A man with a degree in computer engineering and 15 years of field experience: "I don't pretend to be a know-it-all, but if you learn a thing or two, that's great." **continues to teach 4.6 million people how to build a pc** You sir, are the most humble man i have ever seen. Thank you for your time and help! ^^
My teacher is so lazy. She put your video on to teach us instead of teaching us herself. I'm excited to do the practical next week. Thanks for the vid, it was v.useful
Nice power supply. Whatever you do, never go cheap on the power supply. It's the most critical component as it controls all the voltages fed to your motherboard, etc. Use a line conditioner/voltage regulator or UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to suppress electrical power spikes and/or provide backup power during blackouts so you can safely shut down your computer. Power spikes and sags destroy power supplies and shorten the life of components. Use air conditioning in the room with the computer during summer. I've been building computers since 1999. Easy to do but never, ever go cheap on the power supply.
Glad to know that when I start building my PC I'll have you here to walk me through it, as well as some additional help in the comments. TH-cam needs more people like you. Thanks man.
I just want to say thank you. I have absolutely no computer experience and was just able to completely build my computer in less than 3 hours thanks to this video. You the man
My first build I killed my motherboard with static.. Very easy to do in a dry climate like in New Mexico or California. Also one time I forgot to peel off the plastic off the CPU heatsink base, but good thing I saw the thermals and immediately turned off the PC and checked it.
Videos like this is what led me to dive into the teck behind my computer. During High school I manage to save up money for my own build. Now this has turned into a sort of hobby of mine that I am taking into my own profession. when I read some of these comments they remind me of how it all started. Great work.
I'm buying the parts for a budget gaming computer (will have everything in January). I will admit, seeing all the wires intimidated me to the point I was having second thoughts. Thankfully I found this guide. It's a lot less intimidating.
I'm a CIS major, right now they have me mainly focusing on software, even though I've been spending tons of time looking into hardware, anyway, this was a great video, I learned quite a bit from it, so cheers!
I am 12 and I really do know alot about building computers. right now I'm building a computer for my grandma and there is like only 3 things I didn't really know how to do. I came here and that helped me thanks
As someone who is a game lover but had ZERO PC building experience I wanted to write this comment as a customer who has now built his first PC using this video as well as EasyPCBuilder’s written guide. EasyPCBuilder explains everything in easy to understand terms that non-computer engineers will understand, while at the same time explaining why each part is important and why you need to know about it. I was able to customize exactly what kind of build I wanted, along with some extra flare that the guide suggested. The hassle of buying parts is completely eliminated with the direct links to each part included in the purchased guide. For 8ish dollars and over 100 pages of information I cant tell you how good of a buy this guide is. I now feel confident that I can come back to this guide in several years when I need to upgrade my current rig in order to purchase updated parts and read up on new changes. I should also say Brett was very helpful when I inquired with questions I had during the actual build process. Thanks for the awesome experience EasyPCBuilder.
Used this to help me build my first gaming rig. For anyone who is using this video, if you don't think he is addressing the question you have, just wait and he will most likely get to it in a later part of the video. I was confused about the power supply cables, and was frustrated when he just screwed in the PSU without explaining the cables, but he did later in the video and everything made sense.
I'm fourteen and a freshman and in my eyes, your living the dream... Is your job worth it? because ever since i was 12 i've wanted to build computers as a way to make $$
I usually don't comment positive or negative reviews on people's videos (just a lot of shitposting), but this was the most informative how-to I've ever seen. You were concise, you put everything into easy to understand terms, and after watching your video I'm confident that I can build mine tonight when just an hour ago I thought I'd need outside help from an experienced friend.
