- In this video I show how I fit a large cupboard around a boiler and heating system so as to enable it to be easily removed for servicing and repairs.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS AND REQUIREMENT FOR FITTING BOILERS IN UNITS LIKE THIS.
Great job Del, As a gassafe guy, this is way better that the vast majority of cupboards, number one for Gassafe is to be able to inspect the flue, and the ability to replace it and check all around boiler for signs of spillage (unburned combustion/soot marks etc)
What would be nice would be a laminated drawing showing which screws to remove to get certain panels off, maybe colour coded stickers/paint next to screws to removed each section as shown on laminated drawing that is kept in the cupboard or stuck on inner side panel.
Just my two pence worth.
Hi V8🖐 Fortunately, this is actually an air source system so no flue. I'm already ahead of you bud and I put number stickers against every screw that corresponds with a little key/instruction sheet that I leave in the cupboard, and I cleverly number more hidden screws with a lower number so they don't get missed👊 Great suggestion about laminating it and sticking it to the inside of the cupboard👍 I'm going to pin your great and helpful comment as its got some good info in it. Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter Thanks, Del your always ahead of the job, I wondered why I couldn't see a flue that I would normally see. Air source it's the future I tell thee. Maybe... :)
@@v8motors. I do explain a bit more about how I number the screws for easy to follow dismantling🤩Cheers again bud👍
This is abit random but I am buying a flat right now and the seller clearly got some cowboy to fit the boiler bcs I recently had 2 replaced and the work was lovely and clean and they gave me a gas cert right away before leaving the property (also had uniform with gas safe badges on). This flat the wall is cracked where the flue has been taken out, other side wasn't even filled, electric wires hanging out just a mess I even have pics. Now before we complete we req a gas safe cert. My question is, is it normal to be able to get one after the jobs complete? Wouldn't you have got one after the boiker was fitted?
Cracking job Del, really tight space to work in as well, absolute pleasure to watch a craftsman in motion all the best Tony 👍
Hi Tony🖐It's not idea bud, but you'll see in the final video, that there is some really great access with only a handful of screws to take out👍Thanks for your comment mate, and have a great weekend😎Cheers Del.
Nice job, I can see a plumber taking that apart nice and carefully and then putting it back all together nice and carefully!
Hi there🖐Who knows how someone may approach taking this apart and putting back together😵Thanks for your comment😎Cheers Del
He'll use a crowbar to take it down
I'm not there to dismantle halve a kitchen potentially damaging something and being liable, the homeowner is taking it down or I'm off kitchen fitter are a pain in the arse 🤷♂️
A top joiner,up there with the best you will find, consistently high standards regardless of the type of work. A credit to your trade Del.
That's a very generous comment Alan, and I appreciate you watching🤩Have a nice weekend 😎 Cheers Del

Planned perfectly , Executed to perfection. Keep up the good work big guy. 👍
Thanks Charranjit 🤩Appreciate your comment and you watching😎Cheers Del
When you took out that back panel and cut the side panel down I thought "oh no" but fair play to you - ended up a cracking job! looking forward to part 2 👍
Hi P🖐 Yeah, after the first initial fit, I new I was going to have be even more brutal with that far gable😝Thanks for your comment😎Cheers Del
Great stuff Del, on the money as usual . You have a great positive mindset when you work , you have me saying "Yes" now when things go to plan lol .Have a great weekend !!
I do love it when a plan comes together Adrian, and I guess I cant keep in my happiness when I've completed a task as I was hoping🤩It makes me chuckle to think that you will also be saying, 'yes', when you've done stuff now👊Have a nice weekend bud😎Cheers Del
Great job Del,Fantastic workmanship.......!!!!!!
Thanks for your kind comment Michael🤩Have a great weekend 😎 Cheers Del
You can always rely on a carpenter to make a shit job look pucka . Ask any plumber, sparx or painter who they ask to get em out the shit. Excellent work Del, need part 2 now. All the best
Hi Steve🖐 You're comment made me chuckle😝Part 2 is coming soon👍Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Top work again Del. 👍
Thanks for watching Barry😎Cheers Del
Brilliant job Derek, goodness you made that unit fit perfectly in no time , I'd have been at that for a day trying to get the measurements exact..LOL...a great idea on the wall unit will put that into practice next time..cheers
Hi Arthur🖐 I wouldn't have used the standard wall mounting brackets even if I could find a fixing, as you need to lift the unit to get it off which would mean the scribes would have to be removed too👍 Great comment and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Brilliant job Del.
Hi Steve🤩Thanks for watching and have a nice weekend 😎 Cheers Del
Another inspirational video Del. Always look forward to your uploads. Superb craftsmanship. 👍
Hi there🖐That's a very kind comment🤩Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

Well done 👏 Del
The video 📹 makes everyone's life easier and I am using camera phone 🤳 more and more everyday just for this and set out .. It has become an essential tool.
Hi Tim. Its amazing how great cameras are now, be it on your phone or stand alone👊 Thanks for watching and have a great weekend😎 Cheers Del
Brilliant work as usual

