    This would be great for me. Hauling wood around the yard, drive 5km down the road and another 5km on trails for trout fishing and bird hunting. I rarely ride more than 25km in a day.

    Curious of the battery warranty details. Does 70% battery capacity degradation still fall within suitable conditions? So after 5 years you’re down to 56 mile range [driving like a grandma], at which point is not acceptable.
    Great review though fellas
    Edit: even the way you were driving, routine trail recreation, the estimated range shown @5:43 of 34 miles at 62% is only calc’d out to 55 miles total range from full.
    Plowing or really doing anything in the cold? Hmm I dunno. I sure wouldn’t want to be out in the wilderness and wonder if my 20% will get me home. I guess rule of 3rds from boating could apply. But I much prefer taking a 5L jerry with me just in case

      The battery warranty is for five years, but non-defective lithium-ion batteries don’t lose 30% capacity in five years. And the batteries don’t care how aggressively you drive.
      How long will the battery last?
      Over the course of a typical ownership period, the batteries are designed to last the life of the vehicle. For example, although the longevity of the batteries depends on factors that can vary widely from customer to customer like frequency of use and miles of use, an average customer ownership period should retain 90-95 percent of the original battery capacity! That means that these batteries can go thousands of miles before they may lose only a few miles of range.

      Polaris warrants the battery for five years, and they are not just winging it with fluffy optimism. Their warranty is based engineering analysis and extensive historical experience with lithium ion batteries. They’re using Zero’s technology, so have plenty of historical data - along with the extensive industry experience with lithium-ion batteries.
      If you lose 30% capacity after five years, the battery is deemed defective and you file a warranty claim. The expected degradation for a non-defective battery, though, is actually only 5-10%.

    • @andrewsbbq
      @andrewsbbq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChitFromChinola 5 years is the warranty, but ownership could be 25 years.
      Only way it isn't degrading more in adverse conditions is locked reserve capacity offsetting it
      Does it have battery conditioning? Or will it push snow at -15 winter after winter and only see 5% loss.
      Even the trail riding in the video massively killed its range potential.
      Call me when solid state is reliably in consumer hands and economical

      @@andrewsbbq Ok, but how but this? EV batt life is generally tracked by the amount of charge cycles. The average according to a quick search is 1500-2000 charge cycles. Let's knock that down to 1000 for worse case. They say 80 mile range but as you (and DirtTrax) pointed out, that gets reduced with agressive driving. So lets use 50 miles. Simple math is 50K miles. That's a lot of miles for a SxS and probably a much longer life span than most SxS engines with sooooo much less maintenance.

    Have you used it in the mountains? My use would be on a mountain trail averaging about a 15 degree slope but at times up to an approximately 25 degree slope. I am assuming a dry trail. I like the quiet stealthiness and decreased risk of sparking a wildfire. Slow for safety is fine - just need to make it. Nice that it has a place to mount a winch to help out.

  • @greggb681
    @greggb681 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This would be a great SXS for scouting animals in. Early morning drives to find bears and moose would be so nice in something this quiet! If you have a powerboost f-150, the newly released PHEV Ford Ranger or the upcoming Jeep Gladiator 4xe, you will be able to charge this SXS while camping or hunting.

  • @Dusdaddy
    @Dusdaddy ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Outside of long way trips or overnight camping lacking any power, hard not to like this. 60 miles is actually a long distance in a SxS or any off-roader. This would satisfy the majority of users easily. Especially those who use it for utility. It would make a great plow rig, no cold start to get it going and outside of commercial use, not many will plow 60 miles of driveway. Cost and battery life-cycle will be the only issue. On some cars the batts are estimated to last 300K or more so if this can handle 50K, that will reach the life most will give a SxS.

    • @andrewsbbq
      @andrewsbbq ปีที่แล้ว

      Power wise just fine, better than a lead acid+alternator. What is does to range? If you have a 300w light bar, and 400w stereo at full that’ll be 0.7kwh usage on this approx 30kwh battery. So if you were camping with a full battery you could hypothetically run the light bar full time and stereo at max for 43 hours

    There are a ton of applications for this machine and its evident by it being completely sold out. It has been for quite some time now. Small to large farm will benefit from this machine. Many here use older golf carts from local golf courses to get around. Adding a cab and the HVAC (Northstar Edition) takes this to the next level. Starting our Gator to go down to the mail box (long driveway) for packages or run down to the the barn isn't always ideal. Our furthest pasture is 5mi away and the parents are the same distance. I do wonder about the charging end of this machine several years down the line
