Rescuing a flying-fox hanging low on a tree: this is Linti

- LInti is an adult female Grey-Headed Flying who was found on the ground and who climbed low onto a ti-tree trunk. Close by on the road was the dead body of a young juvenile; I don't know if it was hers, or that the little one was coincidentally in the same place. It's quite possible that it was her baby and they were flying out together and both suffered the same accident flying too low near a road; it's not something we will ever know.
It looks like Linti has an issue with her elbow but I need to get her an xray first to see what's going on. I think it has probably been dislocated; it doesn't feel right to me but I can't tell yet.
I chose her name in the kind of roundabout way my brain throws up suggestions; she was on the corner of Highcliff Lane, and I immediately thought of Heathcliff and his love, Cathy. Cathy had a bunch of surnames from Earnshaw (maiden name) through to Heathcliff and then subsequently Linton. I thought Linti sounded nice for her, and then I called the little juvie Cathy because I need a tag to remember my bats as individuals with stories, even for a life cut short.
Here's hoping Linti survives and the injury isn't serious.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.

Most of them seem to recognize immediately that you're their Helping Angel ❤
It's good to find a fan out in the wild. Hope Linti gets better.
I love your comment! I never use “lol” but your comment did indeed make me laugh out loud!
God bless you!
@@carolynnunes3922 Thank you, Carolyn. It's always good to hear from you.
@@keldaogg2157 🙏Thank you, dearly beloved! You made my day! Thank you for blessing me!

Carolyn, I use LOL rarely but sometimes it's appropriate.
Thank you again for another rescue. Beautiful
I love how she's watching every thing you are doing.
So cute watching the pink tongue working the glucose
They tend to be very vigilant because it's their personal safety they're watching out for.
Wishing speedy recovery to Linti ❤🙏.
So glad when I checked the description Linti still has a chance. Sorry little Cathy. Free now. It was so cool that guy was a fan! You should be getting more recognition! All the carers. Everyone who is helping wherever. Thank you Meg. I hope Linti gets to fly away and soar back to her colony🙏🏼🖤💔🦇
Bless Linti's heart!🩶🦇💓 I'll keep positive prayers her wing will heal and she'll go on to survive. I am so very sorry about juvenile Cathy.🦇😓💔 People know you Meg and totally respect you too!💕💕
I agree with you. Respect.
I felt an immediate connection with Linti. I really hope her injury is survivable.🤞
Me too, but I doubt it; she has an xray tomorrow.
@@Megabattie if not, I'm confident that, you will make what time she has left comfortable.
I love how gentle she was especially when she licked her elbow after you cleaned it as if to care for herself too.
LOL they often do this to get the evil human germs off; she was just helping though...
What a good patient! Here's hoping for the best...
RIP: Little Cathy. Linti...I hope you do well! 😇❤🖤🦇🖤❤️
Best wishes to the bat 🦇. Rip to the other bat 🦇.
She’s a beauty! I fell in love with her, as I do with them all!
God bless you, dearly beloved Meg!
I love them all but don't get attached till they've had at least 3 days of survival.
Good wishes to Linti. I’m glad you could give her some sugar, comfort and safety. Like everyone else here, I’m really hoping her arm problem is a fixable dislocation, not an unfixable fracture.
Meg, watching you gently cleaning her wounds and her trying to help...words fail. You are a sorceress.
She was happily cooperative and at this stage she knew I was helping her.
I needed to see where all the blood was coming from and what the elbow issue was
So amazing and smart, you and the bats.
What a beautiful battie…… I hope she is ok 🤞❤️
You've got more fans than you thought! Of course, the bats appreciate you and we do too. Good luck Linti!
It was a surprise that a regular person doing regular work in the community knew my name and videos.
❤❤❤🦇🦇🦇 good luck darlin girl! Here's hoping you're a survivor!!!💕💕💕
RIP little Cathy 😢 fly high 🌈 Blessings to Linti. Such a gorgeous face! 3:14 💓
How kind of her to assist you in cleaning the wound in her state of stupor. It's not great to see her in the same position after an hour, get well soon little Linti! RIP Cathy.
I suspect she wanted to get teh evil human germs off her body...
Good MOPs - even better when they're fans and know to call asap and stay. Hope Linti's elbow is ok. ❤🦇
Such a pretty gal. Sad about the little one ❤. Hoping she recovers
God love her, she was trying to help you clean up her elbow. It brought tears to my eyes. All that and lost her baby too. 😭 💔🦇 🙏
Amen! Am awesome mom bat!
God bless you!
Was Cathy her baby? Linti doesn’t appear to have swollen nipples, and Cathy was bigger than the babies that hold onto their mums.
