    I have a Nexus 6 and it is running android 6.01. I love the phone and is a great value for the price. I do like the size and performance of the phone. I think this phone will be a player for several years to come in the smart phone market. Thank you for the great review.

    Thanks for making your review videos so simple and straight to the point, this really helped me. I had a Droid X2 for 4+ years (I LOVED that phone--was my first smartphone, had everything I needed, died after I threw it against a concrete wall, strung out from a long night at work, but still, it was easily the most durable phone I'll ever own. They don't make 'em like they used to) so I decided to upgrade from the year 2010 to 2015. I was contemplating either the Note 4 or the Nexus 6, and I chose the Nexus 6. There's no going back, I love it.

    I had the 32G T-Mobile Midnite Blue for 7 months also and I truly can say this phone appears to improve over time. Even the camera after the lates Stock Camara App update is like having a completely different phone. Taking photos faster and better looking. Yes this is worth the buy especially since the price is 150 dollar less than it was first released. I'm planing to buy a second and maybe a third Nexus 6 so my hole family has these beauty made beast of a phone.

    Hey Matt, I'm a new subscriber and I'm glad I did. Most reviews I find are great but I do want to know how the phone has aged like 6 months later as by that time its like old tech and ppl are on to something better. Great video!

    So far I love my Nexus 6, the big size is taking some getting used to but I definitely enjoy it. I'm glad you recommended to not use it with one hand, I'll have to keep that in mind constantly. I have noticed that the physical screen (or the mechanics behind the screen) itself makes noises every now and then. In addition, I've also experienced the speakers would go in and out of being really high and really soft although it was at full volume. But overall I would get this phone over an iPhone or Galaxy any day. Thanks for the great video, Matthew!

    I just got it 2 weeks ago and I love how intuitive it is. I learn new things daily on what it can do including speed for access to my Tesla Model S. I ordered on Amazon the wallet for it so I carry credit cards, cash and drivers license all in one package while giving it protection.

    Picked up a Nexus 6 as a Christmas present for myself during the holidays. After using the Moto X Pure for a few months prior, the Nexus 6 is my current daily driver. Both are very nice phones, though there are certainly some discernible differences. My biggest gripe, and why I will likely switch back to the X Pure, is with the ambient display on the Nexus 6. It's too erratic and unpredictable. Sometimes the display won't trigger at all when I pick up the phone. Moto display on the X Pure however, is rock solid consistent. Just a slight nudge of the phone, and Moto display does it's thing. It would be nice if ambient display could be made a little more reliable via a software update.

    I just got my Nexus 6 ... Literally right now! I have an iPhone 6+ that I use as my daily driver but I wanted the Android Experience. I had a Note 4 but I honestly hated touch wiz and it's buggy antics so with the nice $150 price drop I decided to give the Nexus 6 a try. I will be popping my SIM card in and out of both phones and using the one I want for that day just like I was doing with my Note 4 and iPhone 6+. So far I love the Nexus 6 size and feel. What's really bothering me is how exaggerated people are with the size! It's not that big. It's the exact same size as the iPhone 6+ and a tad bigger than the Note 4 but not by much. Let's see how the Nexus 6 treats me. Thanks for the review, it helped with my decision to make the purchase.

      Alfonso Uribe I've been using the Nexus 6 again with Android M and starting to get used to the size as well. I'm glad the review helped and that you're enjoying the phone! It's a great device overall, just wish the battery was a tad better! Thanks for watching !

    HI, Matthew
    I purchased my Nexus 6 (64gb, midnight blue) on December 20, 2014. Since then it has been my daily driver for about 5 months. As you mentioned the phablet is an awesome piece of technology. It's massive display, high resolution, stock Android features (of Android L) are the ones that attracted me when compared to other Nexus releases.
    Yes, the Nexus gets very hot when at full brightness or while using apps like camcorder, playing video files about an hour or so. Even while browsing internet with songs playing in background (multi tasking). The battery too drains fast. I hardly get through the day with full charge in the morning.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems a lot of people are having poor battery life with the Nexus 6. When instead it should be getting amazing battery life due to the size of the battery. It's most likely due to the QHD screen Motorola used.

    • @muralikrishnaa
      @muralikrishnaa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think Google can fix this with the upcoming software update, Android M, late this year???

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery life has already improved with android 5.1 on the nexus 6 and Google seems pretty dedicated to providing better battery life in general through software optimization. And I'm sure android M will continue that trend.

