      Everything was exposed on my MK2 Clio and when i had the engine bay jetwashed it later ran on 2 cyl's as water got in the spark plugs and coilpacks. After taking them all out and drying them off it ran fine again. I now have a 2005 Corolla with the coil packs and spark plugs hidden underneath the engine cover so no chance of misfiring when jetwashing the engine bay. I do mask off connections, alternator and the battery though.

    Great vid buddy, i have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee which is in desperate need of an engine clean as its had an oil leak for a very long time and the garage refuses to wrk on it until its been cleaned lol. i noticed that you left the engine cover on, the v6 in my jeep has a plastic engine cover but needs cleaning underneath,do you think its ok to remove it and clean whats under there?
    when you say cover up major components does that include any exposed drive belts/fan belts etc?
    other than battery/alt/intake i cant think of anything else that would need to be covered. some people say cover up all electrics including all plugs etc but surely they get exposed to water splash on the road.
    keep up the good work buddy

    Very impressed. Also, what are you using to protect the battery and fuse box?

    • @robertmaybeth3434
      @robertmaybeth3434 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since there's no answer allow me to add my 2 cents. I used to work for a fleet, cleaned many an engine, and experience taught myself a rule of thumb on this: when in doubt about spraying a water-sensitive component (alternator, starter connections, spark plug coil area, fuse boxes), cover it up water-tight as you can get it then go clean the engine as you will. And either clean by hand with brake cleaner or some such or else simply leave that part dirty.
      I know this might not be an option if this is your customer's car - but since nowadays the only engines I clean are my own, that is what I do.
      It only takes one time of not being able to restart your engine and you will become a real stickler about this. And that's also the main important reason to do on a warm-not-hot engine as it helps the water evaporate much quicker. Also I make a point to have compressed air at the ready too just in case.

      Thanks mate you got few options. First it depends on how bad the engine bay is and how delicate some of the components are. Eg classic cars need to cleaned by hand only. I've always added it as an extra and not as a standalone service. Engines like this one for example I would of charged around £50 but obviously wouldn't if waited till next day to dress engine bay. In America We Have" Do it Yourself Car Wash " Takes America Quarters However The TIRE AND ENGINE CLEANER is Really Nothing But ANTIFREEZE if You Can Believe That!!!😂😂😂😂😂 The Main Reasons I Telling You This Is Because Most Novices Just Spray and Soak The Engine Bay Without Covering anything and Do Not Disconnect The Battery. Its A Big Problem With New Cars With The Onboard Computer and It Just Ruins The Electronic Components in The Engine Bay. Just Some Useful information. Plus At Car Dealerships They are Starting to Use Just TIRE SHINE SPRAY to get That Shiny NEW LOOK and its Terrible To Use Because of The Chemical Compounds in It Especially When the Engine Gets Hot!!! With this technique, how safe is it in cars that are say 10 years old? I’ve stayed away from a full engine bay clean option, purely because of the risk to alternators etc.

      @epicautomotivedetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair comment. This video is based on modern day engines so I also have few more engine bay videos being filmed so I'm doing a classic car engine bay next month so that will be out in October / November time. You don't have to do full engine bay details you can also offer basic wipe downs with a citrus based product and your get a nice enough finish 😁

    Yum yum, I understand how it is, but it's kinda frustrating that product is always something not available for me even if it was a perfect one for my needs. If you do that same magic with some autoglym/meguiars etc widely available brand your videos would have much more views imo.

    • @epicautomotivedetailing
      @epicautomotivedetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that mate. I do feature Autoglym, turtlewax, meguiar's but I was at yum hq I couldn't exactly film on their property with Autoglym. My last detail video featured xpert 60, I've also featured alien magic, go Detailing in and pyramid car care. I also got valet Pro stuff coming next month. I only use products I like and to be honest it doesn't matter what shampoo you use etc there's so many that can do a good job 👌

    Well said ,cover the battery and alternator (if you can find it) don’t be afraid of water in the engine bay they are tested to destruction almost,there is no way a 70k car would break down because of a bit of water ,possible but unlikely ,I’ve never had any issues with modern cars .
    I used to be afraid also of doing engine bays but just bit the bullet on my own car and absolutely drenched it ,no issues since….👍

      The battery was already protected and and I covered it with cling film but as I said in many other comments we lost some footage as the file corrupted so we lost the intro too. Just bag up the battery it's simple
