Sonic the Hedgehog Lost Bits! Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused and unseen things in various games! In this video we explore Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis and Sega Master System and find various cut sounds and sprites! By using the Debug mode in sonic the hedgehog, we can also explore some new things!

Those unused sprites may have been used when entering the warp ring since it looks like Sonic is being warped in some sort of portal which may be the be the warp ring
The Robotnik tiles found in debug mode are collision to crush Sonic/push him out of the way if he gets moved into the tile spot. Normally if Sonic is pushed into a wall/ceiling without that specific collision block there, he just gets pushed into the level geometry, which can allow Sonic to zip around in the walls. The developers had to make the tiles to force the game to kill Sonic when an object pushes him into a wall.
I was about to comment that. Glad to see people well informed on the mechanics of the Genesis Sonic games.
A fun fact is that they also appear in sonic mania, with the same purpose.

In Sonic Mania, they stop you from getting into select parts of solid objects, that if you went in that area, the game would glitch. So they either would push you out, glitch the game (if they didn't work well enough), or even kill you.
I mean, they could be last minute collision detection. But considering they`re purpose in Sonic Mania....

Hey dude! You forgot to mention that the yellow goggles were used in Sonic Mania, but they're actually used for when Sonic is riding the plane (If you're playing as Tails). Great video btw! c:

Those goggles actually made it into Sonic Mania whenever you play as Tails. Sonic flys the Tornado with these goggles on.

8:17 the unused goggles and S monitor spites are on the sign post if you are in debug mode and scroll all the way to the end of the level without going out of debug mode
Sonic Falling was going to be used when the player would touch the goal thing in the special Stages and the warp thing was going to be used when you reach a checkpoint with 50 rings similar to sonic 2

Hidrocity zone acts are really good. One of my favorite Sonic levels.
Ironically this zone is one of the best water levels in any game I've played and Sonic is famous for not being able to swim. Go figure.
If you have pants, they're just ashes.
I genuinely don't mind them. It's just about having patience. But if there one water level I have a slight teensy weensy problem with, it's Labyrinth Zone on the Master System/Game Gear.

10:27 One of my favorite things to do in the mobile port of Sonic one is getting Sonic and tails and going to this bit of marble zone. You can get Taild down there and then the lava triggers and as Sonic, you can simply go down there. Would recommend.

10:39 those are special tiles that tell the game certain instructions when sonic touches them, essentially a trigger. I think that the robotnik ones act as solid walls there and the team put them there due to sonic being on a moving platform, and maybe there was a problem in the game engine where sonic could pass through normal walls if he was on a moving platform, so instead of fixing that they just put those robotnik tiles there which sonic can't pass through in any circumstance.
This is just speculation though, i could easily be entirely wrong
The moving platform thing seems to be further enforced by the tiles during the robotnik fight, perhaps the crushers would normally just push sonic through the floor/ceiling and so they had to add in those special tiles

Okay, here's some information on what the W Mark could function like:
If they were most likely to be in the game, then in the special stages you could see them (if).Then it would maybe work like a warp or a teleporter to a another W mark.
I think the reason why it was not added into the final release was because it would be really annoying because there are more objects in the special stages to make you exit it.

Robotnik tiles were invisible walls which, if I recall correctly, stopped Sonic from moving through walls due to moving platforms and also were what killed Sonic when getting crushed.

Good Video, but you seem to have used some outdated information about the goggles. They were just a cosmetic difference for Sonic when he was underwater and nothing else. As for the goggle monitor, I think the devs used it for testing the air mechanics before the air bubble sprites were made.

The DS version is the same, but A and C is reolaced with Y.
The 2013 CW remake:
1. Start no save mode and pick any character
2. As the sega logo appears, tap the letters in order (you'll hear a ring chime)
3. Hold 2 fingers as the title screen appears. Now you're in level select.
4. Now on the sound test, play 01, 09, 09, 01, 00, 06, 02, 03 (1991 June 23rd, which is the release date of gen sonic in us)
5. Now select any level.
*Tap the ui in the top left to enable and disable, tap - & + (top center) to roll the item order

Liam Wynne Is there a reason to show footage from a remade Sonic 3 level while covering unused content from Sonic 1? Also he said himself he can't cover Sonic Mania yet because he's waiting for the PC collectors edition, so I expected not to see any Mania footage. I admit my comment was a little bitter, but having parts of the game spoiled so close to release isn't enjoyable. The video is well produced but should have carried warning.
Neo Cyrus that's a fair point. I strongly recommend you carefully consider which sonic videos you watch until you get your copy of Mania as I've seen some videos where they mention huge Mania spoilers completely out of the blue - and there's so many damn incredible moments in the game it would be a shame to ruin the surprise!
The W marker actually speeds up the rotation of the area around you. I've played a later beta of Sonic 1 on emulator and discovered it's purpose. Also the Sonic icons were to give you an extra life which would've made the game easier. I'm glad they removed it in the special stage because i'd rather have a bit more of a challenge.
I know this is an old comment, but there isn’t a later beta of Sonic 1, there has only ever been one prototype found and dumped. You probably played a hack.