    I'm actually new to the android platform as a whole because I still was using a somewhat ancient iPhone 3GS. Needless to say I was happy with the display and the functionality all around, I spent a lot to time with the iPhone 6+ and after using Apple hardware for 10 years I needed a break. I'm a big guy with big hands so this phone feels right at home for me handling wise, the customization and relative flow of the interface is perfect as well. I know that I said a lot about the OS, but the hardware does its job and gets out of the way of user experience. I feel like the phone can handle anything I can throw at it, and that's more then enough for me.

    I have had this phone for close to 6 months and couldn't be happier. It still performs like a champ. Since I'm not a pictures guy, I find the camera to be up to the task for my picture taking needs. Transitioning from a Samsung S4, I find that this phone blows my previous phone out of the water in all aspects. I really disliked the touch wiz lag, so this was a breath of fresh air. The only thing I sometimes miss is the IR blaster. The battery life is much improved, but it could still be better. I have not had a single issue with overheating. I highly recommend this phone to anyone wishing to kick the Samsung habit.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Had the nexus 6 since it dropped. I love It!
    I love google/nexus products, because of the solid build quality, and constant update roll-outs directly from google without me having to do anything additional to get pure android. OEF is the worst on samsung phones, and has been since the Samsung Captivate back on FroYo 2.0. Those phones are great if your willing to tweak your phone for a better experience, however I believe if I pay a certain amount those features they should be included for the consumer. The inability to get updates directly from google on my Samsung Galaxy S3 was the reason i switched phones to this product. If you are iffy about buying a nexus product: These phones were built to last and made to update seamlessly. Motorlolas build quality has also noticeably changed in favor of a more sturdy design since they were acquired by google. This results in a phone thats pretty tough around the edges and well angled so it doesn't flip around a bunch when/If you drop it. I would 100% recommend the nexus 6 & nexus 6 p to anyone that enjoys android!
    Have a wonderful day!

    My first smart phone. I am a big guy with slightly above-average sized hands. I like it. It fits in my Honda Fit and the size of the display helps when using it as a navigation device. I am not a business user, so battery time has never been a problem. The screen is sharp and large enough to actually enjoy videos.

    I first got the Nexus 6 on its release date, and I fell in love with it right away. Although after a while I started to hate some aspects of it. Whenever I use my phone for more than 30 minutes or so, even if its just browsing Amazon or Reddit, it begins to get really hot until it finally freezes and turns off. It tries to turn back on, but it can't! It goes into an endless loop trying to boot, and the only way out is to open up the boot menu and turn it off. After that I have to wait until it cools down or else it wont turn on. I found that putting it in the fridge will cool it down quickly and the phone will turn back on.. but that is NOT something anyone should be dealing with.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ChuckSchuldiner14753 Wow! That's terrible. I know the Nexus 6 can get hot, but that's just not acceptable. I'd send it back to Google for a replacement before your warranty is over.

  • @StozySco
    @StozySco 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very happy with the Nexus 6, had it since December 2014.
    I use it one handed 90% of the time and find it manageable. I am using a Spigen thin case on it when out and about, so that helps make the dimple on the back an ever better tool for keeping a hold of the phone.
    Battery is pretty good, most of the time. Does get the occasional mystery drain.
    Not had an issue with the back cover, can get pretty hot though, especially when turbo-charging and with extended use.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** It's normal for it to get hot when it's turbo-charging since it has to charge at a higher amp rating. But I'm glad you like the phone! It's a great device. Thanks for watching Stuart!

    I just purchased the Nexus 6 and I came from an HTC M8. I took a side step instead of a true upgrade. What I do like the most is the potential lack of degrading over time. Every phone I have owned conveniently starts acting up at upgrade time. I have never had this issue with Nexus Devices and they run as smooth or better than the day I bought them. I will miss the HTC camera and the sound, but it is no big loss when I can actually use my phone. Dealing with carrier downloads to bloatware I didn't want and (possibly?) forcing Devices to lose performance may be a thing of the past.

    • @MatthewMoniz

    I bought this phone recently for my husband to replace his aging Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. I loved it so much just playing with while I transferred his contacts that I went and bought it for myself two days later. The screen is gorgeous! And the performance of this device/pure OS is so perfect I will likely never buy a non-Nexus device ever again. Just bring able to delete the Verzion bloatware that synced onto it alone was such a joyous feeling.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First, thanks for watching and subscribing! That's a nice upgrade! If you don't mind the size of the phone then you're getting a great experience. I agree it's nice to use a phone that's bloat free. It's a lot smoother! The Nexus 5 which I don't use anymore was one of my most used devices. Everyone I pick it up to use it again it's like putting on a nice pair of jeans.