Hi Phillip🤩These kind of things do take a little extra thought, but it makes it better for everyone in the long run👊Thanks for your comment and have a nice weekend 😎 Cheers Del
As always T.C. A great watch and top quality work 👍👍
Appreciate your comment Brian🤩and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Good one Del not easy working in such a small room it's always a bit of a nightmare fitting the boiler units 👏🤗☘️🇮🇪🤟
Hi John. That room is a nice size for a utility, but it's still fairly tight😆It's all gone in there OK and should work well👍Have a nice weekend 😎 Cheers Del
Nursing a tooth extraction 🤕
@@johnmorrissey1675 Ooooo, nasty😖Your tongue keeps wanting to feel the massive creator where your tooth used to be as well😩 All the best with it👍
Great job Del, If I had chopped that cabinet about like that, it would have resembled 4 sticks of weetabix on the floor........haha.
Hi Bob🖐I think you're probably being a little hard on yourself there bud😖 Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Excellent job
Cheers Robert🤩Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Such a good video! And what are the chances of hitting the screw on the wall cabinet 😂😂
Hi there🖐 Yeah, I bet if I was trying to hit that screw it would taken many attempts😆 Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Amazing job. I'm wondering who makes those units that you are installing. I like the room door.
Hi there🖐I couldn't tell you makes those units😬They are nice to work with though🤩Cheers Del
lovely neat, tidy and practical job...got used to nothing else from you now...
As an aside, what's going on under that window? The reveal goes down to the floor? Surely going to be a cold spot there??
Hi John. Good spot on the full height window👊The lower panel is insulated, but I think the builder is still forming an upstand at worktop level to allow a splashback to run straight through, and I also think they are further insulating the lower part of the reveal and closing it off🤞Thanks for your comment bud, and for watching😎Cheers Del
Great video Del, might be worth showing the finished install right at the beginning of the video...so we know where your going as your install progresses. Also I note the units seem to have solid backs to them fixed with pocket holes, rather than the usual flimsy mdf style you get with cheap ones, what brand are they? as a diyer / home owner thats a personal bug bear with me when stuffing pots and pans into cupboards...looking forward to part 2....
Hi Chris. I would love to have shown the finished units first, but my videos are shot, edited and uploaded almost immediately, so cant really do that🙄These units are, pretty much, hand made in a small manufacturers here in the UK to the kitchen designers exact needs, and it is really nice having 18mm backs that can easily be removed and altered👊Thanks for your great comment and for watching😎Cheers Del
Where are you getting the actual units from ? I noticed that th thickness of the units is good size. I would like to check it out myself.
Hi Ali🖐They are hand made to order for the kitchen supplier I was working for, so I don't actually know where they were made😬and I think they are a trade supplier to a small number of outlets🤔Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
What do you use to find the battens in the stud partition wall ?
Hi Russrua🖐I tend to look at the bottom of the wall and you can usually either see the stud or an unplastered drywall screw🤞Failing that, I will gently tap the wall and listen for the sound difference, and then tap a 16g nail in until I find the stud, and then measure 400/600 from there🖐Cheers Del
Excellent job. About to tackle similar so invaluable, thank you. Just a question though please, is there a minimum distance that is required between combi boiler housing and cupboard panels and is any vent required? 👍
Hi there. Most modern boilers are fine inside cabinets as they are very heat efficient. I usually check with the boiler manufacturer specs to see if any additional ventilation is required, and most of the the time I just cut a fairly large hole out of the top of the unit for this anyway, and try and keep the sides of the carcass at least an inch or so away from the boiler case👍Cheers Del
Excellent job on your behalf but a pity there wasn't a little bit more thought given to the whole project at the outset which could of possibly made life a little bit easier for all concerned.
Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Hi Gareth. In fairness to this developer, the houses were sold mid way through the construction process and consequently the customers have made changes to layouts etc which can cause issues🙄Great comments and thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Hi
I know this video is two years ago but where will I find part two 😊

Here is the next part of this video👍
Super job . Hope you have paracetamol after all that brain work. I make French cleat to hang cupboard with one screw in bottom of cupboard to fix. Your Good at your job for sure.
Hi Ian. I did think about a French cleat, but, to save removing the scribes, I didn't want to have to lift the unit upwards👍Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Wish I was as disciplined with safety equipment as you, I just don't take the time or bother, sure I'll regret it one day, got to 45 tho, my knees I do think about tho, did listen to an old boy years ago on that one coz I heard it many times not so much people saying I wish I used ear buds
Hi Ian🖐 I work with guys that were almost deaf by 50 through not wearing ear protection. The funny thing is, once you start wearing them, everything sounds too loud without them, so it's easy to keep using them👍Try using them for 1 week, and see how you get on🙉Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter I'll try force myself m8
@@ianthompson9058 👍😎
I find lath work wonders to hell boxing pipes as far as depth is concerned Mr tall will know this, more for the diy guys
You're spot on there Ian🤩Cheers.
There's not much left of that😂, I hate doing this but you do what you have to pal
I knew it would take some hammer Ian, and hacked even more out of cupboards in the past, as I'm sure you have too🤯Cheers bud👊
👍
Cheers Paddy🤩
Lights on drills, we'd be lost without them now
Hi Ian. I thought they were a bit of a gimmick when they first put lights on drills, (just like I did when they put cameras in mobile phones😝), but as you say, absolutely invaluable now👍Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter eah same here m8. I thought I'm not going to be working in the dark, waste of time 😂
@@ianthompson9058 😆👍
Hi del.check out the kitchen mate on youtube for lifting tall units up and moving into place.have a good one
Will do DJ👊Thanks for your comment😎Cheers Del
What bad luck to hit a screw with a screw, having said that it's happened to me numourous times, my old man recons its due to mussle memory
Hi Ian. I thought I had it all worked out, and then mugged myself on camera🤪 You're absolutely right about muscle memory and I'm planning a video on this which should be interesting👍Thanks for another cool comment bud😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter I'll look forward to that m8, do it numourous times when I cover old ceiling with battens and then hit the screes underneath when putting the plasterboard up, you'd think I'd learn 😂
