  • Mario games aren't platformers--they're elaborate role-play. We're delving into the twisted psyche of Princess Peach with the help of Ms. Pac-Man, kidnappers-for-hire, and Walt Disney. And PS. Super Mario Bros. 3? NEVER HAPPENED!

    So Mario is a murderous psychopath, Luigi has a real dark side, Bowser is a disturbed single parent, Peach has Stockholm syndrome, Rosalina is Luigi's and Peach's daughter from an alternate universe, and Toad is a murderous fungi.
    The Mario universe sure has problems. If only they did Yoshi.

    She does not have bipolar disorder. She has DMDD. DMDD is basically bipolar disorder but instead of having highs and lows that last a day, people with DMDD usually switch moods within seconds, which makes her a clear candidate for it.

    • @saraw2419
      @saraw2419 6 ปีที่แล้ว +73

      Or Borderline. DMDD is a good candidate based off of what info is given to us, however I think the attachment issues Peach seems to have is more indicative of Borderline.

    Where I agree that Peach has Stockholm syndrome I disagree elsewhere: Belle hasn't got Stockholm syndrome but the Beast has got Lima syndrome aka the opposite; captors fall in love with their victims and feel bad for their actions, sound familiar? Belle is only nice to the beast after he literally saves her life and she does argue her point even after that, the Beast let's her go (his only chance at returning to normal EVER) and she leaves immediately. If she had Stockholm then she wouldn't have left or she'd take her dad back to the castle. She fully intended to never go back since the Beast gave her the mirror as a way to remember them, his ONLY mirror to the outside world.
    I know this video was about Peach but this section got under my skin, obviously.

    So I don’t want to go nitpicking here but belle was not affected by Stockholm syndrome. Her captor (the beast) did not treat her poorly, they had dinner and read books. Moreover, the beast gives her the option to go back to the town. The hunchback of Notre Dam is a better example of this. The hunchbacks captor is preventing him from going outside and enjoying himself so that his captor doesn’t have to face humiliation. An even better example would be Repunzel In tangled. Mother Gothel doesn’t let repunzel go outside and when repunzel if finally goes outside she begins regretting her decisions because of Stockholm syndrome. Thanks for listening to my little rant.

    • @exist_much5625
      @exist_much5625 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It doesn't matter what your captor does to you. They are still holding you there against your will. You could be kidnapped by an old lady who just wants someone to talk to, but it's still kidnapping. Kidnapping is kidnapping. What the captor does to you doesn't change anything. The people in Stockholm became friends with their captors because their captors were nice. Saying that it's not Stockholm Syndrome, just someone holding you against your will and you liking it is the most contradictory thing I've ever heard.

    • @greyscaleanon7551
      @greyscaleanon7551 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@exist_much5625 Fair point, but probably the most important argument I've heard against the Belle has Stockholm Syndrome theory is that she never loses her defiance of the Beast when he's being a jerk. She doesn't stay there because she's emotionally invested in his wants or needs, she stays because she promised to in exchange for her father's freedom. And when given the opportunity to leave, she doesn't hesitate to do so. Most importantly, she never makes excuses for his actions. If he does something rude or cruel, she calls him out on that. That's very distinctly not Stockholm Syndrome. Unimportant Human didn't explain it very well, but his/her/their conclusion is sound. Also, yeah, HoND and Tangled are ABSOLUTELY examples of Stockholm Syndrome.

    There's a different disorder for Peach. Similar to bipolar but its most noticeable difference: how frequent and severe the mood swings are. Its called borderline personality disorder. Example: bipolar disorder- depressed for month, manic for a month. Borderline personality disorder- depressed, manic, blinding rage, and hysteria all in a few hours with the right circumstance and severe enough case. Also a big difference: bipolar disorder is a genetic disorder. And while it is more common to have borderline personality disorder if you have another mental disorder, it is more the end result of trauma, difficult childhoods, abuse, or things like getting kidnapped frequently by a giant turtle/dinosaur. Sound familiar?

