this is a review: Let us start off with the bass as we break down the frequencies. The lower end is everything you could expect for good quality, balanced bass. It is deep and solid. Kicks with a kickdrum sounded round, smooth, and punchy. In every other instrument, the low frequency output is well-defined and well-articulated. I only have great things to say in this area. I alluded to the midrange when I discussed the sound signature. Vocals and instruments in this region were natural and clear with a good range. However, the saturation, richness, and thickness were mostly standard with no surprises. One thing to note is snare drums did not sound very dynamic upon the strike of a drumstick. I have a big preference for fully saturated and warm midrange outputs, so this is where a lot of the Fidelio X3's sound signature differs from my personal preference. One big highlight of the Fidelio X3 is its awesome treble. The clear, bright, and crisp output made it incredible for instrumental music, especially for those who appreciate string instruments. Anything involving percussion like a cymbal or hi-hat was sharp, tight, immediate, and crisp with a sparkling touch as well. The remarkably clean and wet treble carries a lot of energy and I was impressed in almost every way. The only aspect I see room for improvement was a slight, but noticeable, lack of solidity and depth when metal is being hit. Here is the part you have all been waiting for: The Fidelio X3's soundstaging. These are open back headphones, and I will confirm that these have a super wide soundstage. I am going to say it again. It is super wide. There is massive depth and width, where all dimensions are extremely well-defined. You just have to experience it to understand. You will not be disappointed. Closing off with the auxiliary auditioning results, the imaging of the Philips Fidelio X3 was very realistic; staying true to the original production or recording. The layers were precisely produced with a perfect amount of detail. The resolution was nearly perfect across the range, as it picked up practically everything and anything in a quality encoded track. If you think you know your music, listen to the tracks all over again with the Philips Fidelio X3, and you will simply find it a totally new experience as you may discover things you have never noticed before. Deriving from this, the frequency separation was excellent. Again, every detail was almost perfectly reproduced, thanks to its clear, high definition, and clean separation. At the same time, the entire spectrum was cohesive with no transition effects, making it sound exactly as it should. I was also very impressed by how clean the sound comes out to be. It is hard to get much better than this. Overall, the Philips Fidelio X3 are incredible audiophile headphones for those who want to enjoy music at home without bothering the entire family. If you find its sound signature acceptable, which I understand is not everybody's preference, these headphones are very appealing in many ways. Do keep in mind these are open back headphones, so those in close proximity to you will still be able to hear what you are playing and are intrinsically not designed to block out external sound.

The X2HR's lower midrange is covered by the bass bloat, and the highs are sibilant as frick. I find nothing pleasant or accurate about the X2HR. Also as a headphone aimed at audiophiles, so Philips say, why does it have an impedance of just 30 ohms? In my opinion a headphone like this for home hifi use would have been better with an impedance of at least 120 ohms. I find low impedance headphones do not work very well with hifi amplifiers, not much clarity and distort fairly easy.
I got the X2HR and it seems STUNNING when you amp it. You can hear orchestra bass drums in the big epic Hans Zimmer movie soundtracks and it’s glorious. Could it be deeper…but the tightness and detail is all there. If you want the same thing but deeper and stronger base, you are going to sacrifice clarity and treble, or ya re going to spend 4000 dollars….one or the other.
I just ordered these at 50% off for black week. I watched a whole lot reviews comparing this to the X2HR, ended up going with the X3. The discount made it cheaper than it's predecessor.(At least here in Norway). They are replacing my trusty DT770s so I'm guess the bass is gonna take some getting used to. From what I've heard it's more detailed but less "fun" than the X2HR so I'm interested to see how I'll like them. If all else fail I'll send it back and get the X2HR instead, so I'm not too worried.
@@craigroberts5965 I think a lot of people loved the sound signature on the X2HR and were dissapointed by the difference in the X3. Not to mention they launched at least 30% too expensive.

Tbf I’m sure prices are going down eventually with these new philips, still nobody wanted a bright headphone from a fidelio... You should do a best around $350 between the sundara, the new sennheisers and the Phoenix, seems like there’s finally stuff happening between $200 and $500

X3's aren't even worth a comparison review they are garbage. Senheider 560s are way better though a better replacement for the x3's. In same price range obviously sundaras but I was just mentioning new headphones.