    At this point, I am trying to decide on what phone to get with one of my criteria being a large screen phone. I was at VZ store yesterday and saw the Nexus 6. Its size blew me away. Between that and LG V10 and possibly the Note 5 and LG G4. I like the Nexus but am a bit concerned about its age. I know the Nexus 6P is out but VZ does not carry it yet. And am not sure if I want to pay its price when it comes out. I currently have an S4 and I know I would welcome any larger screen.
    The phone is more for daily use and watching movies on the phone. I am not a gamer or a power user. Any thoughts on this that would help me decide would be appreciated.

    I have a Nexus 6 and it has been great. I switched over from the HTC One m7 (the original) and the camera is a great improvement. The screen quality is a great improvement on what I had before. I love the battery save mode. with that I can go all day with LTE on and not worry about my battery crapping out before the end of the day. Now some things would be the inconsistency in battery life in normal mode, the camera is nowhere where it should be for a phone of this price and specs. Other than these minor issues I love this quick and snappy flagship.

    I just traded in my note 4 for the nexus 6 today. Wow I was impressed with how smooth the lollipop performs vs kitkat. I was experiencing a lot of problems with the note 4 randomly rebooting and the battery life sucked. I'm very impressed with the nexus 6 so far. Hopefully this battery will last a lot longer than the note .

    Also, Matt since you did review both N6 and Xperia Z3. Which would you prefer and why? I am in the market for a new phone and both have my eye. I need something that will keep me for the next 2 years and beyond. So what do you think?

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PHUNTER22 The Nexus 6 is great, but it's way to big for me. I would take the Z3 over the N6. Better camera, more accurate colours, waterproof and the size is perfect. You are giving up stock android, but the Z3 is very smooth and fluid.

    I can agree with everything that you said except I love using HDR+ as it does a fantastic job of adjusting photos properly. Even in low light but it's not great for doing fast moving objects in low light but that is minor in my opinion. As for speed I love it and I love the fact that when my phone is at 30% I can trust that with a 15 minute charge I will be at about 75% battery.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quick charging is sweet! Wish the battery would last longer though considering how big it is. Buts it's a solid phone! HDR does a great job but like you said it's only meant for if your object is not moving. Camera does load a little slow as well. Thanks for your input!

    I got my Nexus 6 just about a week ago and I'm loving it. I came from an S4 and this phone is so much better. My major issue with the S4 was the Bluetooth. I listen to podcasts and music in my car streaming through my phone and the way the S4 handles connecting devices is just really annoying. The N6 automatically connects as soon as I turn on Bluetooth and if Bluetooth is already running, it's just takes 2 taps to connect it to the car. The S4 is no where near as easy. The fact that the Nexus doesn't come with a ton of apps that I don't want and can't get rid of is a huge bonus, too. The only thing I do miss about the S4 is the eye tracking. If I was reading an article on my phone, the screen wouldn't turn off. Really, that's the only good thing about the S4 and that is pretty minor.

      It was quite the upgrade. I'm on Verizon and I still have unlimited data so I can only upgrade if I pay for the device myself. Luckily the Nexus 6 went on sale so I had to get it.

    Love my Nexus 6. I purchased it the day that Verizon started offering it. I was looking for the pure Google experience, without the bloatware that people complain about. I wanted to go big, so I could stop carrying a 7" tablet around to watch movies on, this definitely did the trick. The only thing I don't like so far is the GMail app. On my Samsung I had my Gmail account, for personal emails. And another email app for my work email, via the exchange server. Now Google makes you put them in the same place. This is probably more related to 5.1 than it is to the Nexus phone.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Steve, glad you're loving the Nexus 6. It definitely takes the need away of carrying two tablets. As for useing Gmail for both work and personal. You don't need to do that. You can download a different email app from the play store and set up your exchange to work with it.
      Check out CloudMagic on the play store.