    • @dejaypage1575
      @dejaypage1575 9 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Not to mention she isn't scared of the beast, getting into arguments with him. Plus she's not a hostage, she was a prisoner. Matt forgot one little detail.
      The Beast. Is. A. Prince.
      Meaning he has the right to put trespassers into the dungeon if they come into his castle without permission. And Belle took her dad's place as the prisoner to make up for her fathers trespassing on his property. And he treated her more as a guest than a prisoner: giving her the choice to sleep in a nice room, have good food, etc. it's more like a VERY odd hotel than a prison, given that he can let her go whenever he wants. Heck, he let her off her sentence when he finds out her father is sick and needs help.
      Tell me...does THAT sound like Stockholm Syndrome or kidnapping to anyone else?

    • @dejaypage1575
      @dejaypage1575 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      ***** Exactly. Stockholm syndrome comes from those who treat their person AS a prisoner, yes, but tell me; do prisoners at a normal prison get stockholm syndrome to the guards? No? Then that's the same thing here.
      And that's what I am saying: Beast isn't treating her as a prisoner at all. That's the main thing: Even though she is CALLED a prisoner, she is treated nothing like one. He gave her a nice room, invited her to dinner, allowed her to roam HIS HOUSE except for where he sleeps (The west Wing) and allows her to ask for the services of Beast's own staff.

      Dejay Page Yes! I can't freaking stand when they say that Belle has Stockholm Syndrome, or that the entire movie is about Stockholm Syndrome. They just want to make conspiracies and shit over Disney without thinking through their theories.

    • @dejaypage1575
      @dejaypage1575 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      kasig2013 NOT to mention she could literally have left on the FIRST DAY! Remember when the wolves attacked? yeah, that was literally her FIRST OFFICIAL day at the castle! All she had to do was ride off since the Beast DID say 'get out', which can be easily exploited to 'leave the castle'. BUT since Beast saved her from the wolves (Since, HI, being there for so long, I think he knew that they were there) and passed out from the fight. So Belle only went back because the Beast, despite being a jerk, saved her. SO...that was more of a sign of graditude than genuine kindness. It was only WHEN he started being nice was when a connection was starting to get there. It wasn't when the two were yelling at each other, it was when Beast and Belle were actually starting to BOND over the library, the breakfast scene (where the two DRANK the breakfast since Beast was having a hard time) and the like.

    Wow I just realised how deep the true plot of Mario really is (I've seen pretty much every gametheory episode about it so far)
    Spoilers to the true story
    Story:It all starts with bowser being a orphan taken in by a wizard who shows him his ways.
    Meanwhile the mushroom kingdom is in peace until the evil peach disgued as toadstool (if spelt correctly) decides to attack the mushroom kingdom the natives get run out of their homes and look to Bowser for help.Bowser decides to help them as he want to become a hero.Peach hearing of this hires the services of one Mario.When Mario's brother,Luigi asked him if he could come to Mario refuses and forces him to stay home.Bowser decides to push back the toads so they don't infect any natives but the toads fight back with their leader Mario fighting to win over the mushroom kingdom.
    That's how it all started
    But hey it's just a theory

    Mushroom guy: yup! I'm on my way!
    Mario: time to go to my world and eat a bunch of mushrooms and jump on turtles!
    That's probably why Mario doesn't say anything about peach getting kidnapped all the time.

    I'm not sure Belle had Stockholm Syndrome. In the story, the Beast does several things to earn her respect and love such as saving her life, showing her kindness and proving he isn't actually a "beast" but just misunderstood.
    Not to mention she wasn't exactly being held captive in the most unpleasant of conditions. I mean, she was being kept in an enchanted castle where her every need and want was being attended to.
    The reason why most captives develop Stockholm syndrome isn't because they actually like their captives or even begin to understand them, it's actually a defense mechanism triggered by the urge to survive. The subconscious logic behind it is who are your captors more likely to kill? A captive who fights them and is a problem for them or someone who supports what they are doing and has managed to endear themselves to them? The answer is simple. They are going to kill the problem captive. So, what happens without the captive realizing is their brains begin to rationalize and even sympathize with their captors cause in order to stay alive. Think of it as your brain's fail-safe to try and keep you from shooting off your mouth around the lunatics with guns so they don't shoot it off for you.

    Belle is not a sufferer of Stockholm syndrome. She /offers/ herself, she wasn't /forced/ to stay, there was nothing keeping her there- she was even told to get out. She even LEFT BY HER OWN WILL.
    She warmed up to him because he showed her that he wasn't just a beast. She escaped and he followed her and protected her from wolves- allowing her to see he wasn't a bad person- the cutlery even tells her that the Beast was always a bit of a jerk, but he could warm up.