@@SuziQ.Meg said she was a juvenile, not on her Mum, but possibly flying out with her. Whether she was Linti’s baby, or just a flying buddy we will never know for sure. Sad for two bats to be hit by the same car, but they must have been flying very low.🖤🇨🇦
Carolyn, I don't know if this is her baby or a random juvie who got tangled up in whatever happened to Linti
Suzi, I don't know if Cathy was her baby; Linti didn't have any milk in her nipples but she may not have been lactating because she was pregnant again and had stopped feeding Cathy.
Poor girl. I hope she will be ok
The way she is looking at you ❤ she knows you are there to help. You must be a whisperer.
I think of Meg as the Fairy Batmother…I think they do too.🖤🇨🇦
Fly high over the rainbow littlle Cathy🦇🌈 Wish Linti a fast recovery, with your precious help, dear lady Meg🌺💝💖❤❤❤
God bless you Megabattie for the wonderful work, love, care and respect you provide those beautiful creatures with! I wish you blessing every single day of your marvelous life! Thank you for helping those lovely bats, thank you! Greetings from Mexico City!
Thanks Karla.
Everything crossed for Linti to be a survivor ❤️
Hang in there Linti!
Much luck Meg. 🇨🇦🦇🍁
What a beautiful Calm momma, she knew you were helping her. Wishing her a speedy recovery. RIP little juvey. Thanks Meg ❤ x
They’re such lovely creatures. And I love the way she’s looking at you while you’re cleaning her wound. Full of curiosity.
I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am for these sweet batties, that they have you to take care of them. You are a blessing ❤
Thanks Laurie. I just do my best which isn't always good enough but sometimes is all I can provide.
Poor bat I hope she gets better soon. ❤️
Oof, her poor elbow. Fingers crossed it's survivable! 🤞
Realistically if it's an elbow fracture (bad) or a dislocation (bad in a different way) it's not good.
I hope Linti's wings are ok
It's doubtful Paul; x-ray later and we'll see but I can feel clicking in her elbow and even if it's not fractured it is "wrong", and a dislocation carries a heap of soft tissue, tendon and ligament injuries...
Rip sweet Cathy, your life was so short! Linti is also sweet girl: she helps you to clean her wounds!! I hope her issue is fixable
Your work is well known meg and you have more fans than you realise ❤️
So sorry for the little one, I hope Linti pulls through.
Sometimes I think the trust breakthrough comes when you help them groom, not just from juice.
💓
So cute❤
She is indeed beautiful! I did notice your Furby there by the scale Meg, I still have mine as well. 😊
My Fixy-McFixit guy just fixed it and I"m testing it out; it still works.
I bought mine in my 30s because my nieces wouldn't let me play with theirs.
That is a serious tissue gouge out over the elbow. Hope she gets along well.
It's a tiny little slash or tissue split and not serious at all; the whole tissue is just bloody and hard to examine closely and easily,
Какие они беззащитные на самом деле😘
That is so cute, the bat is a wild creature and yet she wipes the wound right along with Meg. Without being ro scared or trying to bite. So beautiful these creatures.
I think she was trying to groom off all the human germs.
She was scared and stressed but had started to trust me; she'd also run out of adrenaline so was just doing her best to stay alert.
Hoping all will go well for her.
I had an xray done; her elbow was dislocated and as an injury, this isn't fixable for bats; she was euthanased
What a well behaved little soul, very interested in what you were doing, Hope all goes well ❤
Not well behaved, just smacked head and exhaustion and an elbow injury.
I was sad to see little Cathy dead in the road before her life really began.🌹Linti is a very pretty, and frightened lady, I do hope her elbow is not injured beyond repair. Her biting at it was worrisome, and that was a fair bit of blood for a bat. They must have been flying together. That was a very nice MOP, and I’m glad he got to meet you and see you at work. Hoping for the best for Linti.✨🖤🇨🇦
When I got the call, they said it was a mum and baby, and that the baby was dead; I was hoping that it was a very cold baby on a mum who was in trouble. But the baby was a juvie and far too big to be being physically carried by her mum, so either the baby was hers and flying out with her or the juvie was with a bunch of bats when mum bat Linti and little Cathy were either destabilised in flight by a car or hit.
WE never know the story unless someone witnessed it, but that's as far as I can tell.
This rescue call came by a circuitous route and the first thing I know is when someone phones me (unknown number). I actually answered it (I don't usually and I don't know why I did this time); it was someone who got my number from someone else.
It's fine though.
