We hated fake noises on cars with actual exhausts and now this is just worse still. When we went from horses to cars we didn’t need the cars to sound like horses.
For the fake engine sound they should make it a small child making car noises, or probably more appropriate, the 'My Little Pony' cartoon theme song. I didn't think there would be a way to make the 500 worserer, but Fiat have managed it.
I have the 595 Competizione, would never buy an electric Abarth because it's just not what Abarth stands for. They are known as loud, sporty cars with small engines that make a lot of power. This 500E just hurts my heart as an Abarth fan. However, the Fiat 500E is a great car. It looks good, is actually very practical. I just don't think Abarth should have picked it up. Hope they put a petrol, or even hybrid, 595 in production again but it's probably never gonna happen. I do kinda like the fake noises if I'm honest, makes the car more fun and you can always turn it off
So you take out the ICE to put an Electric motor to then add fake ICE noises... I don't know, if you are going to put noises rather make something sound kind of electric, ditching one of the attractive points of abarths, the engine and the sound, making it way heavier and then adding fake combustion engine noises seems wrong to me.
Totally agree sentiments. Alas it looks/sits very pretty. Probably nice to drive. Sad piston engine the better car. 2030 agenda just so odd. 100 years proven petrol tech down drain.
155 mile range is poor, considering this will be practically unacheivable.....and if you take into account that FIAT themselves have said that if you use the heater on the standard 500e, the range will be reduced by around 40%. So that leaves well under 100 miles of range. So we have what is, in practice, a 2+2 that will cost well in excess of £30k that makes a ridiculous noise and can't really take you anywhere but on the weekly shop......which probably won't fit in it anyway.
As long as you can turn the music off don't have an issue with the engine fakery - for me it's about the experience and tricking your brain into feeling rewarded when you are heavy with your right foot of which sound is a large part of it.
I feel the same, but it's still weird. The sound it uses is from the 595, but it doesn't upshift. So it's like a long pull without changing gears, the whole ride
Hate to say it but as a petrol abarth owner I just from comments made to myself from other abarth owners think this will slowly become a brand of the past and solely a specification rather than a brand in itself as I've yet to hear any petrol abarth owner thinking of buying one
One of the reasons why people buy EV is because it is silent especially cars with proper noice dampener. Also why the heck didn't Abarth put in at least a 150kWh electric motor. A syn r motor is just fine Abarth doesn't even need to use the pm syn r motor to reduce costs
That car is not it I don't understand why they keep making cars with fake exhaust noises dosen't make sense. Plus I appreciate your guys for making these high quality videos it inspires everbody including me to make better videos on my youtube.
Actually, until now the sound a car makes is part of how you control a car. The faster a car goes the more noise it makes, meaning that you can actually hear if you're driving too fast. You have three indicators to how fast you're going, visually (the world outside your car), the noise it makes and what your speedometer tells you. Take the sound away and changes are you will be driving faster than before.
I love the look of that thing! I’ve always loved the Abarth 500s, so characterful and charming, you walk up to it and you can’t help but smile. I’m glad the new electric one still makes me smile at first sight. I think that noise is a bit overkill in the sense they’ve tried a bit too hard, but if you drive it and makes you smile, then it’s job done.
Exactly. People in this comment section are taking what’s supposed to be a fun little car way too seriously. Personally I think the fake exhaust note and the other noises the Abarth makes are just some fun quirks that fit its personality
I wouldn’t mind if they just amplified the ev motor sound. My ev makes interesting sounds but you can barely hear it. Only noticeable on an empty road with no traffic and the windows down. (This is before they added pedestrian speakers).
It would've been better if they made it sound like a Formula E racer which would fit the anti-social objective of ICE Abarth's without making it sound stupid, who on Earth thought that people would accept a full fake "exhaust system" when people hate the fake engine noises modern ICE cars have
I'm so glad I grew up in an age when I could fill my 400 bhp sierra cosworth with .V power and flames would shoot out of the exhaust. All that money for a car with poor range and dismal performance..the best bit about the 595 or the 695 was the noise ,the boost and the feel from the punchy little 1.4 engine. How much fun will that be trying to drive to the nurburgring to do a weekends track day ,your going to spend most of your life plugged in to the network.
Why do they bother to do it if it is not better than the ICE version in every single way by a mile? That should be a basic requisite for any electric vehicle. Tesla is killing it exactly because of this mindset even tho they didn't fully achieve it they try hard.
Sorry but everything that made Abarth great, was the engine Manuel shifter and sound, everything that this car doesn’t have, + it looks stupid and is slower, and more expensive, why would anybody buy this? I would rather have Abarth make a Punto ssucessor
Fake noises are awful sadly. This is the issue with Electric cars, you sacrifice that raw real noise from great sounding cars normally. They should have just made it a sporty and fast elec car, and that's it.
I have a 595 and while I love it. It's really bad on long drives! I hope this one is better in that case. Maybe when I'm older I can revisit this Gem of a car!
Gorgeous little car. If I'm gonna buy a second car for city commute, I don't see what can beat this one in my book. And I'm ok with the sound. It's obvious that the future is silent, so it's either fake sound or no sound. And I'd rather hear something when I go fast. And don't tell me the Taycan is better, it sounds like an electric car from a bad 80s sci-fi movie.
I wish motoring journalists wouldn’t mention the phrases “ performance” and range in the same breath, as anyone who owns an EV will tell you, if you use anywhere near the great performance an EV gives you, the range plummets massively, which is never mentioned in any road test video or program.
