    My buddy who owns a Model 3 and he test drove a Ford Lightning and the vehicle drove well but he felt the software was clunky and not even close to a Tesla experience. So if you come from a Tesla, everything seems like a downgrade, at least from my buddy's experience.

      if you judge a car only on the GUI then Tesla will beat all traditional car makers.
      The charging curve and comfort of driving is critical.
      I think that Tesla has their competition beat right now on these but the lack of Car Play/Android Auto is a big minus to most

      Software is literally the only thing Tesla beats the Mach-E on, so “everything” is quite a stretch considering the Mach-E looks better and is built better.

    • @AaronMcFarland
      @AaronMcFarland 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jacobdurant9127 hmmm, are you saying my friend is wrong with his opinion? Were you with him on his test drive, and why do you say the Ford looks better and is built better? Looks are completely subjective, and I have not bought a new car that didn't have initial issues. Everything you said is completely opinion, and the biggest reason Tesla sells every Tesla they sell is pretty much software. Kind of like an iPhone, it isn't the hardware that brings you there, it is the software.

    I have a MME and my brother has a Y. Both great cars. If your going to be road tripping quite a bit it’s a no contest choice for the Y. If exterior and interior styling is your thing MME is your choice. If $$$ is a factor, again the Y wins. When I bought my MME it was $15k cheaper than a Y, but today that has flipped. I really like my MME and don’t regret buying it, but if I were in the market today the better tech at a lower price would get my vote and I’d buy the Y. But I wouldn’t run away from the MME if you like it and got a good deal. Ford has lowered the pricing to get it closer. Great review guys! Can’t really argue any points discussed.

    Great job and great video Alyssa and Max! You guys are fun to watch! As Mach-E nerds, we have a couple little corrections, like the Mach-E GT PE does 0-60 in 3.5 not 3.8 seconds; the Mach-E actually peaks at 165 kW and the charging curve has been updated so it is quicker to 80% AND after to 100%. We're obviously really familiar with our Mach-E and have some preferences for it over most others: we like the ride quality more, charging has been improved with updates, the integration with CarPlay and Android Auto is essential for us, and better looks. Hard to go wrong with either though!

  • @anthonyc8499
    @anthonyc8499 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Great video comparison! Couple of points on the Mach-E's charging. It's 115kW max for the Standard Range and 150kW max on the Extended Range. Secondly, Ford does a quirky thing where the charging profile is time-based and the state of charge isn't a big deal. This means it charges the same starting from 10% as it does from 40% so there's no benefit in charging speed to going deep into the pack like on a Tesla.

    On the Model Y, be very careful when putting the rear seats down because if the forward seat is too far back then the headrest on the back seat will hit the back of the forward seat just like it did in this video. The back of the driver's seat in my car had to be replaced because the mounting clips broke after being hit several times by the rear seat.

    Great comparison review. Since we already have a Model Y, my wife and I are looking to add a second EV to our stable but we would like to get something different instead of having two of the same vehicle. The only thing is Max mentions that one of the advantages to the Mach-E besides the looks and color choices is that it offers a GT performance option. In case he doesn't know the Model Y is also offered in the performance model that is a close match for the Mach-E GT performance-wise. I believe it has upgraded suspension, larger wheels and tires and significantly quicker acceleration similar to The Mach-E GT. My wife does like the looks of the Ford and the fact that they will be able to charge on the supercharger network is probably going to swing us in that direction. Thanks again for the review.

    I have received a 2023 Model Y AWD Long Range and not one issue with panel gaps, trim issues noda, wow I was more impressed with the Y than my 2023 Ioniq 5 which the DC fast charger did not work for over 7 months! On my delivery date they had the Tesla in Dog Mode so we could see the car in comfort in advance of our scheduled delivery (it was 85Deg.F. sunny day), the car was super clean, the 2023 Ionic 5 had smudgy film on the glass and not as clean as my Tesla, koodo's to Tesla Vancouver for such an excellent delivery experience and Koodo to Fremont for such a great fit and finish car! So the days of poor build quality on Tesla Model Y are in the past!

    What annoys me about Tesla is the constant removal of safety and convenience features to cut costs from the 3/Y. They took away the Radar, Ultrasonic Sensors, and Rain Sensor, all replaced with the camera system that is unreliable.... It can't even read proper parking distance anymore, and cruise control is a mess with Phantom Braking and the need for the wipers to turn on when it's perfectly nice outside. Now soon the Temperature Sensor and Stalks will be going away as well. I get you have to cut costs, but don't take away features that work well. Really for me, the only thing that Tesla has over the competition now is JUST the supercharger network.

