2020 CLA 35! Why it's the BEST entry level AMG!!

- Welcome back to RBR guys! We’re at the home of #MercedesAMG in Affalterbach today, to talk about what could be the best entry level #AMG you can buy... the new #CLA35 4matic!!
Now last time we looked at the A35, I described how the car felt like a super transformation vs a standard A just like you’d hope for with an AMG: SO when we tested the CLA45S I was expecting the same next level from the A35... but we didn’t experience it at least not with sound. Undoubtedly better dynamically with great neutral handling, and with an incredibly responsive engine but we were left cold on exhaust sound.
That got me thinking, where does the CLA35 then stand? Surely it’s the tastiest compact AMG you can buy? Something we mused over in the standard CLA video too! This is what we will explore today!
Now to give you the basics: The previous entry level 4 door sedan was the AMG C43. With a V6 bi turbo attached to a standard 4 Matic, it’s like a 35 version of the C Class, with little to nothing shared with C63. Whereas the CLA35 takes the winning DNA of a previous flagship CLA45 AMG and makes it it’s own!
So we explore just how much of an AMG air is and most importantly: this or the CLA45S emotion wise?

This is my favorite review of the CLA35 so far! Your car switching photos are magical! I don’t know you do it. I’ve only had my silver CLA35 for a week now but I am loving it so far! It may be the best car I’ve ever owned.

@Auto blipper The only better looking model BMW has is the X5. All other models Mercedes designs better, way better!
Mercedes interiors are too good to pass up. Yes BMWs drive better but only for the 1st 3 years. After that the plastic parts begin to fall apart. Although I will admit after about 5 years those Benz interiors also look pretty bad. Buy what you want.

Is it the actual same brakes on a new cla35 and the old gens cla45? Would brake pads for a cla45 old Gen work on a new 2020 cla35? Rotors?

BTW - something weird going on with this video - The wheels are for Premium only (in the UK at least), the black version of those wheels are standard on a CLA 45 but not silver. Also, Mercedes have now removed the heads-up display for all models. Not even an option now.

Hate the lack of aggressiveness in the AMG in these newer ones... now you have to get the AMG S just to get a decent looking bumper
Will the UK version sound anything like this?
I'm really on the fence whether I should go CLA45s or CLA35 for every day and a few Touristenfahrt runs on the Nürburgring, once our borders open up again.. I've driven the A35, A45s and CLA45s, but never the CLA35. I'm a big fan of mega speccing it and having some extra bank for the boring stuff life throws at you from time to time.
Why do you need a CLA if you have instant transmission?
Interior bonuses only available in Germany tho ... UK spec (like you said) is a lot more basic imo

How come in your hatchback review of the a35 you were no where near as positive? You seem to love the sedan version of the a35 even suggesting not many won't use all of the power in the a45s...yet you say the hatch a35 is "down on power"...so which is it?

GerryManning1 they are. The 2022 C63s will be 4matic. It won’t have a V8 though and will have the 4-cyl hybrid engine but will still have 510 HP
Isn't this engine based on the old 250 engine ....nothing to do with the old A45 engine ??
It’s a nice base model AMG, not a huge fan of the design though, compared to the 45 version, a bit too soft.
It looks exactly the same to the 45, this one in the video doesn’t have to areo pack

Audi set the bar with their A-S-RS lineup. Can see why Merc wanted a mid-tier S line, but shouldnt have used the AMG badge. Totally watering it down. Should have these new sportier models sit on their own GT line or similar. branched lineup into Luxury (Designo -> Maybach) and Sport (Mercedes-Benz -> AMG) lines. The Benz line would be these 35/45 models with styling and AMG logos on inspired wheels etc like in past, but wouldnt wear the name or feature panamericana reserved for the big boys. Would elevate the Designo line and could feature some trickle down options from the Maybach in the same way. Would eliminate "fake AMG" accusations. Pricing would go M-B -> Designo -> AMG -> Maybach.

Daniel still an entry level amg. I was torn between cla 35 and c43 and went with the cla. Beats the c43 in every department other than a little bit more power and sound. Nothing a remap can’t fix.

I love the car, i want to get it, but i think its a bit too expensive, specially for an entry level car (CLA), which is basically an A class, and the 35 is not an actual AMG, rather tuned. It should be cheaper to allow people access
I love your channel but hate your viewers. Half of the comments in your videos are filled with pure illogical fan boys. Liking the product is one thing but blindly following any product is another. (Not referring to this particular car, great video). Being a fan of a brand because they happen to make things that follow philosophy your enjoy is one thing, but blindly following a brand for the sake of following a brand is just dumb. No brand should be blindly followed. And brands hi originally fell in love with SHOULD BE CRITIQUED if they have changed in values or progress in ways that are against their original values (ex Porsche)

I actually really like the A45... funny cuz I'm not into hatchbacks/wagons but there's something about it. Sucks it's not available here.
