Hey Alex, long time fan of your work. One idea/suggestion I had was maybe including a letter score for tech/infotainment system? This is becoming a more important thing for car shoppers and really ties the interior together. Keep up the awesome work!
Great review as always. You explain the models and trims so well. I feel most shoppers at MB dealers would get lost and confused with he nuanced differences across these lower-end cars.
To bad they all look the damn same... They look good, but its still a boring design, Mercedes has no balls to try something new like Toyota. Not saying Toyotas are "better cars", but atleast toyota has the balls to release cars with designs that noone wouldve ever thought of.
I’m currently weighing up a C43 or a CLA35. They both pretty much tick my looks and performance boxes, and the updated newer spec on them both (2020-2023) are within my budget. My only thing is as I do 170 miles a week ish, I do wonder which will be heavier on fuel. I know the 43 will drink a bit more but if it’ll really be enough to notice tremendously I’m unsure of, and will it be a trade off of any real significance? I don’t want it to become a chore to fill the car up, but at the same time I understand it could be £60 per week or so. Coming from a £30/week A250 AMG Sport!
The CLA35 is a cool car for sure, but $46-70k opens up a lot of options on the market, and I can think of a number of other cars I’d rather have for that price. I’d either go for an M240i (real coupe) or go one class up in the luxury segment for that price to an S4 or a C43. Or I might even save some cash and get a Stinger GT or a G70 3.3T.
Mercedes and in particular AMG are known for catastrophic depreciation. This will be Corolla money in a few years as long as you can afford the maintenance and repairs.
@@demolisherOfMoney eh s3 is faster than the 35 and far cheaper than a 45 so not entirely? I mean you can make a cla 220/250 cost more than a mid range s3 so with options the 35 and 45are very overpriced
Alex - as far as I understand it, the term "coupe" meaning is European english semantics for both a two door or a four door car -per your correct explanation - especially the looks (slope) from the C-pillar on to the trunk area. Here in the U.S. this is a sedan for us, regardless of the window frame and C-pillar design, period! . 😀
Sometimes we clean our room but as we acquire more things and eventually we give up on making our rooms tidy. These german car manufacturers are just like us with their lineup consolidation.
Mercedes’ overpriced cars and options are leaving the market wide open for cars like the Genesis G70 3.3T AWD, new Lexus IS, and new Acura TLX Type S to slide in and easily under cut the performance and pricing. I hope Genesis, Lexus, and Acura take good advantage of this opportunity because if they get greedy and price their cars the way Lincoln, Infiniti, Cadillac, Volvo, Audi, Buick, and Jaguar does, they won’t stand a chance against the Merc and BMW.
There def is truth to what you said, but most ppl when they make more money, also spend more as well. There is a huge difference between dealership experiences when comparing that.
Mercedes's pricing structure has gone a bit ballistic. All their models are $5k-10k more than what they should be. I could get a very well equipped C43 coupe for the price fully loaded CLA35. You get an actual 2-door coupe, a faster, better engine, better transmission and more fun car.
I agree, The lack of options is the only way to beat it etc. I just picked up a 21 A35 with 4 options for 47.4 otd. It wasn’t easy as I did want more, but I wasn’t going over 50k for it, not worth it in my opinion.
Harold Nkgudi I’m wondering if the issue here is that these brands are so often leased, and therefore they don’t care for buyers who hold these cars for longer/buy them second hand.
AqWE is what makes it faster than the Type R, not the transmission alone. Honda has Ito limit the power in first year due to wheel spin which doesn't happen with awd. Get off your soapbox for the dct everything. FWD vs AWD in a drag race is not an apples to apples comparison. See WRX STI
$68,000 with all boxes checked? At the same price, you can get all boxes checked BMW 440i xDrive Gran Coupe. With new 4 series coming down the pipe, you can expect pretty discounts at the dealer. You would have money left over for some M goodies.
Mercedes is out to lunch if they say that this competes with the 2-series coupe and not the grand coupe. No one who is doing comparison reviews is putting this up against a 2-series coupe, regardless of what Mercedes is telling you. Their info must be out of date (the 2-series grand coupe was just released) and the marketing person you must have been talking to doesn’t know anything about cars to realize it.
OMG the names have just got so confusing anymore. Unless it says S Class or E class, their names just don't catch my attention. Same with BMWs anymore.

No, Alex.. YOU are becoming a sexier version of yourself.. lol.. Sorry, can't do anything else but admire your handsomeness.. But in all seriousness.. there's no way for the life of God I could afford this car on my credit score or my country. Maybe I'm just a lower middle-class guy speaking with the poor mouth...but $47K starting is NOT what I would call affordable. Maybe it's affordable to the upper middle-class, but not for a family man in my position. But, then again, I guess that's why I drive a Ford.
Imagine making a car like this expecting to be able to sell a bunch of them for ~$60k and then having the global economy take a giant shit thanks to a virus and have nobody buy the damn thing 🤣🤣
the CLA 45 has the most powerful production 2L engine in the world doing about 385 HP. the 45 S uses the same engine but pushes out 421 HP. Not bad for a 4 cylinder, while some V8's can barely do 350. I like the lower gas bill ;)

its not all about engine... for me the CLA looks outstanding and ist imo the most beautiful coupe out there...
Alex why did you skip the trunk section?
Hows the riding? Bumpy? Or smooth?
I really wish Mercs and BMWs weren’t so expensive. They are so much cooler than Volkswagon’s Audi offerings.
Audi competes in the same price range though, just a tad bit bland compared to these two lol

If these were any less expensive, they wouldn't be this much desirable. 🤷♂️
Just buy one after 2-3 years. It will be worth half the price. Once the warranty expires it’s even more worthless.

So similar outputs compared to the Type R engine