    The Mach-E has three driving modes. Which one did you use? These modes include Whisper, which offers a slow and smooth ride, Normal, and Sport. It's possible that you were using the Whisper mode. The handling of the steering wheel also varies between these modes. Furthermore, you can increase cargo space in the Mach-E by lowering the trunk floor.

    I for one, wish you would have covered a little more on over-the-air updates and over-the-air fixes, as far as Ford compared to Tesla.
    Also what does the Ford screen show as far as the number of chargers available and number of working chargers or speed of charging in route planning. Such as the Tesla app even taking into considering time of day and how busy a charging station is for that certain area so that you might want to charge before that charger or after. Instead of getting there and it either being full of cars or half the chargers not functioning.
    Other than that , a pretty well-thought-out review video.

      Ford has been progressively better about OTA updates after a very slow start from everything I've followed - but I'm not an owner of the vehicle so can't say for sure. Charger business/congestion is going to require better data and installations from 3rd party CPOs - I don't think anyone but Tesla can really go to that level of detail in the nav yet.

    I have just taken a long trip in my Mach-E. Had no issues with charging at EA with 30+ charging stops. Speed of charge was not an issue because of bathroom or eating breaks. We love this car and would buy it again. The one negative comment is that the Ford navigation system is not nearly as good as Apple Maps in giving directions as you’re driving. Ford will sometimes tell you to turn after you passed that turn. It does not help you anticipate the next turn ( eg, it doesn’t say turn right off the freeway then get in the left lane to turn left) and the map screen is essentially blank - a white background with a blue line. It gives you no idea of where you are relative to any place on the road. It doesn’t even name the location of your next charge stop; you have to click three times to find that.

This is perception aspect. In my opinion, Tesla is obviously more future ready, and its a matter of time, that people won't see the need to compare, much like nobody compares an iPhone to say a Nokia Or a BlackBerry, any more.. About CarPlay or Android Auto, it seems most users of those are either selecting music or using a mapping system they like better than Tesla's. I like the Tesla navigation system for the bigger screen, charger locations and voice command. I can navigate using voice to the nearest Ikea or Aqui restaurant or to a National Park and other places. I don't have to know the exact address. My partner doesn't like it (but then she doesn't even want to drive the car) so she uses Google maps and double checks my route. And in busy traffic, her choice is often better being based on experience with the SF Bay Area alternate routes. I usually just let the car take me however it wants and then override it when I see an alternate that might avoid a slow-down on the freeway. Sometimes the Nav system tries to take me back onto its original route after I deviate instead of realizing I'm going to go my way. That gets frustrating and I have to hit END TRIP and then re-enter the destination. I'm definitely the minimalist and really like having no knobs and buttons. The only function I use while driving is climate control which I would like to see some improvements but still no buttons.

    The much more relevant comparison with the Y, is the Mustang Mach e GT Performance, which after being it in it, the Y is like sitting in a white room with no furniture in it.
    The Tesla doesn’t even offer anything like the Magnaride suspension. As far as the charging goes, the Ford’s designers weighted to extend the life of the battery, which is a major expenditure, and I certainly consider it far more important than a few extra minutes at a charging station!

      they forgot a lot, example Tesla Model Y the steering wheel can be adjusted a LOT the Mach-E not sure. Also Tesla has AutoPilot, Enhanced Auto-Pilot, FSD, and FSD Beta. Mach-E only has AutoPilot big time limitations. I would of rushed to a Mach-E if the car was equally matched as I am a long time Mustang owner. However Tesla is leaps ahead.

    • @AdamJakowenko

      Most Mach-E's built before May 2022 will have them fail, but Ford will not replace them proactively...they're waiting for them to die one by one and replacing under warranty. It's a huge pain for customers and the biggest black eye on the Mach-E IMO. Sadly even some Mach-E's built after mid 2022 are also having the HVJB fail, but the frequency is anecdotal at this point...I'm in the forums and the most common post is people posting their high voltage battery warnings and asking what to do, with many of us experienced owners telling them their HVJB has failed and they'll need to bring it in to be replaced, which takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the dealer and parts availability.

    I bought a Mach E over a Tesla for familiarity and the cursed dealer network being on the fringes of the continent. I resisted an EV but when I discovered the Mach E Premium AWD was equivalent to a Y, I was in full shopping mode. 40 years of dealer heartburn but also not naive to supplier BS, I got what I wanted. Now waiting for my NACS to CCS1 adapter 😊

    I drove the MachE Route 1 and really liked it. I walked away and will never (maybe never?) go back to Ford, because of the sales manager and sales person. The sales person knew next to nothing about the vehicle. The sales manager blocked us on the way out the showroom door and asked “What can I do to have you drive home in this tonight?” Really? So slimy. We wound up buying an i4 eDrive40.