Its not a bad headphone, if the X3s were made by sennheiser they would be exactly right and nobody would even question the price tag I personally dislike the Sundaras because they lack bass, they are extremely bright and harsh and the build quality is pretty bad and the pads suck

Wile Sandara and HD600 are still at that 250-300 price range. How are they ranking NOW compared to other 150ish headphones? I am looking for my first open back headphone on budget. Was looking at Grado SR60e ect. Thanks!
Im a fidelio x2 user and I have been looking to upgrade, I did buy sundaras but they arrived broken and I think i want to avoid them for QC issues, does anyone have a recommendation for a pair of headphones in the same price range as the x3/sundara?
I have been using the X2 since it came out 6 years ago. Decided to treat myself and bought the HD600 recently. I really enjoy it. At first I was kind of unimpressed because there is less bass than what I was used to. But after about a week of listening to it and letting my ear adjust to the sound, I love it. Switching back to the X2 now makes it sounds colored in comparison. X2 is still the more fun headphone to listen to as it has a more v-shaped sound but the HD600 has better clarity, no sibilance, less colored/closer to original music sound. Worth a try.

Real shame. The X2s are such a cool, unique headphone. Even people who didn’t like it had to admit that. This is just an attempt to copy the rest of the market.
Hi. Excellent all your reviews! Congratulations! I am subscribed to your channel. Great! I have a question...what do you mean when you talk about V-shape? Are you talking about 15 angular drivers? P.s. I have sennheiser hd 580, hd 600 and Philips Fidelio x2hr... Fidelio is really fun especially for watching movies. I listened to Sennheiser Hd800 and Audize lcd-x... Like 1204 👍🏻
I'm a big fan of this channel and what Joshua does, but in all fairness - if you Google you will find many rather positive reviews of the Fidelio X3. And yes, I own a pair but also various both closed and open back headphones from Sony, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, AGK and Meze Audio.
uniquekillerz Yeah....I don’t see why Sennheiser would dethrone the HD600, HD650/6XX. Maybe offering an alternative to the 58X makes sense since it’s a Drop exclusive.

Thoughts 9 months on?
@@craigroberts5965 Still love them a lot. I highly reccomend them still.
@@parptarf thank you. it's weird how different this review is to Z's.
@@craigroberts5965 I think a lot of people loved the sound signature on the X2HR and were dissapointed by the difference in the X3. Not to mention they launched at least 30% too expensive.
Philips 9600 and X3 are pretty much 2020 in a nutshell. Lots of hype early on, then pure disappointment and sheer terror when it arrived
I've got many headphones and X3, HD6XX both. I usually listen to music with X3. HD6XX has no sub and mid bass. Someone might say that X3 doesn't have enough.
In my opinion, I feel soft and comfortable bass with X3. Overall, it's balanced.
I got mine at $250 and for that price I think they are very good.
Framing it as an apology for the X2 sounds about right. The conversation on the boards was always "X2 sucks get a Sennheiser" from the chorus.
This is why we can't have nice things
Thanks Josh, the Sundara's it is! Haven't checked out the new place yet, I'll check after I make the order for the Sundara.
This review in a nutshell: just get the X2 or the Sundara.
The Sundara and X2/X2HRs are very different headphones which I think is cool to recommend, but yea, basically lol
Hey Josh....great review....can you review the Logitech G pro x on your desk...thanks.
literally just thinking this. Would like to hear a actual review on a gaming headphone like that.
less bassy? no V sound? wtf bro😂😂. I admit it, as successors to the X2 are terrible because they are not "fun" and I understand the annoyance of the followers of the fidelio "X" family. But everyone who sees this should know that for 150 usd they are excellent headphones for those who really enjoy good sound.

