    Can you make the Orange TH30 metal?

      Nice! Love the GupTech pedal. I have an Angel Reaper...3-circuit combo, has the same Honker Hot Rod that's in your Mad Honker...killer tones Jon!

    I personally thought the RAW tone was better, definitely less modern but gave me a feel of the early to mid 2000s hard rock/post grunge heavy tones. The stuff that took a lot of influence from metal at the time just wasn't as heavy. A lot of them used rectos at less aggressive settings, which are not that tight either. I don't think it sounds like a recto but it would fit in the mix with one.

      Yeah, the raw tone was killer.

    The metal tone cut through the mix much better and definitely sounded modern. That said I do like the original tone because it has more of that orange character that is pretty cool. Different tools for different jobs both are awesome

    I honestly think the raw sounds awesome and to my opinion better than boosted, it has that chunkyness and a unique sound.

    I don’t know why but I keep hearing tones of the In Flames Foregone album from the Orange bottom end.
    Which I think is one of the most sonic and amazing album tones of late.
    Another awesome review - guess Orange is next in the arsenal

      Got a 15W Jim Root Terror in great condition on a trade and it's become my favorite tube amp. Orange is massively underrated, and have an awesomely gnarly tone for metal, doom, stoner, grunge and alternative rock.

      @@mofomartianp Agreed! I bought a Micro Terror first (my 1st Orange amp) and had my jaw drop when i plugged into my Marshall 412 and that led me to wanting the Dark Terror and now 16 amps into my collection the Dark Terror seems to be what Ive been going to the most... although im super stoked on whats coming out of the OR15 now too

    I came to similar setup with my Orange Terror Stamp. On its own it’s pretty fuzzy at high gain settings, but tube screamer in front and proper IRs after make it sound so much better!

  • @mrcoatsworth429
    @mrcoatsworth429 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome video! Sounds great!
    One point of criticism, though. I think it would be better to use the same IR for both for such a comparison, since the tone as a whole is so dependent on the cab. That would also be more useful for guys with real cabs who can't or don't want to simply switch the cabs or speakers, but still want to make their amp more metal. Instead, I would love to see more of your process for dialing in that boost pedal :)

  • @needsLITHIUM
    @needsLITHIUM ปีที่แล้ว

    When it comes to boosting amps, I like to dime the volume, pull the tone knob back a bit, and actually turn up the gain knob to add a bit of dirt, but usually not so much the a passive neck pickup like a GFS Dream 90 or Vintage '59, Duncan STK-2 Hot Stack, Cool Rails, P-Rails, Phat Cat, '59 Model, or Li'l '59 isn't still clean on the clean channel with the boost engaged, so I can just leave it on. This works really well with pedals like the Precision Drive, or any other overdrive with a built-in gate.

    I find that simply running a 10 band EQ through Loop does a TON to tighten this amp up.

    • @JohnWiku
      @JohnWiku ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been preaching about this for a long time now, almost everyone just dismisses the power of an EQ through the loop, it's the ultimate amp tone shaper, other than changing the speaker!!!

  • @DanielHatadi
    @DanielHatadi ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome concept, really interesting to hear the changes. I would personally love to see a similar video on the Marshall 2525H. While it can get quite metal it still seems to benefit from a boost in front. I think it sounds better with a boost than using the rhythm clip on the lead channel. Anyway, thanks very much for all these educational videos! I find them addictive. 😁

    Yeah this amp can truly do it all, and I gave up mine in a trade, but it was worth it. i was condensing my modern amps and the TH30 was just too similar after being boosted to my Mesa/Boogie Mark III, Peavey 6505+ 60watt, PRS MT15 (but actually not as modern), however I do miss that Orange flavor when boosted lightly....miss the Doomy sound

  • @timmy2timed616

    That pedal through the fx loop would be radical.

  • @bcisn
    @bcisn ปีที่แล้ว

    The mids from boost definitely help it cut through a bit more, but to me it just sounds like the bass was backed off an mids kicked up (don’t need a pedal for this). Don’t think one is better than the other, just different flavors.

    Aren't the track doubled?

  • @CinemaPuree
    @CinemaPuree ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried the TH30 thinking it would need the extra volume compared to the Dark Terror, which I already own. What I found is that the TH30 is indeed louder and sounds similar to the Dark Terror, but the Terror can get insanely loud for it's size, and that made more sense for me as a portable small-gigging solution. Also a question... I've really been looking forward to a review from you on the OR30, assuming that since your such an orange fan-boy :) that you'd review it right away. But so far haven't seen it. Why not? (hope you don't mind me asking). BTW love the channel!

      @hihowareyouitsme of course not but I can't buy every single amp that gets released. I hope you understand that. If you know my channel you know that I do plenty of "unsponsored" videos too. I buy a LOT of gear but I can't buy it all... I fail to understand what this matters in terms of "authenticity". If a video I sponsored it doesn't mean that I'm dishonest. Fwiw