    I just got the Nexus 6 and have an iPhone 6 Plus also. I like the size of the Nexus 6's screen very much, even though t's only a half inch larger. I have large hands, so with a case on the Nexus (and on the iPhone) I am fairly comfortable one-handing it for many, but not all, tasks.
    I took identical pictures on both phones--same time, place, light, etc--and I think the Nexus 6 was the clear winner, probably because it has a screen that really saturates the colors.
    Speed of processing is close, but I'd give it to the iPhone, overall by a small margin. The Nexus does get warmer, and has slightly less battery life, perhaps, but wow! does it charge fast!
    Using both for normal "phone work" shows a more obvious overall winner, mostly because of the software and freedom from too many buttons, in my opinion.
    I found I did not like the Google keyboard nearly as well as SwiftKey...not even close. And more surprising, voice input on the Google keyboard was faulty and doubled up for some reason. Voice input and predictive text were way ahead on SwiftKey. Google needs to address this.
    The Nexus feel like very good quality and because of the curved back, it fits nicely into my hand. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, is premium quality, and overall does a lot with the specs it has compared to the performance of the Nexus, which is really good, but which has better specs in MANY areas. Not seeing a performance gap. So these phones are very close, and it's too early to pick a winner except for one area: the navigation around and within both phones is good, but I hate the Apple button, and I have aways believed that Android is the superior software. Android 5.1 is a killer. Fast, buttery, and not gimmicky. Still deciding.

The display tend to get some burnin and you notice it if you look carefully, but I guess this is an issue on all phones. Never looked closely on it on other phones before. Nothing else to compain about. Best of all is the updates directly from Google, awesome!

      Curious question though - Did you ever get any reports or comments about the NFC on the device getting a bit spotty? I find it's almost a coin flip as to if it's going to work as intended or waste my time entirely.

      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @pattmyn
      @pattmyn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Moniz Most often I'm using a speaker or headset that can both pair via NFC and those seem to always want to be a bit finicky. One of my more "creative" uses is that I've got a tag written to launch the SquareEnix Authenticator App for when I put my phone down on my desk (because odds are I'll be launching the game shortly - that's the gaming computer desk lol). Never seemed to see these issues on my Xperia Z, Z1, or Z3, but they also had the advantage of having the contact point clearly labeled on the back.

    Just upgraded from the Nexus 5. The N5 was still pulling strong! But I got a fantastic deal on it and couldn't resist. LOL Both the N5 and N6 are running 5.1 and they are fantastic to operate on. The N5 has a bit more hangups and lag because it is a 2 yr old phone. But I could have lived with it until the New N5 2015's come out. But I digress....the N6 is a beast of a phone. I was in the market for a new tablet and thought why not get the N6 for the deal I got and kill two birds? Well I did, When I received it, I upgraded it to the latest tmo image for wifi calling. The one thing the N5 really lacked IMO. Well, if you are on Tmo.
    The Nexus 6 is a great phone, totally recommend it if you can get a deal on it. I think I actually paid less than the Nexus 5 was at launch for the 32 gb version lol.
    NFC, BT, Wireless charging and now the addition of wifi calling. Check, check, check and check...sold!
    Now am I anxious on the "next Nexus"? Sure of course! I am an avid Nexus user and consider myself a moderate user tester-outer on certain certain rooted functions if need be. So I will be waiting on the wings on that announcement when made.

    Hi Mathew, great video. There r some pros and cons regarding my nexus 6. First I love big sized phones, since I watch a lot of videos from TH-cam. Nexus usually gets the latest update from Google so that comes really handy. Other than that I m also happy with the camera. Yes , it is not the best camera phone out there but it is not bad either. What I don't like is the battery life. For a flagship phone such as this, the battery life is disappointing. Also the phone tends to heat up while charging. I don't know whether that is normal. Should I be worried? Anyways it is a great phone and I m very much satisfied.

      If you are using the included rapid charger, it will defiantly be hotter than you are used to coming from other phones. It uses qualcom quick charge 2.0, which is why we can get 6 hours of run time out of a 30 minute charge. If you have a 2 amp charger, you may prefer to use it for overnight charging to extend the lifetime of your battery. The faster you charge a battery the faster it will wear out. Quick charge 2.0 is very handy if you are a heavy user though.

    Don't like that I need a tool to remove the simm card. Phone sometimes runs very warm. Battery life is OK, similar to my last phone which was the Note 3. My Plantronics PT Legend bluetooth headset randomly disconnects with the Nexus 6, where it worked fine with the Note. Still working to resolve BT connectivity issue, updating firmware, etc. I like that the Nexus doesn't come with all the crapware but I do miss the beauty shot mode on the Note camera (sorry, I'm a girl), and the Note camera had some built in editing features I miss on the Nexus.

