    Nortent of Norway were kind enough to send me their NEW beefed up Vern 1 solo 4 season tent to test. If ever there was a rival to the Hilleberg Soulo I think this could be the one but what's it like when the weather is just still and wet and you're camped on wet ground by a loch..is it a condensation nightmare ? This is my first night in it, but does it live up to the hype and can it be used in less demanding dank Scottish conditions.

    Hi Andrew. Thank you very much for the shout out and hopefully our paths will cross very soon and I can buy you a G&T... Another excellent video - The Vern is certainly an excellent option for next winter... I'll very much be following your Mont Blanc adventure... It will be great research for a future visit of my own. Hi Andy, nice review, lovely spot. Looks somewhat familiar and brought back happy memories! Good test for the Vern 1 in different still potentially damp conditions and I am glad it performed well. looks like it will be good with condensation too. Hope this one is a keeper for you! But selling your packraft, noooooo!

    Cheers, Joke, very impressed, still waiting for mine. If this tent did 'leak', how bad would it be through those seams, any worse than condensation?
    You'll probably find that sniffing and noise around your tent was a low land Haggis. it's the matting season.

    Brilliant as always Andy. Well done on the subs. I just received the caldera sidewinder for my pot and the cost was ridiculous to get it over here. I hope stripey gets his off the ground so U.K. campers can have a good affordable option.

      Thanks a lot Andrew, I am on it - looks promising. Regarding the pot, the current configuration is made for highest efficiency. You can imagine it like boiling water at home in a frying pan vs. a high and narrow pot with the same volume. The water will boil quicker in the frying pan with the same amount of heat . @Paul this was actually how it started, I just wanted a high efficiency alcohol cooking system and unfortunately there weren’t any available and the ones I could find weren’t nesting in a pot or had big design flaws!

    Nice little outing for the Vern 1, Andrew! The ventilation does seem to be good for a four season tent. I wonder if it might have been an otter that came sniffing in the night and then ducked into the water? James.

    Hi Andrew, thanks for making this. I've really enjoyed seeing the videos from different TH-camrs come out about this tent and this is a slightly different one by focusing on condensation rather than wind.
    I was wondering if there was any mileage in doing a comparison video between this and the old Vern 1 in terms of quality, user experience and anything else you feel is worth mentioning. Is the old Vern 1 still a good buy or is it better to go for this one? Obviously depends on the use case. Interested to hear your thoughts.

    So...Andrew...it's the New Zealand branch here. The new Vern 1!. Quite some tent! I have watched Fellman Dave's and Paul Messner's videos of the new Vern 1. So...I went back and watched video 307 where you took out the old Vern 1 to Conic Hill but you didn't take the second longitudinal pole..which you regretted as it was very windy and you relocated down the hill to pitch again. I am thinking that the new Vern 1 is really a very different tent. Three essential poles vs 1 plus optional pole. Poles clip to the outer vs 1 pole in a sleeve. It's geodesic and self supporting vs not freestanding (unless second pole used). It's also fundamentally a different shape from the earlier Vern 1 which is shaped like two cones meeting at the widest point. Like an extended Hilleburg Enan with conical ends. The "use case" seems to be different too. The early Vern 1 seems to be half a kilogram lighter as more of a 3 season tent (with 1 pole) and a "claim" to be a 4 season tent with 2 poles. Fellman Dave says the new Vern 1 tent weighs 2.9 kilograms with footprint. Which I'd say is an okay trade off as it really is a full 4 season rated tent. Have I summed that up fairly? Perhaps Nordisk thinks the old Vern 1 is obsolete? superseded? And they are not going to make any more of the first Vern 1? Any further thoughts on the new vs old Vern 1s?

    • @AndrewParkOutdoors
      @AndrewParkOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello NZ! ( Still need to there ) :-) You've pretty much summed that up and I'm not sure whether they are phasing out the previous Vern 1 but the fact they've used the same name makes me think so, even though they are quite different beasts with different usage scenarios. They could probably sell both but i don't actually know what their plans are. Despite the weight I much prefer the new one I have to say ! A

      Whilst I have some sympathy with this there is also an opposite point of view. Some reviewers who own the shelter being reviewed suffer from confirmation bias ie they've made a decision and they rave about their new gear as subconsciously they need to justify their decision and expenditure. By chance I've just read a sentence from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice: "How quick comes the reasons for praising what we like". Which shows the idea has been around 200 plus years! It is notable how many buy gear, it's the best thing since sliced bread, but is then quickly sold on. Another tendency is for reviewers to pass definitive judgements without personal experience of much other alternative stuff. Andrew clearly has wide ranging experience.