@@Megabattie I’m glad that worked out, I never give out a phone number without permission, and since my stalker, my number is unlisted and doesn’t show when I call. I hope You had good weather for the weekend, and I really hope Linti does well, she has such a lovely face.🖤🇨🇦
@@tamarrajames3590 I don't hide my number but then again I haven't had any issues. I call MOPs and don't have the number hidden, so they can call me again if they have an issue.
@@Megabattie I am glad you are able to do that, I didn’t use to have to have an unlisted number either, but we just have to roll with what life sends our way. It is good that people can follow up with you on battie issues too.🖤🇨🇦
I can always block a MOP later if they're pests, but I get a few repeat calls from MOPs who have saved my number and call a year later with another bat...
Best wishes for Linti. I will cheer for her. She is very cooperative for a wild animal, truly intelligent. I am newly hooked into your vlog. I love the care you and your friends do for them.
She's not cooperative, she's just exhausted by her ordeal and has basically given up; having said that;: bats are really smart and socially intelligent which means they will assess me on my behaviour and management and will decide if I can be trusted or not.
She's in a great deal of difficulty but she is giving me a chance to care for her without argument.
Welcome to Megabattie,
I put lots of information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, at the time I put the video up. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care.
There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies.
You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow.
There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions.
You're becoming well known Meg. :)
LOL not really well known in my area - this is the first person who has known me and known my channel; good to keep me humble
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Aww poor little mama.
I can't believe how quietly she allows you to examine her and press and squeeze and manipulate. (And you'd said nothing about head trauma). I would have yelled! You really won her trust very quickly.
Oh she's definitely smacked her head as well but what i was concerned about was the damage to her elbow; the head trauma was a matter of wait and see how she goes with supportive care, but the elbow thing was critical
I suppose she'd have a thumb tag if this were the case, but Linti seemed so amenable to being handled (especially for an adult) that I initially had the idea she might've been in care before. Will be hoping her x-ray goes well.
I suspect she probably gave herself a great whacking headache in whatever mishap she had and that's why she seems so amenable. Probably a little too dazed to kick up much fuss.
@@FirefuryAmahira I think that "something for pain" is that really good stuff. 😊
@@b.a.erlebacher1139 Ha, probably. But I was actually referring to her behavior from the outset...... before Meg had the opportunity to dose her up. 😀
She could have a microchip.
She had no thumb band and no microchip so she wasn't hand raised.
Thanks Sasser
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
That elbow looks like it hurts.
It looks bloody because there is a tiny cut on the elbow which has bled into her fur and along the bones; at this stage I don't know what's going on there but I do feel there is a dislocation with associated ripped tendons and ligaments.
Glad she made it this far. If the joint is dislocated, can they get it back into place?
It's actually in place, it's just that dislocation injuries always affect the tendons and ligaments, which means the bat needs it to be immobilised but then it ends up with a stiff and non functional joint.
It's tricky.
@@Megabattie Well, crossing my fingers for this one.
Meg, when you said Ti tree, I thought it was those skinny young reddish trees that are popular here.
It must have been fun for your fan to meet you.
What is that construction noise? Is it in your condo, or nearby?
Fingers crossed for Linti’s elbow injury. I hope she gets better, and can fly again. I’m sorry about Cathy. I didn’t see swollen nipples on Linti. 💙
The Ti Trees/Tea Trees/Melaleucas/Leptospermum are confusing to me; I can tell callistemon and Grevillea and Paperbarks but there are so many species I get confused; you will have to google the images and make your own decision as to what they are.
Gregg's my amazing handyman whom I have had since I moved here over 20 years ago, was ratproofing my balcony screen doors so the rats who like too come and eat my plants and pantlings don't manage to squeeze themselves into my home; I have been keeping him busy with "JOBS"; he always says: why is when you have a good idea, it means a lot of work for me..?
That's just the way it is with us; he's not cheap but he does a PROPER job.
@@Megabattie ,
Thank you. I think our “ti trees” are different from the Melaleuca family. I’ll look them up. They’re often house plants.
My house needs an experienced handyman.
So much blood for a little thing

Name er bat Linda instead of Belinda
Her name is Linti. The story of her naming is in the description.
Hi Deelask
I don't take name suggestions from viewers because people then plague me with suggestions.
I didn't name her Belinda or Linda because it wasn't relevant to where she was and didn't give me a mental tag in my brain as to the exact individual bat. Please read the description to see why I name the bats what I name them.
I name the bats (because I need to in my mind) and you have to deal with this because I can't deal with all the people plaguing me with what I "should have" named the bat.
I need to have a link to the location in my mind so I remember each bat for their location, which gives me their story and a name and a proper memory so I know their story.
Thanks Suzi