    The model Y starts at $48,000 but you do get a $7,500 tax credit, the MachE starts at 43000 but only gets a 3250 tax credit... So technically the price difference is less than $1,000... Problem is that the dealer usually adds anywhere from 2 to 3% in fees so you will almost always pay more with the MachE

      @@nocombed I have not ever seen a dealer that does not also add about $1,000 in dealer fees. So even when they tell you that you are paying Sticker, you're not. If I buy a Tesla on the website all I am paying is for the car, taxes, tag, and maybe a delivery fee. ... At a dealer you're going to pay all of that PLUS a "Dealer Fee" possibly a Service fee and usually a hidden financing fee. Additionally the try to overcharge you for things like floor mats, extra coatings, GAP insurance and all kinds of other things. Bottom line is if you walk into a dealer and by a car that is exactly the same price as a Tesla, 99% of the time, with everything being equal you will end up with a higher payment.

    Nice review. I have to agree with others on how well of a presenter Alyssa is.
    But I have to be honest. You guys were streching it a bit trying to make the Mach E look better than it really is.
    While it may look sportier than the Tesla, it will get smoked by the Tesla. And the built in feature set and software advantage with the Model Y is huge.
    The problem with Apple & Android synced software. When things go bad it always boils down to finger pointing. With Tesla, if there is a issue. They fix it quickly with a OTA update.
    I think to overcome the software problems, Ford will be the first to license Tesla's software/hardware.

    Just picked up a brand new Model Y (coming from a Model 3). I WANTED to go non-tesla this time and I could not justify the price/value/technology with any brand I was interested in (Ford, VW, Hyundai). Mind you, I live in the midwest and CCS charging infrastructure is frighteningly missing on major routes, so that was a big factor as well. Bang for buck, ease of use, daily livability all favor Tesla. And, for anyone saying that carplay or AA is a necessity, you must not travel often in an EV with route planning and preconditioning or you are being a tech snob. Sorry, not sorry.

    I found the ride quality in the 2022 Model Y I test drove last summer to be quite inferior to the Mach-E. The seating was also less comfortable. I would compare it to a Ford Focus, except that I have driven a Ford Focus for hours, and I'm not sure I'd want to drive that Model Y for that long.
    I need to try another one. since it sounds as though the suspension has been changed recently. I'll also watch for the tire size, as that sounds like it makes a big difference in ride quality. A stiff ride is great when canyon carving, but not so great when commuting and road tripping. I'm not sure what was going on with the seating, so maybe it was just a bad car or something... More time is definitely needed on the next test drive.

    I like the look of the Mach-e over the Y. But Ford needs to refresh this car to address things that have significantly changed since the debut of that car. Ford needs to learn to roll out changes and not just let it get behind. Ford isn't as efficient at the Y.
    On visual appeal I prefer the Mach-e. But technically the Y is still ahead. I just don't dig the look of the Y and find the Tesla's pretty boring. They win on charging and integrated nav. In a few years with chargers everywhere hopefully none of that will really matter.
    Ford needs to start rolling out it's second gen EV's. They hopefully have learned a thing or two about packaging, efficiency, and keeping the vehicles current.

    When it comes to "Get in and Go", there's no competition. The Model Y, once your phone is paired to it, you literally just hop in and go. There is no start button to worry about. And when you are done your trip, you just get out and leave the car. It will auto lock. The Mach E still behaves like a traditional ICE car. It even has a start/stop button. It is definitely not the literally get in and go experience like the Tesla's.

    Agree to disagree with you folks regarding "getting used" to not having a center console screen...or not having accurate, real time curb distance info...or not having rear cross traffic warnings...or not having blind spot warnings in the rear view mirror...or not having "birds-eye view" to assist with parking. All these features are offered with any other vehicle in this price range, whether ICE or EV (including the Ford Mach E). Teslas offer bad situational awareness relative to everyone else because Elon Musk insists on it, even against the advice of his own engineers. That's why so many of the good ones leave Tesla (e.g. Peter Rawlinson who runs Lucid).

    TY for the straightforward review, clear on opinion and facts, but the elephant in the room is that these cars will NOT spur EV adoption if the avg US household income is barely 1/3 more than the cost of one of these vehicles… until EVs compete in NEW vehicle lower market space, a “regular” person won’t be able to afford it

    • @iMaxPatten
      @iMaxPatten 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      These vehicles base MSRP is in line for average new vehicle price. Inflation, safety standards, consumer expectations, and several factors have contributed to an auto market where new cars are no longer sub $20k. While I would love more mid $30k hatchbacks I don’t see EVs (or any reasonable new car) being lower than that. It’s not just electric cars - it’s the whole auto market.