I love these headphones!! Can be magical for me.
Video is boooring. Interesting how you spend the time comparing 2 Fidelios, but you never bother to show the X2HR at all.
Oh cool. Already subscribed to both of you before this. Love both of your channels which is always high quality
but I already pre-ordered HD 560S.. so im good
Tbf I’m sure prices are going down eventually with these new philips, still nobody wanted a bright headphone from a fidelio...
You should do a best around $350 between the sundara, the new sennheisers and the Phoenix, seems like there’s finally stuff happening between $200 and $500
rage These look to be $125 headphones TOPS.
The x3 is 150$ off rn. Do I buy the x3 or the x3hr?
he just said dont even buy it
@@asdfkjhlk34 3 months ago 😐
I'm glad I watched your review! I'm sticking to my decision and will get the X2HR.
Usually it was dms who didn't like philips headphones and Joshua liked them ,now its the opposite . Many people didn't like the x3 so far . Joshua are you planning a comparison of the x3 and the 560s and he 400i 2020 ? I believe the 560s and the 400i 2020 will be very interesting
I haven't agreed with DMS on one damned headphone review yet. Not going to bother trying the X3 no matter what he says.
X3's aren't even worth a comparison review they are garbage. Senheider 560s are way better though a better replacement for the x3's. In same price range obviously sundaras but I was just mentioning new headphones.
@@soraflame66 Uhm you dont even own 560s or x3s so shut up and stop bashing, i own X3s i own X2HRs, they are both good headphones designed for different things. i do prefer my x2hrs to some music and the X3s for classical music. Its not a bad headphone, if the X3s were made by sennheiser they would be exactly right and nobody would even question the price tag
I personally dislike the Sundaras because they lack bass, they are extremely bright and harsh and the build quality is pretty bad and the pads suck
I have X2hr & X3, clearly X3 is much more hifi like when pair with iFi Zen Signature Can. better vocal and mids, highs is much richer & realistic.
are HR still more bassy and better for gaming?
@@blond_slut
ya HR is more bassy, but for gaming example playing PUBG MOBILE, can hear more realistic gun firing with X3.
Hi. Which one? 6xx, HFM?. What DAC do you use?
@@luisp.9710
ZenDAC Sig V1 + ZenCan Sig 6XX + x2 iPower Elite 5v
Do you like the 9600s better or the x2??
I think they sound pretty much the same. I also think the X3 is much better looking and more comfortable.
The original X1 is where it's at. Aside from the irreplaceable pads, they were the nicest looking and the materials were nicer than the X2s I owned. Those things were more fun that my DT1990s.
mine broke and i wish i could still get one cause the bass was so good for an open back

