    Anyone who pays attention to the off-road trail systems around the country, especially in the northeast, knows that machine noise is a major problem for establishing sustainable, interconnected trail systems. It's a constant battle with locals just to establish land to drive on. I can't wait for the technological advances that are coming in the next decade that will make electric a no-brainer and will really help overcome one of the largest objections to the creation of trail systems around the country. ATV manufacturers have done a horrible job at reining in the noise on their traditional machines, so this should be awesome. In 10 years, when you can get 400 miles of charge in about 10 minutes, all this hand-wringing and nay-saying should largely go away.

      Charge times and mileage will be improved over time. New technology with Super Capacitors is showing charge times in minutes and recharge cycles on the order of 100,000-1,000,000. Issue is having a charge station with enough kilowatts to dump that much energy within mins. Give it time, it's coming! Biggest issue with electric anything is water and moisture!

    I'm really confused about extreme delay in delivery where Polaris cites supply chain shortages that have been known for literal years but they seem to act as though it's all of a sudden. What kind of timeline is there for delivery of the products? Is it 2022 still or is it going to be Q1, Q2, or Q3 of 2023? Any thoughts?

  • @JohnMcNerney

    This seems like the deluxe version. I'd really like to see them put some effort into a more affordable, work-related machine. The towing and payload capacities are impressive, but I have ZERO need to go 60 MPH. I need a UTV for working in the woods. I'd gladly trade some of that 110 Hp and top end speed for more range or a more affordable price. Their claimed range would be fine for me if all I was doing was riding around unloaded. However, I'm sure I'll get nothing near that when towing an 800# log splitter or a 1000+# trailer. I will be watching them closely to see if they come out with other models in this series.

    • @JohnMcNerney
      @JohnMcNerney ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, the original Polaris EV (25 MPH max speed) would suit my needs, but they really need to update the technology. Get rid of the flooded lead acid batteries for Lithium Ion or some other modern offering, change the charging system to be able to work off the same SAE J1772 charger I use for our electric car. If they can do that while keeping the price reasonable I'd be waiting in line to order.
      I am encouraged by the offering of the XP Kinetic. It shows what can be done with a "high end" design for an electric UTV. Now how about filling out the line-up?

      Some are more than others, snorkelled ones tend to be louder because the CVT exaust in your face is like a personal CVT speaker.
      However, the AC prowler pro is probably the quietest as the machine running is quieter than you talking to a buddy 2 ft away.
      But like I've commented before in this machine. It is not going to be great for going I to the wilderness. It's likely fantastic on a farm/ranch with the torque of an EV.
      And again, for those that are oblivious to science and manufacturing, EV's are NOT ENVIRONMENTALLY CLEANER TGAN GAS. I Ly when you compare a finished product does it look cleaner. But when considering mining, batteries, power plant types used to generate electricity, and all the oil based products such as plastics, EV's are dirty. But they have benefits and uses for some scenarios.

    I love the advantages of electric but the few major disadvantages make them unusable. 1. Slow charging 2. Availability of charging (particularly off-grid/road) and the 3.Extremely low mileage (especially for such a long charge time). It's a niche market that needs to exist but I hope they don't force it into their line-ups too hard. Obviously it's less the choice of the manufacturers and more of the government mandates and changes within industry but that's just not realistic yet.

      @@justind6039 he's too busy humping a tree to respond. Let him spend his money on a combination of 2 awful manufacturers for an electric turd with a realistic 30 mile range at best.

      @@andersbjrnsen7203Fear of change.
      As an around the homestead, log pulling, firewood hauling, hunting vehicle, I say it's plenty capable.
      Moreover if you have a carport/garage where you can solar up the roof, and wind up a pole, you have your means of charging the unit while it's not in use, without using grid power.
      I'd prefer an RTG myself, 1-2kw, but the government frowns upon civilization ownership of radioactive stuff and such. So no bueno there...
