      +Geno Ivanov (FeraL) he spread the thermal paste, he wiggled and applied pressure to the CPU, like pretty much the entire CPU installation was a little bad

    • @FeralGameing
      @FeralGameing 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrFiggets AMD requires a bit of pressure(just to hold it in place), intel does not require pressure, and he did not apply pressure to the intel one :)

      +Geno Ivanov (FeraL) I've installed AMD CPUs without applying pressure and it works fine.

    I have to agree with many other people here. The video is put together very nicely. You didn't rush the process like some other tutorials, you didn't try and speed up the video at any point i saw, and you defined all the parts and how they work and plugin extremely well. Also you didn't try and lock the camera at one point, or make the viewer follow one specific way of doing something. You stated a few times that there are a few ways to do some of the steps and it depends on the experience and the person and I have to agree.
    Really i got bored today and decided i would look up some gaming PC builds and also recommendations. I have probably spend at least 6 hours just watching TH-cam. This video in my opinion was the best I have seen so far. I followed this very easily and to be honest, if i try and build a PC I plan on following this video because of how clearly it is demonstrated.

  • @amillian21
    @amillian21 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I really appreciate that he took the time to zoom in so we could actually see what he was doing. He also makes slow, calculated movements so you don't have to get a migraine trying to keep up with what's going on. All the other how-to videos I've seen were just some jerk babbling about what to do, while doing it at (what seems like) lighting speed, from an angle where you couldn't see a single blessed thing.
    Plus he even tells you, albeit briefly, what to do after you start the computer. Pretty cool.
    While not perfect, this video has been immensely helpful. Thank you!

    NEVER WIGGLE THE CPU ONCE IN! YOU CAN BREAK THE SMALL GOLD PINS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CPU AND IN SOME CASES, INSIDE THE ACTUAL CPU ARRAY/SOCKET. IF JUST ONE OF THESE PINS BREAK, YOU CAN'T BEND THEM BACK. YOU HAVE TO BY A NEW CPU. THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS IF YOU HAVE MADE THIS MISTAKE WITH A 5th GEN 8 CORE i7 (XEON SERIES) WHICH AVERAGES AT AROUND $1300-$1500. THE ONLY FORCE THAT YOU SHOULD EXERT DURING THE CPU'S INSTILLATION IS WHEN PUSHING THE ARM DOWN AND THEREFOR CLOSING THE LID THAT COVERS THE SOCKET.
    I AM WRITING IN CAPS SO 1ST TIME BUILDERS WILL READ. YOU'RE WELCOME.

    A lot of pc community don't like to admit it, but building a computer is not cheap as they want you to believe. That because you need to spend money on the *Mid-Tower, the Motherboard, CPU, the CPU Cooler, the Power Supply, HDD, SSD, thermal paste, Air or Liquid Cooler (if your mid tower doesn't have one already), a mouse, keyboard, a operation system* and often even a *monitor, a desk (if you do not have one on your own, a office chair or any other chair, the screwdriver* and *speakers*. If you build yourself, you'll have to buy those things separately, and the price can add up fast.

    Also building a computer can be difficult and stressful because there are a thousand things that could go wrong, and any one of them could wind up costing hundreds of dollars. Which mean you need to do a lot of research on each part to know which mean *HOMEWORK*! So, there is a lot of thing that pc builders never told you which in my view is a very disrespect on any community.

    • @lineage254
      @lineage254 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +linkzellda If you have a monitor most of the time you dont need speakers if you dont have screwdrivers well i dont know what you do in your life most houses have one, chairs? just get 1 in your house (or you dont have chairs either?) you dont need a cpu cooler unless you are overclocking your cpu you also dont need an ssd or thermal paste, all in all you can make a better pc with the money that a console cost and if you dont want to do your homework then pc is not for you is that simple.

    Would just like to say, this has saved my life in terms of building my custom gaming rig (I'm upgrading an old computer and when I looked inside it just looked like a mutated jigsaw puzzle) so definitely give this a watch; it may be a bit long but look at some of the other PC building videos on the right and you will see that this is pretty condensed.

    So after you wipe the CPU and heatsink down with rubbing alcohol... do you just leave it there? Let it dry? Go at it wet? Wipe it off with a paper towel?

    I saw research that agree's with you... spreading leaves and uneven finish and as such air gets trapped as micro bubbles which gives you less contact area. The best way was actually to use a small x shape using the same amount as the pea shape. This gave the best distribution across the chip and like the pea eliminates the possibility of trapped air.

    Yes. Almost if not all normal cases can take 3.5" HDDs. I wouldn't go for that case personally because it looks a little cramped inside but if you're ok with that then go for it; it looks pretty sweet and has good cooling.

  • @lgeiger
    @lgeiger 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Spreading the thermal paste is not necessary and often leads to higher CPU temperatures because there can be air bubbles between the CPU and the cooler. The easiest and best way to do it is the pea-, line- or x-application. Don't use too much thermal grease. A little pea in the middle is enough. Like he said in the video. The pressure of the colling unit will do the spreading for you and the heat sink is actually 2 or 3 times bigger than the actual CPU inside. That's why it's not necessary to spread the thermal paste to cover the complete heat sink. There are many videos on youtube. Just search for "thermal paste" and click onto the first
    This is a great video. These new cases are just so much better. My old NZXT Apollo doesn't even have a hole in the back, so I replacing the cooler with a different one would require removing the board... I thought about cutting a hole in there myself, but I am not going to replace any parts in the near future and if I will build a new PC one day, I'm just going to buy a new case. That's no fun, it's really annoying and I really recommend buying a case with cable management and a hole in the back which is big enough to provide an easy access like the case in the video. It makes thing much much MUCH easier.

    Nice video!
    Now I'm excited about putting a pc together. I'm still slightly on the fence about simply buying a Digitalstorm pc, but I realize that if I buy all the parts and build a pc myself, it'll have way better parts, for less.

    A good Note for the Intel Socket.. the little black Plastic guard over the CPU socket can be left on. When you install the CPU and then proceed to close the black plastic guard will just pop right off. :D

    Very, very nice video, this answers a lot of questions beginning PC builders might have. This would've helped me the first time I built a PC completely from scratch, a few years ago!
    Nice filming and narrating, this must've taken a lot of time to make.
    BTW, I didn't realize BIOSes have improved so much since a few years back; full color, mouse support and all!

    Depends on that, if the heatsink or a liquid cooler have it installed before, but if it doesn't then yes you have to do that. Avoiding attaching thermal compound will end up frying your cpu and may damage the cpu or motherboard pernamently. (I suggest you to put it on the CPU)

    Sometimes it will say on the card itself but otherwise you can go in Steam, go to the "Help" tab, then to system information. Scroll down and under the section titled "Video Card" your video card should be the first thing listed.