    Is it still worth the purchase? Yes it is! Been using it for about four months now on a daily basis.
    I am using this beast of a phone everyday. Hassle free. Battery life not too much of a concern as it lasts me the whole day with heavy usage. I use it for work purposes.
    Battery heat not too great of a concern. Never had the issue mentioned by the OP.
    Had a few ROMs flashed to it with ease. This thing flashed my current Nethunter ROM within 10 minutes. With my Nexus 7 it took the estimated 30 minutes though. Even the Restore and Backup function on the Nexus 6 is bloody damn fast.
    Camera is ok enough for me. I do take a a huge amount of pictures with it, but it serves my needs as 95% of them are work related. Even has the quality set down to keep my documents (excel) smaller for email purposes.
    I will gladly carry this phone for the next 20 months until my next contract upgrade. I just hope by that time that Google will have the next Beast up their sleeve for me to abuse!!
    I would recommend this phone to anybody who likes a versatile phone with which you can do many things.

    I wish people would stop saying the screen is not good. All you have to do is calibrate the display and it is on par if not better than the Samsung gs6

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people don't run custom roms or root their phones in order to calibrate the display. But you're right in a perfect world that would help out a lot.

    Yup, the switch in size is a bit of a culture shock, but I use my Chromebook for things that need more accuracy like forms and I'm hoping the larger size N6 will eliminate some of that need. This phone does get warm with use, but the case will run interference as a heat sink and help hold the back on if that ever became an issue... ;-)

    I have a Nexus 6 and a Nexus 6P (impulse buy)..the 6P is well, yeah..faster slightly..but I'm using my 6 again..this uni body Alloy is just cold and rather soulless, can't put my finger on it..Nexus 6 feels, dunno, like an old buddy..and the curved back just works for me..snug..and I haven't got big hands..think Google messed up going for high brand, instead of what us Nexus users want..a phone that hell, might not be the best..but it's ours, it's a mate..fast and get's the job done..and isn't $800 or as here in the UK a 64GB iPhone 6S is nearly £900 sim free..my Nexus 6 was £345 (64GB)..I'll spend the saving on a week in Majorca =) go figure....

      I currently use a Motorola Droid MAXX and it just....works. Everything is functional, the phone is rugged, good sized, pictures aren't glorious but get the job done, and it cost me 50 bucks at a church sale. I strive to find a phone that replaces it, that has the same battery life and durability I demand in my phones.

    I prefer the Moto X over the Nexus 6 mainly because of the size and the Motorola software. Camera and battery are their weakest points too. I got the Moto X and is running it on Android 5.1, which ispretty good, but a bit buggy. Let's see what Android M brings to the table.

      Matthew Moniz I do like it, it doesn't seem that big to me and I have average hands but picking up the OPO after makes it feel tiny. The only gripe i have seems to be the battery life, but then again it was updating and was just turned on for the first time a couple hours ago. I'll charge it to 100 tonight and see whats whats tomorrow and the coming week. Great channel BTW subbed.

      I think after you pick up the Nexus 6 every phone feels tiny. battery life was fixed in 5.1 on the nexus 6, you should see a big difference. Thanks for the compliment and great to have you as a subscriber. You win for having the longest username. : )

    Hey I'm just wondering if your device has screen burn-in, because I'm hearing it a lot about on the nexus 6

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Khadem Nope, no screen burin-in. But I have heard stories of people having burnin with there Nexus 6. It's to do with AMOLED panels and it could happen to any screen that uses the technology. There is a piece of free software you can download called burn-in fixer than will remedy the problem if it isn't too bad. Thanks for watching by the way! Feel free to share/subscribe.

    I recently picked up a new Nexus 6 from a T-Mobile Store. Upon opening the box (which was still factory sealed) I noticed that the edges around the back cover were separated around the edges and the back was bulged outward. I quickly returned it to the store and got a full refund. I have since then decided to order a brand new device directly from Google as T-Mobile didn't carry the 64 gig version. Being a new phone that hadn't been operational, I was surprised to see the new battery expend like that. I hope that isn't a problem with the new device I purchased from Google directly.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Crooks I've heard some people having issues with the back plate popping off due to battery expansion. The phone would get too hot and cause the battery to expand. I've never experienced this myself or seen it for myself, but I've seen a few people in the comments complain about it. I highly doubt it will happen.

  • @souravl8565

    The stock google camera app is not really up to the mark. Focusing in the N6 is unsteady. Every now and then it tends to refocus. HDR is way slow. The app does not even take advantage of the full Android camera API so we do not see any added advantage of the f2.0 lens. I think the N6 camera hardware is let down by the stock Google camera app.

      turn off unnecessary functions like bumps, vibrations, keyboard sounds and more. The more things you have monitoring your phone to make it more you, the more ram and speed you suck up. I have the Note 4. battery suffered horribly. Lagging galore. Now it is wicked fast and responsive, battery life is much better and I feel like I am in control of MY PHONE. I also turned off or uninstalled unnecessary preinstalled software. Also another big improvement.
