  • Can a Christian use swear words? Is cussing a sin? What does the Bible say about swearing? Scripture certainly has a lot to say about the power of language, and that power goes far beyond 4 letter words. In this video, Jon discusses the power that language has to build and destroy, while answering yet another question on Christian behavior.

i personally think cursing AT people could be considered a sin as youre trying to bring people down and hurt them, but yelling a curse word when you stub your toe is fine. depends on the context

Thank you soo much for this video!!! It frustrates me soo much that people think cussing is so wrong, but complaining & gossiping are not. That bugs me so much. So thankful you made this video.

What I gathered from this is that the words themselves are fine under the right context. If you use words like f*ck, sh*t and d*mn in ways not meant to brung people down, I think it’s okay. The words themselves can be used under the right context, because in the end of the day they’re just words like the rest. The point is to not use these words to bring people down with them. I think saying these words are just about not bringing people down with them. Don’t say the words offensively, use them as to not discourage others. Thanks for clarifying 🙏

I hate when people start harassing a christian for swearing but they don't care about someone lying, or gossip! It makes no sense.

Yes I was reading Ephesians 4:29 and it reminds me that cussing is not very good this is the reason why I thank Jesus Christ because I don't cuss anymore

Honestly cussing shouldn’t be considered a sin, I’ll tell you why because ok can change meanings and intentions on how you use it. You can encourage someone having a cuss word in it. Many pastors that are strong faith cuss because it gives an effect.

Swearing is bad. Cussing isn't. There are a few Hebrew words that are forbidden. But unless you curse someone, "I hope you trip and fall". Or swearing at someone, it isn't technically bad.

Brother this is some good stuff. I love it, choosing words to build a person up, not knock them down.

    1. Are these words good for building up?

Depends on the context and how you use them. Also depends on how you're raised. I was raised in a "non-swearing" household, but felt free when I finally said some for-letter words out of expression of frustration. Beats punching a hole in a wall or holding in your anger. Just one loud F-bomb made me feel better.

I tend to swear by accident but whenever i do, God always reminds me that there is so many kind words and expressions i can choose from and swearing when sudden situations, i realised it doesnt change anything at all it doesnt make anything or feels better.

Thank you for addressing this with a bigger approach than just saying "yay" or "nay". I do think as Christians we need to think bigger and ask bigger questions. I've been getting really nuts about how normal it has become to hear God's name used in cursing (blasphemy), yet how awkward people can be about talking about God and His love. It is all belly up. Your channel comforts me and seeing how many people talk about God in the comments makes me feel a lot less lonely :) Thanks mr!

cussing has a lot to do with where you are from too. I'm from Jamaica and a can remember talking to some of my American friends and I used two particular words and they were maaaaaaaaad because to them it is a curse word but to us in Jamaica it is not. The entire situation was awkward.

Jon, the Lord has blessed you with an incredible talent brother. What your videos have done for me, I don't have the words, but know that God has blessed you tenfold for it. Brother, I'm Catholic, and as a follower of Christ, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I teach 7th grade kids at my church and believe me, they're going to watch this video! Anyway, I just want you to know that your videos are reaching just about everywhere so keep it up. With God, everything is possible. Continue praying for all of Christianity to unite. I love you brother and God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
