@@caseydia3957 I ended up with the Sennheiser HD560s. They are just at the threshold of "easy to drive". Some stuff still might struggle with them a bit but my audio interface gets just loud enough. Tips from a photographer: Set the lens to Manual focus, up the Aperature to a higher value (intuetively known as "stopping down".... i know) and learn that you have about 20 cm of "focus" to work with. You might need to get a more tele lens for this and mount the camera higher up if you feel that the deapth of field is too shallow (too much is out of focus). Also, generally speaking values below certain f-stops (aperature) are going to make the image softer. This is usually only an issue at f11 or lower and lots pf lenses hit their maximum sharpness at about f5.6 or f8. If you run vintage glass (great, they are cheap and as you dont need autofocus, there is basically nothing you loose on this except maybe that sterile clean look of modern lenses), the markings may be a bit different.
I’ve done film and photography professionally for a long time, I’m familiar with how it works. I usually prefer AF for these videos and wanted to try the art18-35 f1.8 on the top but didn’t realize till after the fact that the mic in close proximity was picking up the motor noise. Just swapped lenses after this video.
I was really looking forward to these but they look pretty trash from all I've seen 😣 oh well not a problem tho that means I get to grab the X2HR when they go on sale for 99$!

I really like the x3, they sound great! They have a wonderfully wide and defined soundstage, very comfortable enjoyable for extended listening. For $199, they were a Super value! I often listen musical genre that are typically less processed or electronically exaggerated such as classical and Jazz that typically feature acoustic instruments, highlighting the enthralling passion and talent of the artists. I have not noticed any problem with "sibilance", to me the x3 sounds remarkably natural. I have a variety of very nice headphones, each with their own unique sound qualities to enjoy as I wish. I didn't expect the x3 to sound like my high end planar magnetic headphones which were many times the price, but I'd been thinking that I wanted another set of dynamic headphones to round out my collection; when the x3 went on sale for $199, the decision was made for me. After listening to them for a many weeks now, I can say that the x3 is great!
Great review. Your comment that the X2 is only a "fun" headphone is a tad hypercritical. There are a variety of ways that engineers design sound reproduction and drastically differing views even amongst hardened professionals despite the pseudo tool like view that every "reference" set of cans or speakers can only be as flat as a mesa. Cheers.

They don't have crazy bass, but they have enough. It is also a subjective thing which kind of sound you like more. If you want more bass, you can easily get it by swapping the pads. They are also the most comfortable headphones in existence right now in my opinion.
@@phillipnunya6793 I feel the need to heavily criticize the SHP 9500. They're overrated! Comfort is great yes. But to me the overall sound of the SHP 9500 is dry, boring and harsh. Many share my opinion that the SHP 9500 suck for music but are decent for gaming.
Design is really nice. Their earpads gets dirty too ez though.
I remember the old days of the inky X2 earpads.
Looks cheaper than the X2 not a fan of the looks
Exactly. I think it looks like trash; the X2HR looked so much better.
I need good closed back headphones! What to get?

