Found one of these in my ditch line the other day. I hadn’t seen one before and honestly thought it was a flea market 25$ knife. Still I thought it was neat so I polished the blade and trigger, put a drop or two of gun oil down the slide cause it was derailing and got it functioning efficiently. Just out of curiosity about the hardware I image searched it and found out it was a Ultratech and the model I have is right under 500$ I’m grateful life threw me a bone. This is a really cool knife.
@@a.t.hustle1583sorta doubt it but I guess anything is possible. Clones are great nowadays and this company is known to be copied more than almost any other big name knife brand
The Ultratech is sooo underrated as an EDC due to the price. But in pocket and in practical use (especially with a drop point. I have three Ultratech blade variants) it is one of the best knives made for daily carry. So thin in pocket. Tons of room to slide hand by it. Outstanding pocket clip. Excellent steel options. Ridiculously sharp factory edge. Heaven forbid it is ever needed but has a valuable glass breaker that could save someone’s life and it would be a trustworthy option if needed in a defense situation; way better than a folder.
I wish that OTF can bee ewry day cary user : to work with dusty room exe. Electricity and it will bee on usable for working ,cos dust, will gunk the knife fast wery fast. And I realy like my Ultratech bat it is cool EDC beutuful and OTF for conversation, but not working EDC ,exe 940 Osborne whic I also i like is much more capable knife for that cind of work. And that are 2 knifes I realy like and cary with Victorinox Explorer+. And for protection , one thing too many mowies . If you see truble run beby run you haw shoes use them and yust run. Ewry knife is for self defence, but also is my rock so why go in confrontstion cos you haw that shoes and can walk out of that . Problem is when you opet it , than only you are is in problem . You will roin or hole your life or you will bee dad. So use that shoes and ran.You must bee a special human being to carwe the human being. And go home and slip like a baby.
@@mikeg3950 you won’t be disappointed and I doubt that you will ever want to get rid of it. Just my two cents but if you are getting for EDC and normal use (vs self defense) then buy the drop point or bayonet blade type.
I have one in the D/E Satin version, I can't do without it, it's so practical to use on a daily basis, the edge is great and it lasts a long time. It's very secure, with a snap of your fingers, you have a usable blade and the same to close it. The window breaker has already been used by me to save a dog locked in a car in direct sunlight during the summer. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world and I encourage everyone to get this beautiful and useful knife, the price can be a barrier to purchase but you won't regret your purchase, it's a safe bet.
Ive carried one for the last 8 years every single day of my life and i can tell ya......its the best knife ive ever owned. I was concerned with its ability to open and close as good as it does for as long as it has but ive had ZERO problems with this knife for 8 years. I have the 1st two models you displayed and the smaller UTX 85 and wont buy another knife ever again.
@@sideflip1343 I have a whole bunch of them and none of them "shake." My only real complaint was on the older ones, they used goofy proprietary fasteners that were incredibly hard to work with. But they've sense changed that. Great Knives.
I just bought a red ultratech w/ black M390 single edge. Great addition, extremely well built. I might get one in blue or all black as well. I really like this knife.
G10 Mini Troodon D/E is my EDC. Previously I was EDC'ing a Combat Troodon in the same config but that tends to garner a bit too much attention in some environments! ;-) Great knives, cannot imagine going anywhere without one!
I’ve bought and sold this knife a few times over. I haven’t had one in a few years. But they just overturned the Auto knife law in PA. So I ordered one from you guys last night!!!!
I’m from pa also!! And have wanted one for years but didn’t want to risk getting it taken from me if a cop were very to find it but now there legal so I just bought one!!
Nice, informative video. Have to be honest... Considering the prices these Microtechs command, I would have expected the biggest issue that _all_ OTF automatics suffer from to have been corrected; and some sort of external safety mechanism to have been added. Disappointed that neither is the case.
I've used an otf in this same configuration as an edc for years and never had an accidental discharge. It's actually hard enough to push that my wife doesn't like it. Have you tried carrying one and had an accidental discharge?
My utx-85 slider is so stiff it shreds the skin off my thumb if I cycle the blade more than three or four times. I just disassembled it this morning hoping to find dirt and grime causing the resistance - no such luck. I cleaned it out with alcohol, reassembled and lubed it as recommended. It's slightly smoother now but that usually only lasts for a few cycles, then it's right back like it was before. Pretty disappointing considering the premium price. I got an LUDT in today's mail: excellent fit and finish, perfect edge bevels. I'd much rather carry the LUDT - personal preference I guess.
@Crusty_Otter how'd you get one in the mail? I don't see that as an option on their website. I'm trying to find a good list of knives to potentially buy
There's really no need for safety on double action OTFs. Blade deployment takes a strong and deliberate motion. Honestly, they are safer (and more convenient) than folding knives. Plus, like the guy here demonstrated: on the off chance that the blade does deploy in your pocket, it's not going to do much damage. Now, the single action OTFs are a bit scary.
One thing no one talks about is slider Botton play. My Ultratech has slight button play when closed and dramatically more in the open position. My Benched Shootout has zero button play and is tight as a drum in both directions.
I've heard really bad things about the Benchmade Shootout. Seems you posted nearly a year ago, so I'm curious how it's held up for you? Have you carried it daily? Used it daily? How's the edge?
I purchased that Shootout 2 days ago and went and returned that piece of garbage to Sportsman and went to my local authorized dealer and got the Microtech Ultratech full size
The "button play" is a design feature on most of the more premium OTFs. There's a little spring that pushes the button away from the body in order to minimize friction contact. Never bothered me. Not a fan of Benchmade OTFs.
I am persistently disappointed with the diminutive dimensions and poor grip security of OTF knives available today. I would strongly prefer something with a longer, broader blade and pronounced finger guards.
They are getting bigger as a trend. Microtech's new Combat Troodon and Makora versions are 4". Heretic Cleric II is 4.25". Maxace recently released a killer budget ($128 shipped) OTF called the Neptune. It has a super wide 3.85" blade and "grip tape" like material on the sides of the 7075 aluminum body. It also has dual locking lugs for extra strength/safety. It's kind of taking the OTF world by storm.
These OTF knives shouldn't be wiggly, wobbly and lose when deployed. I mean the design is cool, but when the blade is deployed it should be stiff and still. It's a knife after all
I have an UT. Purchased about 5 months ago. It is well built, but really difficult to deploy and retract, certainly not one hand. Sent it back to Microrech and after11 weeks and some pushing they sent back. It was a tiny bit better, still not what these videos indicate with ease of deployment. While it was with MT for a problem solution, I purchased a Kershaw Livewire. Kershaw deploys and retracts as one should. Conclusion, Microtech enjoys quite a bit of undeserved hype or they just didn't bother to fix the problem. I will probably get the usual "you're not strong enough" BS, but don't have a problem with Benchmade, Kershaw, Hogue, etc. Blah, blah, blah. Microtech, great build materials, but horrible design execution or they didn't fix anything with the return. Either way, will not buy another one
Takes lots of pressure to set one of these off 😂😂😂😂 I know because I had to get use to mine I flicked mine till skin came off next day i can flick it like nothing 😂😂😂 some people takes a week 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I told myself hell nah time to get use to flicking ultratech I literally sleep with mine
