- Decided to use my Nexus 6 as my daily driver and give you some thoughts I had on the device after 8 months! Think it's still worth buying?

Have to say I agree with most of your points Tim Schofield (Qbking77), though for me at least battery life is much improved. I am however rooted & running a custom ROM & kernel (Chroma w/ modified Franco) which vastly improved battery life for me.

Tim Schofield (Qbking77) My nexus 6 back cam & flash got disabled when i did an OTA update to lollipop 5.0.1 on feb 2015 and still i am unable to get a permanent fix for this. Does any body know how to fix this huge paper weight? Pls help i have tried every single troubleshoot out their.
Tim Schofield (Qbking77) I believe Google had to go QHD for the Nexus 6. If they made it 1080P at a 5.96" screen size you would be looking at 369ppi compared to the 493ppi it gets with QHD. That makes a pretty significant difference in clarity. Nexus 5 as an example is 1080P but because of screen size is 445ppi which works well for the 5 inch display.

Adam Slobodian Not necessarily. It's almost impossible with the naked eye to see the differences. The differences in screen quality between my Note 4 and Nexus 6 compared to my Mediapad X2 are really non existent.
Well he did say he wanted it to be smaller so 1080 p would suffice.

Love my nexus 6, except for battery. You're absolutely right when it comes to battery.
Awesome super helpful... I am excited to try Project Fi, but I will definitely miss my iPhone. Definitely would like to see what the next software updates bring!

I just got my Nexus 6 and love it. The only few things i wish google would fix is the camera app, add double tap to wake and enable the led light without root.
BCJDM There is double tap to wake, go ahed and check every other review and they'll tell you :)
Adam Christiansen It is possible but the feature is disabled by default, you have to root in order to use it.

Pretty good, i can get guaranteed 1 day of heavy use. About 1 and a half days on regular use.
***** No not at all, if you care anything about software you'll know the note 4 eventually gets less responsive over time, and probably will never get any meaningful software updates ( i mean the new version of touchwiz from the S6). The Nexus 6 on the other hand has been getting better and better with each new version of Android. So suck on that.

Love the big screen, and has been a great phone so far. Also the software updates keep coming, and the phone is constantly getting better over time.
that thing with the speakers is the phone changing the position of the speakers. some songs have the feature to play some sound only in one speaker, and when you turn the phone so that the speakers are beside each other, that's when you really notice the difference between mono and stereo
I enjoy your reviews. I am 6'3" and I love this phone. I agree the battery could be much better. I am happy to report Google fixed the audio issue when you rotate the screen. Overall I this phone is great!

I love the Nexus 6. It's been my daily driver for almost a full year and I couldn't be happier. don't even plan on updating to another phone this year.
I have been using the nexus 5 for 19 months now and in response to your comment about the gap in the audio when you rotate the screen (I tried it on my device using the same video you pulled up on youtube, not that it matters), I did not notice any such gap on my stock android nexus 5. Just giving some inputs

That pause is for the stereo switch on the speakers because the screen rotating. If you rotate the opposite direction there is no clipping.

Hey Tim, have you had issues with the back panel of ur Nexus 6? Mine has gaps between the backplate and metalframe. I fear it is early signs of the battery expanding and pushing off the back panel.

Do you think I should get the Nexus 6 which is at a reduced price or should I wait for the new Nexus 5 or 6 which is coming in September 28? I've heard that the Nexus 5 will be around 400 bucks, which would be similar to the price of the 2014 Nexus 6.

hey Tim I like the fact that you didn't hold back your honest opinion! at the Nexus 6 and how it has been for you, from day one and 8 months later. that is exactly what the viewer wants to hear. when you can be honest and raw as you were with this review on this device, it was exactly exactly what I needed to hear! it's what I do on my channel and I appreciate your honesty and saying what it is! for how it is! I just picked it up for $349 at best buy my hope is that on Android M! and it will take care of some of the issues that you were talking about. I will use my device I will review it and we'll see how it compares to what you said about it? again thank you for being upfront and honest about this device I think there's a lot of potential with it even a year later. remember waiting could be a good thing or a bad choice, we don't know how long this price will last( could go up $50/$100 bucks or so?)or may not have it! to sell it? it's a chance you take and what if the new Nexus 5X just doesn't pan out for that price? or could end up being the HIT! of the year? flip a coin. I've been enjoying my N6 for 8 months now too, but I agree with you on most things except the size. I absolutely love the big size. The battery isn't the best but it's not horrible and turbo charge definitely helps. The camera is pretty good, except during low light but the camera software is horrible. I don't understand why Google doesn't put effort into making the camera software just as good as the other companies. Great video!

