
It’s a handy little spot and away from the worst of the weather ⛺️👍

Really Enjoyed the video Dave. If it weren't for the wind you would have had some glorious weather on that first day. Nice clouds. I bet you feel pretty comfy sleeping in that Hilleberg tent. That will withstand most winds.

Sensible head on there marra in those conditions....they looked really wild on those tops..unforgiving .good shots of the snow blowing about though ...Like the new ski mask...but where are the skiis?😂..would have been a bond moment sliding down the fell. 😂At least you managed to pick a spot which was reasonable and flat.. I was saying brrr watching it lol but in end it was a highly productive camp.atb Mark.
Cheers Marra , it was bloody wild on those tops and the ground was rock hard so had no options but head down and luckily found a lal spot off to the side. Thats a close to skiing I will ever get lol . I passed a runner going up as I was coming down !!! It was deffo a brrr moment lol TFW Dave
Great pitch and wise move not staying on the top. As Andy says, walking poles would help that nasty descent !

Night shift urgh I have a few weeks before my next nighshift, It was mental up on the summits so no option really but to drop down out of the wind . Sometimes comments are held in the review section in YT studio , no worries TFW atb Dave 👍🏻

Great camp, what a beautiful area.
We had snow on the tors today supposed to be up there this weekend it'll be rain by then no doubt. Just packed my 2 man tent, now considering the Atko, decisions, decisions
Youv'e sussed my green screen out lol , I think quite a bit of the country has had a sprinkling but yeah for you it will be rain ... What is the wind forecast that would decide which tent I took atb Dave

That wind looked a bit brutal on the summit Dave, glad you found a pitch in the end. I’ve camped at Bowscale Tarn many years ago, there’s some good flat spots there, look forward to the next one. Anthony 👍👍👍

Nice one! Looks like you found a good spot in the end. Thing is in the wind even if your tent stays up it’s not very relaxing.

Aye looked gnarly on the top I’ve been up there a few times. Always flipping gales. Ripped my nallo at the tarn. Mebbes best avoided 😂 ever considered poles? Not sure if you use them. I was sceptical but they’re great for tricky descents like. You did well to get out the wind kind of. And like you said at least you’re “back out” that’s copyrighted btw 😂. Look forward to the next yan mate. Atb.
Cheers Andy , you will know what it’s like then as it’s so exposed . In the summer it’s fine . I had 2 poles in the bag I got them out eventually for that last section ❄️ it’s only copyrighted if you say it like you do lol . I was just glad to be out and in the fresh air TFW atb Dave 👍🏻
Smashing vid that Dave, always great to watch however I can appreciate the difficulty of the weather. It's lovely up there but it doesn't half get the strong winds mind, when I camped up on bowscale fell one of the lads i was with had to bail through the night as his tent pole snapped. Thanks for sharing and hopefully better conditions to come. ATB Steve