The content loudness was really loud on this video chief, you might want to turn it down by 2 or 3 db next time you edit a video
It's fine.
The X2s are the best way to watch movies when you don't want to wake up the whole house. I have not found a pair of headphones that comes closer to cinema sound than the Fidelio. themselvescompetitive, overpriced and largely unknown. I just hope the X2 will continue to exist for a long time.
I own the X2 and the X2HR. Both are excellent headphones and i agree they are great for cinema. Another great headphone for cinema is the Sivga SV021. In fact it is excellent for cinema and is a closed back. Think i picked it up for $150.
DMS's FAVORITE HEADPHONE!
Love your channel man. Have you tried any headphones/iem from Final Audio? Would love to see you review them. Cheers!
He did the review of final audio e2000 and e3000 before.
@@yugao2 sweet thanks
Would love to see an "easy to drive" shootout of the best (maybe 3 or 4 sets) headphones that can be driven with a low power amp or audio interface (these usually have a bit more output than consumer gear).
I'm leaning towards the Focal Elex at the moment but still trying to decide. I have the X2HR's and really enjoy them, but would like something with a bit more detail.
whatd you end up with buddy? :)
@@caseydia3957 I ended up with the Sennheiser HD560s. They are just at the threshold of "easy to drive". Some stuff still might struggle with them a bit but my audio interface gets just loud enough.
I have to boost the bass quite a bit on them to get a Neutral sound, but the headphone does have great detail. Lacking just a bit in soundstage.
@@misterringer Huh that's interesting, the X2s and 560s are in a similar price bracket, did you notice a significant improvement in the detail? I know the X2's have pretty great soundstage, do you find the tradeoff to be worth it? If the experience is better on the 560 for not much of a higher price I could totally upgrade too. I do prefer a less neutral sound signature so I would understand if you were looking for something more accurate.
@@caseydia3957 yeah that's about right. More accurate. Less fun out of the box.
But.....the 560's respond to EQ really well. If you have EQ available you can get a wide range of tones and even with the bass cranked up they don't get muddy. Soundstage isn't bad either.
@@misterringer thats awesome, I feel like headphones that respond the best to EQ are usually harder to drive, its cool to know that doesn't apply. I think the x2 suits my preferences for games and ambient noise a little better but if I upgrade soon I'll definitely be watching the 500 line. Sennheisers always looked so COMFY to me, despite what I've heard about clamp. I think my next setll be sennheisers just for that actual ear shaped cup.
That cloth would get really gross over time
Just toss the cans into the wash.
Cavey Möth lol
I own the x2hrs and love them and have been thinking of getting dt880s but i dont have the power needed for them i have an e30/l30 stack and dont think it would give the juice needed. would you recommend buying x3hrs in my case?
There is no X3hr. Just X3
@@DMS3TV didn't mean for it to sound rude, it's a good video over all :)
Is the X3 really here? Oh, my gosh! The ultimate owo can! I love my X2 and X2HR!
PS: Dear Philips. PLEASE SELL REPLACEMENT EARPADS!
I was really hoping they would make the bass bump deeper and the 6K bump lowered vs the X2... This is disappointing.
I was really looking forward to these but they look pretty trash from all I've seen 😣 oh well not a problem tho that means I get to grab the X2HR when they go on sale for 99$!
I need those in closed type
You should Review Final Audio Headphones....

Iconic haha. Should’ve left it on manual focus.
And already 200 on Amazon 😉
Thank God Philips didn't pay you for this, otherwise they'd be plucking their hair out you being so brutal about these. Love your straight shooting.. keep up the good work.
it wouldn't be a review if they payed him; an ad, rather
great headphone
$199 on Amazon, worth?
Probably not honestly.
I see this as a sweat, dust, and grease magnet.
Im Watching Master Of Moquiton Via My SHP9500s
The Philips X3 shouldn't cost more than 150$.
Cheers.
Fabric?
FABRIC..
Yeahno, peaky, thin sounding and expensive, covered in FABRIC, no dice, I`ll rather have a fun X2 ;)
(I blew up my old ones..oops..was a nice skull massage tho..)
For that price just get a Sundara
agreed
Ollo S4x Please !!!
This is now only 200 bucks
There will never come a new headphone that takes both quality and price into account. Not gonna happen! NIENTE, GIVE UP.

Excellent
Live music sounds fun, doesn't it? And live music has a lot of bass, doesn't it? Based on that, I would argue that the Fidelio X2's are the more neutral sounding headphone when compared to the thinner sounding X3's.
I cherish my X2 because no other headphone can rival its bass + soundstage..not even at the $1000 mark.
@@CaveyMoth I agree that the X2 has top-notch bass (and dynamics), but the $250 Sivga Phoenix eats the X2 for lunch when it comes to soundstage, imaging, and resolution. (I own both the X2 and Sivga.)
@@jhrsjhrs My main headphone is a Focal Elear. It has excellent transient response and a relatively neutral sound signature.. But its soundstage is lackluster and it's really "dull" without calibration. So I constantly go between headphones.
@@CaveyMoth Roger that. I adore the bass, dynamics, and tonal quality of the X2's, but for me the treble is too hot so I'm getting rid of mine. The Sivgas have great treble, soundstaging, imaging, and resolution, and although there is plenty of bass they lack the fullness and warmth of the X2's, and they also lack the dynamics on things like drum hits that the X2's excel at. The search for the perfect pair of headphones goes on, lol.
@@jhrsjhrs Have you considered calibration software to reverse eq out the sound colouration of headphones?
Here's the thing.
There's so many options out there.
But in this particular price range, NOTHING comes near the X2.
NOTHING
Except the thing that are better… like the HD560S
@@DMS3TV
Wrong.
These cans are $200, plus another $150 for the amp.
AND still, the Phillips is more balanced and has a better sound signature at just $148 without an amp.
Those are the facts.
@@bradhuskers the 560S are $150.
X2 is a notoriously flawed headphone. Both objectively and subjectively. Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@DMS3TV
Again, $148. For the x2.
The 560s. With an amp, sets you back $350.
No contest. Your cans cost over twice as much.
