  • Five years on from the law change, fewer than five patients
have been issued unlicenced cannabis medicines through
the NHS, in comparison to 140,000 private prescriptions.
We will reflect on the developments over the last five years
and discuss what the future of cannabis medicine looks
like in the UK. Is it time to be realistic about taking the
pharmaceutical route if we want to see wider access on
the NHS? Or should the medical establishment embrace
the holistic, patient-first approach to healthcare that
    cannabis calls for?
    Panelists:
    Adrian Brearey
    Rowan Thompson
    Luisa Searle
    Helen Beckett Wilson

We need to be able to grow our own . The government have done nothing in 5 years, the price and quality are horrendous. Why would growing your own have to stop seeing the doctors?

Medical cannabis Must become much more affordable for us patients as we need to go through the private consultations route via medical cannabis clinics. And the variety of cannabis needed is often not in stock tbh I have been waiting for over 3 weeks and still waiting for my medical cannabis to be delivered to me via Royal Mail and it should be with delivered to me and it’s supposed to be with me by 1pm it’s now past 1pm & still haven’t received my medical cannabis.. I’m so upset about and very frustrated as I am in constant pain & I really don’t know what to do 😢

Far more harm has been done to patients by the products of pharmaceutical companies than has ever been done by cannabis to even recreational users. Let us not forget the enormous for harm and the very low efficacy of most pharmaceuticals. Cannabis is way less harmful, way more effective in many circumstances and treats clusters of symptoms in a way that almost no pharmaceuticals can.
We need consistent monitoring of patient health, but patients who wish to grow their own should. A patient with a garden could easily grow enough for the whole year with a handful of seeds and a reasonable law. The kind we do NOT have currently. We treat cannabis like crack cocaine, where we should be treating it more like sugar - though cannabis is less harmful than sugar for most.

I wonder does Dr Searle "bring two hats" to care for patients? Or perhaps a cognitive dissonance.
How some one can be a medical cannabis prescriber on one hand, and a substance misuse physiatrist on the other is somewhat hard to grasp.
The former trust she worked for is still treating cannabis users and prescribed patients as drug abusers and reuse to engage.