I have a question. I was telling my dad yesterday about how we should use an Anti-Static wrist strap when building the pc to avoid shortening the life of the parts. He told me "Why don't we just use rubber gloves?" Is this a stupid idea or a smart way to save money?
Thank you Brett! 4 years later and this guide is still helping people, just built my first pc today following this video & I'm writing the comment from it
I'm about to build my first pc and your video will be of great help. It really is one of the most comprehensive video tutorials I've seen so far (and I've seen a lot of them since I decided to do it myself). Thank you very much!
All what I can say that you are the best professional IT I ever seen! Why? Because you choose the simplest words to deliver it to watchers without trying to be an actor like others. This 30 minutes video much better than many hours I wasted watching other videos in same category. Thank you very much my master :)
I've been building PC's for a long time, about 12 years actually. This is a great video that I recommend to some clients that want to build their first PC's. Good stuff, and explained very well guys. PS- I also have forgotten the backing plate a couple times lmao, simple mistake that everyone makes
It's been a ton of years since I built my last PC, and I must say, you are by far the most thorough instructor. Even someone with little computer experience should be able to successfully build their own system. I go way back to 1986 with computers and was with FidoNet prior to the existence of the web. Absolutely great instruction!
This video is very good. I like the way he explains exactly what he is doing, and why. After watching this i will deffenetly like to have a go at building my own PC. Very good explnation of what to do and how to do it.
Very helpful video! Just two remarks: - if your table conducts electricity its OK to connect your wrist wrap cable to the PC housing otherwise it is better to connect it to a 0V point on the motherboard. - you should add that when you install two memory sticks, to place them in DIMM 2 and 4 connector (both bleu on your board) See someones question below.
+Caleb Mckenzie Hey mate, have a bit more of a read here, this FAQ details static protection: easypcbuilder.com/frequently-asked-questions/ Regards, Brett
i have not done extensive searching on youtube yet but so far this is a one of a kind all around helpful video for pc building that isnt going too fast or acting as if its an infant watching. 10/10 video.
Gonna stick this in my favourites. I've bought a PC which comes in a relatively small case. I'm presuming I'll just reverse these steps to take out of the existing case, and then follow the steps to fit into the new case?
I literally knew nothing about this, and am just currently looking into it. Thank you so much for this video. Very well done, and very well explained. Seriously very helpful.
I'm actually planning to build a PC in about 1-2 weeks. I already put the parts list together and going to order the parts soon. Your PC building guide is amazing and I understand the steps clearly and it doesn't look as hard as people make it out to be. Your guide is very straight forward and makes a lot of sense.
Thanks much for this video- this quick video gave me the confidence that I could do it. I feel achieved building my 1st PC (i7 8700k, MSI SLI Plus Z370, GSKILL 16 GB RAM, 500 GB EVO SSD, CPU cooler Corsair 212 EVO, Cooler master PRO RGB, EVGA GOLD 650W, GTX 1060 6GB).
Your motherboard will come in a box alongside a user guide/manual. The manual has just about every piece of information that you need to build a PC. The manual also shows you how to mount the motherboard into the case but that's about it. However every piece of hardware you get (CPU, Ram, Graphics card, Hard drive, Power Supply, CPU cooler etc etc) will come with a manual as well. Those manuals also have all the necessary information AND how to install the piece of hardware.
Everything you need to know about it. From what cables need to be plugged where, identifying what every port is on it, polarity of cables, locations of ports, basically everything about the motherboard xD
Update: Got my parts and my computer is now built. This guide really helped out so much. I will admit, I will still a little scared (especially with the PSU part, I thought I was going to break my motherboard). I got a little lost a few times, but then I remembered this guide and I was done in a couple of hours. Once again, Thank you so much. :)
