    Love the design. Flawless functionality. Naturehike Cloudup 1 is my bikepacking tent. Also carry hammock and 2 siliconed cotton tarps to cover bike and outdoor cooking area. It's like canvas, but weighs much less.

      Naturehike make some impressive tents. I really like my Mongar 2. Siliconed cotton tarps? I haven't seen those. I'm going to have a look. cheers 👍

      @@matryderreviews I make them. (1) king sized bed sheet from Goodwill ... $7. (1) Tube clear silicone ... $5. (1) gallon mineral Spirits $12. Mix everything in plastic bag with sheet. Saturate completely. Hang 6 hours to dry. Attach tie-out points. Having waterproof, homemade 'Egyptian Oil Cloth' [$375] canvas that weighs about the same as backpacking tarps but acts like canvas in wind ... priceless! [See step by step how-to videos on YT]

      @@matryderreviewsthe Mongar is a really great, and much underrated tent. Most who have one really rate them.
      The cost of some premium tents which flap and rattle all night long is definitely my main reason presently not to “upgrade” to certain ‘top drawer’ label tents.

    One thing that puts me off is, on another review of the PC, it leaked where the chap was pressing against the side. For that reason I'll consider the standard Vern 1 I think, but an amazing structure and as you say, bombproof.

    G'day from Australia.
    I think it's not the question of whether it is worth it, it's more so if the quality there meets the cost of the tent. I am buying one soon and that's why i watched your vlog, to see if the quality is there. That's what i want to know.

    This tent would work very well for me. My camping is 90% just outside the vehicle camping. So the weight is not an issue. The most important factor for me is getting a good night sleep and I cannot stand flappy, noisy tents that make 20 mph wind seem like 40, and 40 mph wind seem like 60.

    • @matryderreviews
      @matryderreviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This tent is rock solid, there will be no flapping. I can't wait to get it out in some challenging weather to give it a proper test. Cheers 👍

    The polycotton is heavy. But, it's much sturdier than silnylon and quieter in wind. And more space on the inside. Both versions of the Vern 1 look like great tents.

    • @Lindisfarnefarmer
      @Lindisfarnefarmer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nortent made the New Vern 1 slightly bigger than the PC version, so you don't lose space inside. 😉

    Love that tent. Love polycotton too... but they do do a lighter weight plastic version...........

  • @ZaphodTube
    @ZaphodTube 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The selling point for me would be a silent and robust tent - and I love the single sheet concept with a nicer less plasticy material. I also value nice quality gear and like buying less stuff. Would mostly go kayaking and biking and therefore don‘t mind one or two kilograms more. Think this will become my new go to tent. (if my xl mattress fits in there…)

    • @matryderreviews
      @matryderreviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'll see if I can pitch it today and get you the dimensions. If not it'll be tomorrow. It's definitely robust and silent. I love canoeing and you're right that it's perfect for that. I think that one day, l'll be out in some hideous winds/rain/snow and then love it. It almost needs to be goaded into making sense.

      @@matryderreviews thank you so much! And thanks for your time and thoughts. My next big trip is in scandinavia and being comfy in all conditions sounds awesome. Maybe even XL mattress comfy 😂 All the best to you!

    Very nice review,but if I may be so bold as to notpick slightly. I always found it alot more useful when the reviewer includes a sleeping mat when they are showing the inside room of the tent.
    Other than that, I think you covered this tent nicely. I am waiting delivery of my own later this march, so I am looking forward to testing it out myself

      You're right on both counts. I've come to the conclusion that it's a four season tent and it only makes sense to use it in the 4th season. Cheers 👍

    Been looking at the other version of this, the Vern 1 2024, made of silnylon. I can't justify a 4th tent though and won't really take advantage of it's 4 season abilities!

    • @matryderreviews
      @matryderreviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know what you mean. Now I have a 4 season tent I have to go out in the snow and blizzards. I think it'd be pretty cramped with an inner tent.

    I would like to see that tent in heavy rain . In snow I would be more confident I think . All I see lately on TH-cam are reviews on the new Vern 1 2024 . Thanks for sharing , subbing to your channel at the same time

    • @matryderreviews
      @matryderreviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Excellent. Thanks. The last time I had it out it rained for most of the night and it seems to be waterproof. I would love to get it out on snow but it's not likely now. Saying that, I'm off into France/Spain shortly so I could take it with me and find some snow in the Pyrenees...If I do there will be a video on my main channel. I haven't seen The Vern 1 2024 yet. I'll have a look. Thanks for commenting and subscribing. Cheers 👍

    I struggle slightly to see the target for this tent. While it could be carried in a pack it is really too heavy and bulky for backpacking, and if one is therefore just going to be using it in places where you can drive to your spot (or most of the way) then weight and size is not really a consideration, meaning you may as well get something a bit bigger to allow for a more comfortable camp out. Still a lovely tent nevertheless.

    • @matryderreviews
      @matryderreviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree completely. I bought it but I don't think I should have. Instead of buyers remorse I think I'll aim to get some use out of it in some seriously bad conditions. It could be fun.

    • @simonsharp9162
      @simonsharp9162 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes i think the same. Though perhaps it could be a bicycle touring tent ? I'm weighing up that option now as i love pc tents but mine are huge !

    • @matryderreviews
      @matryderreviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's weird to be honest. It breathes well but ends up feeling a bit slimy. Everything stays dry though. I can't tell whether I really like it or not. I think it only makes sense in challenging conditions.