    • @Mousekins
      @Mousekins 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** "Stockholm syndrome, or capture-bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness."
      Belle did not like the beast at first, the Beast was never physically violent, he never made any attempt to hurt her physically except when she entered his room. He was not even psychologically harming her, he was doing nothing to hurt her in any way, despite him having every right to (considering the villagers usual stance on him).
      She BEGGED him so that she could stay, she was never truly a captive, she could have left if she so wanted to, and he even gave her the option to return home-- he let her go.
      He defended her, He protected her, He cared for her and he opened up to her. Belle does not suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.
      She defends him because she knew BETTER than that, she knew he was kind because of how he acted around her- he fed birds, he protected her from wolves, and he generally opened up to him.
      He let her into his Library not as a tactic to make her stay, but as thanks for her not being an almighty jerk and leaving, for her kindness and compassion.
      ... I'd go into more detail but at this point people are TL;DRing
      TL;DR Belle is not a victim of stockholm syndrome, watch the film again, and this time pay attention.

Peach does not suffer Bipolar Disorder, but Borderline Disorder, Medical Bipolar Disorder actually requires at least 2 weeks (if I remember) in a single emotion and then suddenly change to another one for kind of the same amount of time, while Borderline Disorder causes that the patient changes drastically from an emotion to another within little amount of time, could be even minutes, and the patient also keep changing from one emotion to another constantly

      I understand frensh , took a look into their service , seen the juridic part , from what they said , it's acctualy totaly legal they also have lawyer who helped them to make this legal , apparaintly they have some condition , health condition for example....and if its in Frensh , I don't think they would acctualy have stayed if it was illegal , they are realy strict about this kind of things.
      So everything combine I think that it's legal , but hey it's just a theory , A GAME THEORY (real life game)
      I don't know why he calls that "underground service" , I was able to access it normaly using chrome , everything seemed fine , so I don't know we he call it like that.....

    Wait so all the kidnapping is staged. But I thought Bowser was an enemy of the Toads and is just protecting Peach. Oh, but no because Mario is actually killing Toads. But it's all staged so they're just faking. But he's mental. But he might not be Jumpman. But Jumpman's adventure might have been staged.

      No, here's how it's all coming together (maybe). Peach doesn't have stockholm syndrome at all, that's a misinterpretation. She's obsessed with the thrill of being kidnapped, but she doesn't love Bowser himself. She, and Mario, are using him as well as the rest of the kingdom.
      The first kidnapping was real. Bowser saw Peach and was instantly smitten. He knew she was the love of his life and meant to be the mother of his children. At first he admired from afar, but then he realized what the toads were and saw that she was in danger. But, what he hadn't realized was that she had long ago gained control over the toads. They would never harm her or those she deemed worthy of keeping safe. So, Bowser decided to steal her away for what he thought was her own safety. Then Mario jumped in and saved the day.
      That was how it started, Peach realized how much she loved the thrill of being kidnapped and Mario became obsessed with the ego boost he got from playing hero. So, of course, they needed it to happen again. To get that thrill. So, Peach got in touch with Bowser. She started leading him on, convincing him to stage kidnappings, each time hinting that it would be the last. This time she'll stay, this time she'll be the wife and mother he wants her to be. It never happens of course, but he's desperate, so every time she asks for him to stage another kidnapping he does. Holding on to that little bit of hope that it will be the last time.
      The toads are really being killed, they're nothing but casualties to Peach and Mario. Peach wants the cheap thrill and isn't above leading on someone who is desperately in love with her. Mario loves the ego boost and if some toads have to die for him to get his jollies, so be it. Bowser, he's just a poor hopeless romantic. Putting on the hammy villain act, hoping he can eventually gain Peach's true love and provide a mother for the children he loves.
      But hey, it's just a theory...A GAME THEORY!

    Experiencing extreme fluctuations of mood in a matter of seconds is NOT typically a symptom of bipolar disorder. Bipolar is marked by a GRADUAL increase or decrease in mood over a CONSISTENT interval of time. It takes weeks to months for a bipolar patient to transition between a manic and depressive state. You’re describing histrionic or borderline personality disorder. Even rapid cycling bipolar disorder doesn’t occur that instantaneously.
    Great video though! Bittersweet, because Peach was my favorite SSB character (don’t judge me; I wasn’t a competitive gamer at the time, okay? XD)