I just built my first yesterday, with little to no prior experience handling expensive electronics. My greatest fear was putting in the money (roughly $1300) and then the build not working. If you follow his steps, purchase parts that are compatible with each other, and use the manuals, then you can bet on success. When I hit the power button and watched my 10 hours of work come to life, it was supremely rewarding!
As someone who made a few noob mistakes building my first rig, I can tell you it's fine build your own system. Several foolproof safeties are there to protect the noob builder. Just watch this video carefully, take your time and make sure to prevent static discharge, especially if standing on carpet (it's explained in the video). Once you see how easy it is, you will never go back.
I'm 14 years old turning 15 soon. building my first ever computer and I want to get into this for a career. I'm into gaming and I can't wait.. my PC costs $500 and I just bought it with my own money. this tutorial helped me a lot. and I already ordered my stuff.
Thank you for your well thought out, thorough video. I am seriously considering building my first computer. Today I purchased your $1200 gaming PC guide, but I would also like a PC that can easily handle rendering video. Do you have a guide available for a build that can do both and if so which one is it? I'm good at following explicit instructions, so I think between the video and the written instructions in the guide I can do it, I'm just very concerned about getting the best parts that are compatible. Also, I would like to have a dual monitor set-up - does this have to be factored into the graphics card? I appreciate your help!
You're a lifesaver! I recently ordered my rig from a website (won't mention their name) and they didn't plug in a couple cables. This as you would expect led me to believe their were some issue with the build all together. Anyway, your informative video helped me figure out my coolant was never plugged into the motherboard leaving my cpu at extremely hot temperatures. Thanks again!
If I decide to leave my computer without a side panel on (Of course there would be a lot of dust collection) would my computer be cooler since more air is in contact with my computer depending on my room temperature, or would it do the opposite? Also would the fans on my computer be more effective since there is more space for the blown air to travel?
This video is wonderful! I'm planning to build my own desktop and this video removed a lot of my fear about approaching this task. Being able to recognize what goes where is a valuable asset.
OK when I got my case with a built-in power supply my power cable the thing that connects to the power button only has 2 pins is there such things as a two pin connector for a power button
Toak_Spike ᵀᵒᵃᴷ ᴳʳᵃᵖʰᶦᶜ ᴰᵉˢᶦᵍᶰᵉʳ Yes, most will only have the two pin connection to the motherboard from the case switch. This just closes a connection on the motherboard, so it does not supply power etc.
Thank you so much for this how to video, with out it I truly would not of been able to build my first PC. This is by far the best video on YT for learning step by step how to build a PC.. it'll have you at the end like "No way it was that easy" Is it a perfect video, no, it leaves you hanging on a few things but hey its good to not have your hand held completely or you don't learn anything. Thanks again!
I've never built a PC before but I've taken apart my pre built computer and put it back together more times than I can count, I hope that means something.
I had a Lenovo AIO pc a week ago. And it blew up. The hard disk and the sata connector are burnt and the technician says there's some damage to the motherboard as well. I know this is stupid, but I'm planning to get a new one or go for my FIRST EVER build instead of repairing my old one (It's a 4 year old model). I'm seriously very nervous. Is there anyway that you can send me a link to some course or something over the internet which is free and teaches computer hardware (at least as much a computer builder should know)? Please, I don't wanna mess up my first build and get kicked out of my house for that!
hey, im a noob when it comes to PC, but i know most of the good parts. but this is my question, do i really need a sound card. in this vid he dosn have a sound card if im right?
Ok so few questions for the techy guys who really know a lot about computers and hardware. 1. Say i build my own PC, how good would the PC be if i put $1000-$1300 to it? (Giving example of some games and graphic quality would be a nice visual measure for me) 2. How much would a professional cost to build the PC for me? Thanks in advance.