Well, that's disappointing... Still looking for a true X2 upgrade
E-Mu Teak are a really solid bass cannon.
Aeolus, Elex, Clear :p
@@Wadacup Jeeeeeezuuuussss man....I guess I should add "without limiting my ability of buying food" xD
@@whyllian1234 haha sorry. Maybe just a aspiration for the future! The ZMF or Focal headphones are fantastic end-game upgrades to the X2's.
I betrayed my beloved X2's for the Clear 😅
The Fostex TH- headphones are great and more affordable upgrades
whyllian1234 Focal Elear or Elex. I have the Elear and they are amazing. Build quality with the Focal headphones is something other companies need to take note of.
They took the iconic look of the X2HR and made the X3 look almost like any other headphones. =(
Which would you recommend? The X2’s or the X3’s? Both are on sale at the moment.
@@Isaac-cj3fv I decided to go with the X2's but thanks anyways.
Macro shots are looking soooo nice!
So for me (bass lover) of my x2hr, it's not a worth upgrade.
But the question is : Do philips done a good headphones?
In my country (Germany) it has gotten pretty good review tbh. I was kinda surprised that Joshua‘s review differs so much from that. There were a lot of comparisons with the 660S which surprised me because the Phillips are so much cheaper here.
These should've been reviewed as a "seperate" headphone not a successor......better yet reviewed not wanting more of the same. Alot of X2 lovers wanted the X3 to be an X2.5....Bad Seed, Josh, DMS....and more.
In which tracks does the driver not handle the appropriate bass response ?
Any chance to figure out the music in the background in the beginning?!
Yooooo I love bad seed techs videos. It's neat to know you guys are acquainted.
Hey Josh, I know you gave these fidelio an F:) Its an F ranked 350 dollar headphones that had to compete to Sandara and hd600. But today you can get them for 130 bucks. Wile Sandara and HD600 are still at that 250-300 price range. How are they ranking NOW compared to other 150ish headphones? I am looking for my first open back headphone on budget. Was looking at Grado SR60e ect. Thanks!
So they flipped the sound signature? Who wanted that?
The one thing bothering me was that pair of G Pro X wireless from the thumbnail. I sold mine for $25 because I'd never had something worse than that.
Im a fidelio x2 user and I have been looking to upgrade, I did buy sundaras but they arrived broken and I think i want to avoid them for QC issues, does anyone have a recommendation for a pair of headphones in the same price range as the x3/sundara?
Verum one mk2.
@@jari121 Interesting, will consider those but not a great returns policy if i dont like them :( understandable though i guess as its an individual creator
@@wilwilb3533 Im a bit worried about the hd600s being a bit boring in comparison to the x2 but i guess i can easily return them if i dont like them!
@@RennyChuggs Yes it is definitely personal preference so ymmv. Just sharing my experience with it as I also love the X2. They sound quite different than the X2 so you may or may not like that. If there is good return policy at your area then I'd say go for it.
I picked them up at 50% off hoping it would be an upgrade. I do own the X1s and the original X2s as well. Apparently I should have dug around for reviews beforehand.
How to clean that fabric? Washing machine?
Why would you get cosmetic surgery when you could get your vocal chords messed with to sound like Brian P? Love that guy...
“Ya ready? Let’s go!”
Thanks for the honest review and excellent videography as always Joshua. Love the channel.
These things are $349.99 on Amazon. At that price point, I'd get something else.
1Dub79 Sennheiser HD 6XX HD 58X or the new HD 560S. All $200 or less.
@@Assimilator702 I own the 58x, SHP9500 and the Nari Ultimate. That 560S seems like a great headphone.
1Dub79 I might pick that one up. I’ve been using iems exclusively through the Summer. I still want to wait until more reviews come through. They basically look like a cheaper HD599 with possibly better tuning. Not sure how that beats HD600, 6XX, HD 58X or HD 660S.
They've recently dropped to 216.00.
@@TJ.Turner I just bought a pair of Focal Elegia for $400 BNIB. That's a deal that can't be passed up. Amazing headohones.
For some reason, the lamp off to the right keeps looking like Target's logo. What's wrong with me lmao. Great review as always.
i've been looking for a headset for gaming. Currently using the fidelio x2's , but the right earcup is falling off. Anything you can recommend? should I just pick up the x2's again like you mentioned. I was looking at the x3's cause they are on sale right now for 150
Eagerly wait for your HD560s review.
I own the x2hr.
So if the x 3. Isn't worlds better, why upgrade?
Hey!
After the X3 letdown, how do you think the X2HR stack against the new HD 560s?
Would these headphones be good for gaming.... for hearing footsteps....?
I love Philips, they are the E-PI-TOME of headphones.
excellent timber
@Tasunke He's making fun of my epic failure in a video. Pretty funny and worth a watch!
Rather get the HD560s
Hey man! Thanks for the review, bit of a random question. Your opinion what’s is the most immersive gaming experience you’ve had sub 1K. Currently looking at K712pros or Beyers T1 2nd Gens. Thoughts?
Thank you for being honest and helping us with our purchases. This has to be said. Good job!
if i bought it cant i just use the pads from my old x2 to x3?
Phillips could solve this with something like X3HR (a balanced x2hr with x3 platform)
Real shame. The X2s are such a cool, unique headphone. Even people who didn’t like it had to admit that. This is just an attempt to copy the rest of the market.
Just ordered the Sennheiser HD 560S. Heard some good things so taking a chance
I honestly really disliked the X2, such a shame after the great Fidelio L1! (I still have a working L1!)
Philips get rid of that headband strap, it sucks on the x2, I won't get headphones with that
And then finally you have an opportunity to compare it yourself. And then you find - to put it mildly - Joshua was 100% right. X3 is a crap.
Please do timestamps like at 6:40 in this video please, 10 seconds in which I find out all I need to know about this headphone. Saves time! Thanks.
Thank you very much for these reviews JV, you don’t know how much helpful you are to us.
Philips headphones are getting really pretty
i think the x2hr looks nicer
The HD560S are currently half the price of the X3. Surely that's a nail in the X3's coffin, if the HD560's are as good as reviewers make out
uniquekillerz Yeah....I don’t see why Sennheiser would dethrone the HD600, HD650/6XX. Maybe offering an alternative to the 58X makes sense since it’s a Drop exclusive.
I thought I heard something about them being sold , maybe the new owners don’t know didly squat
You READY.....Let's go!!!
Great review
Can you please compare the Ananda with the LCD2 fazor ?
Ananda is much more neutral and sounds wider. LCD2 is warmer with better bass IMO.
@@AliArghavan do you A/B them ?

My name's still Josh
I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be like a shure 1840 competitor
complete bullshit, I disagree on every point
I bought it for $209, is it worth?
One of my favorite reviews.. a product smackdown always ensure credibility in the reviewers and amongst the industry.
I think he is over reacting.
@@TJ.Turner I completely agree. Don't forget, this is one person's opinion so he can over-react if he wants too, but for me over reacting lessens credibility.
Got them for $150ish, and I'm very pleased with them.
You wouldn't buy them if you were a bass head, that's true.
If these are so bad as we say it is why does google always say it’s the loudest headphones out there
You keep saying "X2" but I am pretty sure you mean "X2R", in fact you even link to the "X2R". There's a significant difference between the two!
X2 and X3 design is on point except the dirt magnet earpads.
Changing earpads..easy fix
I want a pair to be honest, because I like the look
so, i guess a review of the new 400i is coming soon?
You and Brian are awesome reviewers. Do a collab sometime!
Pad-swappers are disgusted, once again.
One more time, I don't trust your ears.
at 200$ its not worth it , at 350$ its DOA
