      @@Yubuzka3774 agree with you, and I'll take it further. All EV producers selling in the Western hemisphere are price gouging. The cars are too expensive. The Chinese manufacturers have shown that EVs can be delivered at reasonable prices. Now Tesla has dropped prices. I don't see anyone else doing that. Even this car at over 40k is overpriced. Go to China. Almost 50% of all BEVs on the road are in China, most manufacturing of BEVs is in China, so most models of BEV are in China.
      Some of these may make it to the EU countries but there is a political fight going on right now that keeps Chinese company BEVs from going into the EU and the US and probably Canada as well. I think more of these get into AU though.

      You’ve got to ask yourself why the Model 3 sells so well, even when there are cheaper options out there when it comes to BEVs. Heck, it’s also outselling many of its ICE vehicle competitors. Nonetheless, I hope to see more compelling BEV options that are actually produced in high volumes like the Model 3 is. So far, we are only seeing that in China from Chinese EV makers.

    My local dealer let me have a 2 hour test drive last week in the dual motor version and I think it's a superb car. Excellent to drive and it was showing 345 miles range when I picked it up. In the photos I wasn't sure about the sloped rear but in the flesh it has so much style and presence, it just works. When I came out of Sainsbury's there was a group of 6 people standing around it, amazed at it's looks. One guy even asked if his 7 year old boy could sit in it! How many new £50k cars can attract that much attention? A model Y performance is obviously quicker but Tesla's are just too common and look boring compared to the 6.

    Great video! Love the car. Actually, mine is due in April. Curretly driving with an Ioniq 5 dual motor. Anyhow, I don't think the Ioniq 5 is a "bigger brother" to Ioniq 6. They are just different approaches to the theme. They share the same platform and the wheelbase is identical (ok, the Ioniq 5 has got 5 mm longer, but plays no role). The Ioniq 6 is longer from front to back, the Ioniq 5 is naturally taller as it is a crossover. The weight difference is minimal, around 50 kg. I'd say, the only difference is that one is a crossover, the other a "sedan".

It's not that hard to get 5mi/kWh in my car in this weather. Starting at £45,000? That's a shame since they are clearly aiming at the Model 3 market and that starts at £43k and is more efficient.

    The more I look at this car the more I like it. It grows on you. It's unique and it looks different at different angles. There's absolutely nothing like it on the road and the gravity gold matte colour looks gorgeous.

    Genuinely really like the style and technology, especially for that price point. I only have one small issue with the car.
    If you're going to drop the roofline in the back that dramatically over the rear wheels, why oh why did you not just make it a hatchback?! Just move the trunk hinge up a little, it's not that hard!

    Back around the early noughties, Hyundai UK were a customer of mine and I remember them running a campaign, with various supporting customer materials, trying to encourage people to say He-yoon-day instead of Hi-yun-die. Nobody took any notice and they quietly dropped the crusade, so hopefully they’ll reach the same conclusion with this latest effort! 😊

    I always pronounced your first name as ‘Raa-re”, but now I’ve been ‘advised’ that is wrong. But screw it, just going to continue to say it my way regardless even though I’ve been told the correct way to pronounce it….

    Awesome review of the Hyundai Ioniq 6, my favorite car style is sedan, so I prefer the Ioniq 6 to the Crossover Ioniq 5. I like the I 6 design, and I like the dashboard design and buttons for climate control. I like the heated back seats and I like the USB C connection. Some people say the back design looks like a Porsche 911 and the Mercedes EV EQS prototype with the longest range. The Ioniq 6 is good competition for Tesla Model 3,

    When it comes to pronunciation of foreign brand names, I think it’s a story similar to borrowed words. I don’t think you’d pronounce the word “genre” as “JEN-ner” or “GEN-ree” or whatever sounds better in English, because this wasn’t English in the first place. Brands like Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton etc all have a “correct” pronunciation in their own language. Of course you can always say it the English way, but it just sounds weird and funny. I think we should all respect the “correct” pronunciation of foreign brand names, despite being difficult to say or sounding a bit strange. After all, it’s not English, right? To assist with learning, many languages have some phonetic systems that happen to use English alphabets so foreigners can learn the language with relative ease, but of course there are also certain pronunciation rules that don’t apply in English. So you can always pronounce “Hyundai” your own way, but know that it’s actually a Korean word meaning “modernity”, so in Korean it sounds more like “h-YON-day” [with the /h/ (as in “he”) blending subtly with the /y/ to make it sound like one single consonant], not “HAI-YON-die”.

    • @paulmartin2230
      @paulmartin2230 ปีที่แล้ว

      This American agrees with you, Rory. I’m always amused by these discussions. After all, we don’t say Pa-REE for Paris. I don’t see an obligation to pronounce a word as it’s pronounced in its original language. That’s why I will never buy a Por-sha.

    I would like to see a bit more headroom in the back. You are 5’11’’ and your head was almost touching the roof. More space would probably require a longer wheelbase, different profile with a higher drop from the roof to the trunk or moving the back seats slightly forward. I think i am ok with all these options at the expense of increasing the price or loosing knee room which seemed to have extra room.

    A proper pronunciation goes a long way Rory. That is why. It can and it does make a difference. There is no British or US way, there is only a wrong way. If there is a company, or soccer player, or cricket player you do highly respect then you should learn their name and put a small effort into learning to try to pronounce their name properly. Should you not? In an era I've grown up football presenters were keen having foreign footballer's name said as they would say it in their native language. It was important for them so the people watching the game can also learn. I think it is not right to think because we have pronounced something in the wrong way we must stick to it because you know this is the way it is, get on with it. I think this is the wrong approach Rory. Do you want your name pronounced rurea? I guess not. If you do respect a person, a brand, a country (and the list goes on) you should learn how it is pronounced. As an influencer you should see the opportunity to bring others to make aware of how to pronounce Hyundai properly, but you just dropped the mic with a smug face and walked off stage. It is ignorance and not funny at all. Their adverts in the UK has been produced in the UK in the last 37 years and to my understanding the advertising company have made the mistake and not the company itself. (Miscommunication?) Can you imagine your name being constantly mispronounced for 30+ years? Would you take some effort to correct this when you have finally a few products to challenge every single EV car makers? Hell yes, I would. Wouldn't you?

      Brits don't help their global image by going full-on Little Britain when it comes to foreign languages. Jo-ze Mourinho (d͡ʒoze), Mitch-elin tyres, thats just dumb. Guess what, most ppl on this planet are not British and yet, they can more-less speak English. So why not make a little effort the other way?

    Awaiting the Ioniq 6 to come to the US. Been awaiting an EV that isn't a Tesla or an SUV. The sedan version of the Ioniq 5 sounds perfect. Let's hope it's not overpriced and there are enough to go around. I have owned four Honda Accords in a row.