Still one of the best of building tutorials in 2015
Made it simple but I will probably need to watch it a couple of times before I attempt to build my beast gaming PC

I had no idea what I was doing until I watched this and now I have got mine to work. THANK YOU. You earned a like mate.
ScaroHawk Thanks for the feedback buddy - it's much appreciated.
Wow, this is good info because I am getting somebody all the parts to build a PC this Christmas and I'll be expected to help him do the assembly!

I rlly want a gaming PC. Here is the problem... I'm a 12 year old who can't even build a table.

+EasyPCbuilder absolutely! This guide is going help me build my first PC.
+EasyPCbuilder just finished my first PC build thanks to this video! The Cooler is a lot harder to install than I thought!
Very helpful video! Just two remarks:
- if your table conducts electricity its OK to connect your wrist wrap cable to the PC housing otherwise it is better to connect it to a 0V point on the motherboard.
- you should add that when you install two memory sticks, to place them in DIMM 2 and 4 connector (both bleu on your board) See someones question below.

have you ever messed up a pc because of static electricity
Yes, I did tonight. I blew up my motherboard while upgrading the ram.
Nice build my friend, my only problem is upgrading, how should I handle the motherboard when I am replacing a processor and/or graphics card?
This is one of the most informative PC building guides online that I have seen in a long time. Cheers for the people at EasyPcBuilder!
When you get a motherboard does it come with a manual? If so then what information would it hold?
Your motherboard will come in a box alongside a user guide/manual. The manual has just about every piece of information that you need to build a PC. The manual also shows you how to mount the motherboard into the case but that's about it.

Yeah it tells you all of that 👍
Everything you need to know about it. From what cables need to be plugged where, identifying what every port is on it, polarity of cables, locations of ports, basically everything about the motherboard xD
Your motherboard will come with a manual which doubles as an installation guide.
I don't know if this is a dumb question but when you build your pc how do you get your os system perfeably windows 10

Building my first PC today and honestly I'm scared to do it.
The main thing I'm worried about is messing up bad when I build my first PC. Seems easy, but I don't like the idea of putting $700+ on the line :/
Do it. You won't regret it

Does it matter which slot you install the ram into
There is a configuration called 'dual channel' configuration - have a look at our FAQ here: easypcbuilder.com/frequently-asked-questions/
If you going for Dual Channel, there is.
Yeah, on the motherboard manual, it will tell you which slots you will fill first

what if you put a ram stick into every ram slot or do you only use two of the four
This video is wonderful! I'm planning to build my own desktop and this video removed a lot of my fear about approaching this task. Being able to recognize what goes where is a valuable asset.
Does it matter which ram slot u put the ram in?
OK when I got my case with a built-in power supply my power cable the thing that connects to the power button only has 2 pins is there such things as a two pin connector for a power button
Toak_Spike ᵀᵒᵃᴷ ᴳʳᵃᵖʰᶦᶜ ᴰᵉˢᶦᵍᶰᵉʳ Yes, most will only have the two pin connection to the motherboard from the case switch. This just closes a connection on the motherboard, so it does not supply power etc.
OK also how do you know if you have USB 2.0 on your case I can't seem to find any info on it on Amazon when I bought it
Thank you so much for this how to video, with out it I truly would not of been able to build my first PC.
Baron - it does. It's a great start!
Thats easy!Just wait till you get to the Windows part!

+EasyPCbuilder ive seen pc without sata but use only ssd. is that ok?
Thats even easier
Thank u for being calm and best of all no annoying music in the background like some of these guys play so distracting!!!!
How good did this build play club penguin?
1 maybe 2 fps if your lucky
Super Duper Ultra settings
Got kicked out before we could benchmark it!
I just built a new rig in 2016 and the advice is still solid. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Would 400w be enough for 750 ti?
great teacher
+mahendra solanki Thanks Mahendra
Thanks for explaining the power connectors, nearly every other video I watched brushed it under the carpet.
I did everything fine. Until the cable management. It got so bad that i simply gave up and stuffed the wires as best as i could away from the fans.
hey, im a noob when it comes to PC, but i know most of the good parts. but this is my question, do i really need a sound card. in this vid he dosn have a sound card if im right?
It makes sense why this video has over 4.5 million views. It's so helpful!
Ok so few questions for the techy guys who really know a lot about computers and hardware.
1. Say i build my own PC, how good would the PC be if i put $1000-$1300 to it? (Giving example of some games and graphic quality would be a nice visual measure for me)
2. How much would a professional cost to build the PC for me?
Thanks in advance.
Does this still work for 2016?
Absolutely - everything is still relevant, we'll do a new video when a major item changes
Thanks
was really worried about building a pc for the first time but after watching this i feel alot better :) Thank you