The audio pause is caused by the phone turning mono audio into stereo when in landscape
I'm still going to get this within the next couple of weeks. The Huawei and LG Nexus devices probably won't have front facing stereo speakers... and I HAVE to get a taste of that. Battery life will more than likely improve with Android M as well.
About the speakers at 2:50, i believe the gap is because the phone need to understand the orientation you have the phone so it can set the correct stereo sound!

There was no gap in music when I rotate my N6, I watched the same video too.
I think the gap in the audio when rotating is kinda logical, because they are stereo speakers and the sound can actually rotate with the screen. So when you rotate your phone the audio needs to be send to the correct speaker. It's actually very cool that the sound rotates too, although maybe the switch should be faster. Like you don't get a black screen when you rotate, so the audio transition could be smoother as wel. However, maybe they stopped the sound intentionally, because they got weird sounds when transitioning.
Does the 4 hour screen-on time still apply? DId they improve it?
Can you follow up video on nexus 6 with 1 or 2 of the best and stable custom rims out there and then do a final review of it for us?
I would like to see if there is any hope for a better nexus 6 for those that own it and those like me that would really like to buy it minus a lot the issues you mentioned.
Im poor if you had to pick between the nexus 7 or Asus Zenfone laser what would you pick?

that "pause" is the speakers changing from left to right if you flip the phone the left speaker is now the right speaker so it switches if you get what I mean
The audio bug when rotating screen is not a bug. The nexus 6 has stereo speakers so It has to adjust the sound coming out from each speaker to match the orientation. The nexus 5, also stock android doesnt do this because it has only one speaker.
thanks for the look. I am waiting for the Next nexus. I think 5.5 in is my sweet spot, just on the edge of too big. So if we get a 5.7 in Nexus, i wonder, and 5in isn't big enough now so.... Funny my under powered Idol 3 doesn't have that audio stutter, but does take an extra second or two when bringing up old apps from recent. However its my Daily driver, i love the Battery life and the feel and the screen. I think the over saturated AMOLED on the Moto x is why i don't like that one now. Is the Nexus 6 over saturated like the Moto X 2014?
I've got a Nexus 6 and moto 360 I'll tell you 1 thing it's a very good phone and also in Android m you're going to get allow rotation which means you can turn it sideways on the home screen for easy of use

just bought one my battery life is awful and the screen is pretty fim and whites are a bit yellow apart from that I'm loving it

The gap in the audio is caused by the left and right channels flipping over on the speakers to match the new orientation

Android cant do the same optimization as apple since Android may be tailor for the nexus but it still need to run in all devices. I just think that Motorola and Qualcomm dropped the ball on that device.
Would you still recommend the Nexus 5?
Haven't used another dual speaker phone, but I think the sound lag from rotating you device is because it is switching channels from left to right and vice versa
BTW you can decrease vibration from settings...
I hope the next Nexus won't be as large as the Nexus 6.

Huawei Nexus will have a 5.7" inch display but so far right its a rumor. Their will be 2 Nexus smartphones this year if this rumors are true.

I have never experienced that musicpausing bug on my G2 on any custom rom or even stock rom. Might be something with AOSP.
Damn and I was just considering possibly buying the Nexus 6. It just dropped down to the $350 price point too. Guess I'll wait until September 29th to see what Google has in store.

+Andre Rivers 6p is garbage. Huawei is well known in the phone industry for making terrible products. They're a newer Chinese brand that used to only make those cheap Chinese smart phones you see on Amazon and eBay for 80 bucks.
You can change to screen resolution to be 1080p if you're rooted to increase battery life and performance.
My only complaint about the Nexus 6 is the battery heats up quite quickly. Don't know if that's just a manufacturer quirk with my particular handset or not.

