I watch most of his videos but this one felt special. This one captured the magic of old Top Gear. Spectacular, high-quality cinematography, crystal clear audio mix that lets in just enough of the road and engine noise without drowning out the presenter, and a light-hearted but earnest review of a great and pointless car. This was an excellent production and you and your team should be proud of it.
....Apart from i dunno Defender, G-Wagen, Wrangler, Grenadier, F-450, Jimny, Unimog, and another vehicle than can go offoad. Stop blaming the vehicle for the habits of those who buy them....
@BugattiONE666 The F450 is not a good off-roader at all, why are you mentioning it? the Unimog is not a civilian vehicle and is not classified as a car. everything else you mentioned, except for maybe the Jimny, can be blamed. They are all designed to be luxurious and comfortable as a priority, with off-roading as a second thought. They are all designed to appeal to mall crawlers. Do you think the 21 inch wheels and leather interior of a Defender or G-class are for off-roading?
What an antidote to a sanitised world. But was that engine smoking? And whatever the visor did for aerodynamics is - surely - completely undone by the four spotlights mounted on it! If I could afford a mad plaything of a car, as brilliant as the new one undoubtedly is, I think I might be tempted by a used original.
Decent review and cracking locations, 2 of my favourite places to drive 👌🏻 The new engine is a shame but they didn’t have much choice, otherwise they have done a great job addressing all the problems us original Nomad owners have had so this one should be a lot more robust and reliable
@ the original was basically an off road Atom and while it is incredible to drive there are a few things that weren’t overly thought through. The one storage space and all the electrics are in the nose and not sealed off so water logging everything or encasing it in mud is very easy, same with all the electrics in the dash etc, all just normal open switches etc. for the new one they have completely overhauled and simplified the electrics, waterproofed it all and made them nicer to use. Suspension points and other weaker bits like the mud guards have been reinforced, radiator is now v mounted and hidden rather than vulnerable at the front. It is a good job they have done with this one
Since it has the focus ST lump in it, I’d be willing to sacrifice some weigh if they could stick me the 4x4 system from the focus in it also. Now that would be fun.
@@AnyoneSeenMikeHunt not really, some could be stretching their money to afford the vehicle or buying it used. a better MPG would also mean being able to go further and longer before needing to fill up either letting you run less fuel and thereby less weight or get further away from civilisation which a vehicle like this seems great for.
Those HP and Torque numbers are pretty close to an old 3rd gen diesel ram, but much more responsive and moving a fraction of the weight. That sounds scary fast.
@ I think they don’t make enough and they don’t want to crash test them. They’d need several, to my knowledge, between 2 and 5 to run all the tests to get “federalized.” Just too expensive with how low volume they are.
@@JoshuaKoerner yes, that makes sense, but I just realised that I've seen people reviewing the Ariel Atom in the states, in california I think, and I'm wondering what the numbers are there? But, yes, regarding the Nomad, they can't make enough of them to meet British demand as it is, so they're not going to be appearing anywhere else, anytime soon. But, the 'ingredients' for this type of vehicle are all a very well known commodity, so there's no reason why some enterprising people in the US shouldn't start making them. They could sell well, right?
@ there’s an Ariel USA! They make them here! Just off-road / on-track only for both Atom and Nomad, unless your state has a means by which you can get it approved. Some states are better than others about it. Some refuse.
My interest was peaked when the Ariel Nomad was introduced. I quickly found out it is only rear wheel drive. Here in the Four Corners that isn't going to get you far in many common trial situations. Thanks, but no thanks. The Nomad isn't any more off-road capable than a VW dune buggy, which works fine in some situations, primarily due to the light weight, but it won't help climbing over rocky ledges.
Ariel Nomad 2 is still the hooligan it used to be ;) Would actually really love to see an EV version of it or Ariel to make a proper utility version with bed, towing,... Rory great video keep it up :)
There is the eNomad, actually. Not yet in production, but it exists. Still less than a ton, range of 150km, IIRC. But for such a fun car, that's not the issue.
at what point did Ford become garbage, I must have missed that while they were busy selling 4 or 5 million cars per year, about the same as Honda and I wouldn't worry too much, they went out of their way to buy Volvo which as far as I can tell was mostly so they could pinch the T5 turbo and learn how to make their own. anything even slightly volvo related will be bullet proof

The 2.3 is not* unreliable per se, just not as inspiring or characterful as the Honda unit. Not sure something this light needs gobs of low end torque but at the same time I’m sure it’s still an absolute riot to pilot down a gravel rally stage.
@@ALMX5DP granted, it does depend on what kind of 'driving' you like to do, but I always thought that having "gobs of low end torque" was a prerequisite for any good off road vehicle.
