I used to cuss a lot. One day my boss said, “cussing is a sign of a weak mind trying to express itself forcefully”. I stopped the next day.

Not sure if I totally understand. You say that perhaps this individual hasn’t truly obeyed the gospel, and I agree that could possibly be the reason he continues using curse words. While that may be true, I do know that the apostle Paul writes in Romans 7: 14 - 24 that he continues to struggle with sin, and that the good he desires to do he does not. I just feel that once we obey the gospel all our bad habits do not just instantly disappear, although I may be wrong. Still trying to understand myself. Sometimes something that’s supposed to be so simple seems very complex.

I beg to differ, and here is why... I have a real bad problem with "cursing/cursing" and it has NOTHING to do with whats in my heart. It stems ( at least with me ) from what i heard as a child and not having an education in language I.E a household that used 4 letter words and mother with a 9th grade education and NO father, a lack of discipline and love. I believe this is an evil spirit that possesses us. It is extremely difficult to break through it at least for me. I've had so many aggravating jobs that I get aggravated real easily and then I start swearing. I may just imagine the worst of the worst of everything piling up on you every day for 50 years and that's the aggravation I have to work around I know Jesus is going to redeem me from it I just don't know when, as followers of Christ we have to work on the sins that invade us. My faith in Christ will be stronger than my urge to swear, because I'm covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. We have a blood covenant together.

number one rule ...quit watching tv....television/movies promote swearing...also try to substitute a curse word with a different word....you can substitute on F word for instance by saying Rats...you'd have to experiment but just always be aware of your speech and it'll help....also if you watch tv or movies...my rule is if within two or three minutes of a movie there is already cursing then i already know the whole movie will be filled with curse words.......notice some movies will have a seen where you'll here 5 minutes of pure F bombs...movies like that you need to turn off......the more you stay away from being around those words the less you'll use them.. but being around them so much will just sneak into your vocabulary.

Changing bad habits only happens with help from the Holy Spirit. Putting all the effort on people only to have them continue to mess up makes them give up thinking it will never happen. Seek the holy spirits help and when you make a mistake receive Gods grace and forgiveness and continue seeking the Holy Spirit while confessing you are the righteousness of God through Christ. The desire will leave for some immediately and for others with time. Don’t give up!

Acts 2:38 NIV - Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I believe the use of profanity is a sign of deep anger and rage. When my mother passed away when I was 19, others around me noticed I was suddenly cursing, which I never did before. God helped me over the years to cope with her passing...and convicted me to stop the profanity. But I have taken notice that people who curse heavily almost do so with an angry growl in their voice. Even if they curse in casual conversation, there tone of voice gives off that same vibe of anger.

I was raised during the era where fathers told their sons "stop your crying or I'll give you something to really cry about". In so doing, I learned along with my friends not to express feelings, but to hide them. That's what the tough guys do, right? The problem being that feeling hurt made me uncomfortable and that turned to anger which is OK for a "tough guy" to express, so long as it's done verbally and not physically. While not expressly taught to "cuss", I saw other men model it and in time it became a kind of emotional punctuation in my speech. That being my experience, as often as I hear someone "cuss", I regard them as someone who just needs to be more honest about what they're feeling and better at expressing themselves. That's made me less critical and more empathetic. In terms of curing myself of cussing, learning to cry again has been a big help. Crying is a far more honest response to the uncomfortable feelings that once drove me to cuss. I suppose it could be said that cussing is a dishonest expression of what I was feeling in as much as it was rooted in secondary (reactionary) anger over the primary feelings of hurt, sad, disappointment, frustration, loss ... etc. A scripture that seems to support what I'm saying is found in Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

I struggled a lot too but the way I was able to do it was to confess openly to friends and co workers that I was now a Christian (it was hard but I had to do it) and that allowed me to live up to the expectations that people have towards Christians. A lot of small prayers throughout the day asking God for help and eventually over time it became natural to me. Thanks to God I never ever curse anymore, even when sometimes I have thoughts about saying a curse I quickly suppress it and rebuke it.

I developed an immoral mouth and cussing habit when I was twelve. I am twenty seven now and saved by Jesus about two years.
I have become sincerely convicted of my filthy language and have grown more sensitive to hearing how distasteful it sounds coming from others. Only to point my own finger back at me saying: GUILTY.
I pray to the Lord to purify me of this sin and confess to him that I am wrong and he is right. Super grateful for videos like this to assist me in my walk in growing more conformed to Christ.
Let us pray and admonish one another as believers in all our trespasses against the Lord and continue to develop the inner man. It is the will of of God that his people be sanctified. Let’s lift each other up and be holy for our God is holy. Peace and love to all of you in the name of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 12:36 and Colosians 3:8. It does all begin with being born again and the Lord will change your heart and your mind, then your language will change. Phil shared some good verses also. Matt 12:36 really hit home with me early on after trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thoughts of standing before God giving an account for every word that I speak is a chilling thought. Now my sins were forgiven on Sept 14, 1991 but God surely will recount our lives lived for him after we are saved.

I heard my Grandpa say only one cuss word...ever. As young lads my brother and I were on the farm were flying these cheap airplanes when one landed on a stack of alfalfa bales that resembled an Egyptian pyramid of sorts. We decided that rather than wait for grandpa to retrieve the toy, we would just climb up and get it ourselves. Lo and behold just as soon as we got to the top...here comes grandpa from the house! He immediately yelled at us "Damn it! Get down!" We KNEW we were in trouble! Of course he was the absolute kindest of souls but my brother and I never crossed that line again. And I do my best not to use cuss words to this day. And I am now 63 with all the love and respect for him.

I’m sure if it was remotely possible he would share his time with most but it’s impossible to do so. This man is a rare individual but in the end he owes it all to God. I am inspired.