How's Android M battery life supposedly almost triples standby time
I only got it for the screen size, I won't use anything smaller.

I have that kind of vibration on my Moto G 1. Gen too.
I had one for a couple of month but got rid of it due to unstable messaging. my wife and I went to NYC for vacation using the same Providers. she has the Note Edge and I my Nexus 6. after really struggling with messaging I decided to get rid of.
now I have a Note 4 and no messaging lagging(stayed in "sending" screen forever!).
I like big phones 6" or bigger(have a Mega). won't compromise bellow 5.7".
Your nexus 6 had a problem because mine works perfectly.
Never had messaging problem on my Nexus 6 , I am on Verizon.
I love this phone but hate the camera app. And they should add multi window.
So i have the note 4 and i dont have the audio bug u should on youtube and i get 5 hours of screen on time with the 3200 mAh battery but i get 18 hours with my 10000 mAh battery from zerolemon boss of a battery and it will last 3 days with 18 hours of screen on time dont know how but i dont complain

XjonimX would try the Sony xperiz z3 or one of the sonys. I know they gave great rear camera's not sure about front. If you're willing to go up to 5.5 inch lg g4 or for 5.1 Samsung galaxy s6 / s6 edge / s6 active

When I rotate my Nexus 5 when watching a TH-cam music video there's no gap in the music.
Motorola did a decent job on the Nexus 6 but they could've done better. I'm kind of glad that LG and Huawei are making the new Nexus smartphones this year if the rumors turns out true.

OMFG. The reason it makes a pause between when you put it in landskape and portrait is because it first used MONO audio and then stereo audio. ofc it makes a pause, because it chances the whole audio experience.

Am I the only one that has this problem with my Nexus 6? Sometimes, in fact most times, when I touch to open Chrome there's usually a pause or a big pause before the app actually opens. Anyone else have this problem, or is it a problem with Chrome itself?
In case you want to do a give away of it I'm here because this device is awesome, specially the nexus 9 too. What a shame Motorola are not selling it in my country :/

I get better battery life on my note 3 when it's running on TW. AOSP is the worst when it comes to the battery life.
Stock Android needs a "kill all" options for apps.

I wish my iPhone's vibration was that loud. I have missed so many texts and calls because the vibration of the iPhone 6 Plus that I have is very low.
That's why you use a text tone instead of relying on vibrations to make sound
Rob Scott That defeats the purpose of using vibration. I don't use text tones or ringtones. I always and have always used vibration only. This is the first phone I've had that has had that issue and according to a few Apple forums many users have had the same issue. There isn't an option to choose the intensity as there is on android. Apple needs to fix that.

Rob Scott Because it has always worked for me. I am not a fan of ringtones and text tones. And I am usually at work or in school or in places where I wouldn't hear a ringing phone, but have felt the vibration of a phone. I prefer vibrations. It's just a preference just as using a text tone or ringtone might be for you.

please revisit... trying to decided if this nexus 6 well be good for 2 more years.... I want 6p but I have sprint but not 5 or 600 to shell out of pocket at one time
+Craig Vaughn (ckvisme) ya I too like you in the same boat. I have a LG G2 right now but looking to upgrade soon. I have found sprint to be good for the fact that they have a unlimited package (I haven't really have much problems with coverage) which is nice but for devices they suck cause they don't give as many choices as the other carriers.
+Carlos H too true... I have am m8 now and really I don't see any phones at sprint (online) that look like a proper upgrade (that will last 2 years). I'm NOT a fan if TouchWiz and the Sprint Note 5 has the Exynos chip instead of the Qualcomm snapdragon
I'm very into custom roms and have MultiRom so a Nexus would be ideal... just wish Google would let carriers see the new Nexus devices...
Ya I think that would be a awesome phone to play around with. With it being stock you can do just about any and everything you want to it. That's what I like about it. But I'm just a little bit worried that it is "out dated" is all. Or is it still worth my time to pick it up.

just bought one yesterday can't get more than 3 hours screen time and the screen is a bit dull apart from that i love it got it for £130 so can't complain
