Amen, Bror - Elektron Digitakt vs. The Amen Break

  • Elektron's Digitakt is primarily designed as a one shot drum sampler, but with a little preparation it can do amazing things with drum breaks like the Amen. In this video I show you how I use parameter locks and conditional locks to create a vivid jungle beat with Digitakt after preparing the Amen break in Ableton Live.

    you could use 1 sample and alter the start point , probably increments of 5 or 10 , depending on the loop.
    but individual samples is easy if you want them to loop , a lot less fiddling with parameter locks
    and you could load up multiple break samples and lfo the sample slot to go through them , and it'll sound mad .. advantage is that you only need to alter 1 x sample value to alter the entire break .

    This is one of the most inspiring and useful DT videos in youtube, thanks!
    But after experimenting with breaks for a while I ended up putting the whole breaks single sample files instead of chopping them beforehand as you did, then I either choose same BPM for my pattern as the break or adjust the break duration with tuning in SRC (so the full length is 120 and matches the length of a bar), and then I set length to for example 7.5 and use p-locks to set start position of each trig.

    • @jonnygordon2506
      @jonnygordon2506 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd suggest taking a break in a daw, and chopping ot to 30 equal segments (annoyingly not 32)... you can then very easily scan through each segment via push-and-twist with the start encoder which jumps start by 4 units. I slowly worked this out when i realised the max start value was 120, not 128 (120/4 = 30). Woth loops i normally choose two beats out of 32 to cut out to make it 30... Its a great way to save on project samples for a live set (whether breaks/loops or individual hits). For breaks, you can just leave the length to max, but for individual hits, you set length to "4" for no overlap. Peas

      One thing I discovered while going through this video...in Ableton, you could take the sample, Slice To Midi...then in the created Drum Rack, each Sampler device can be Right-Clicked -> Crop Sample. The output will show up. An alternative to using Arrangement -> Ctrl+E -> (move the transport 1/16th note) / repeat -> Export. Depending on your Slicing preset, you may also use the Zone tab in Sampler to Select All and Crop. (:

After I chopped it on ableton and moved it onto the Digi, my bpm was just the same as it was set on ableton? I had it all set to 132, and my digi bpm is always synced with lives bpm... ?

      BreakBoy45 Perhaps the sample I got hold of isn't the best quality. Unfortunately, I don't own the Winston's record.

      @Dacci Pucci
      For real, this fooll don't know about real jungle, probably likes those fake-Amen DND beats, saying shit like that. And probably, as you said, never heard the actual Amen brother track. Fuck that, dudes probably listening on his mobile phone, thinking it's thin cuz your sampling technique or cuz the digitakt, lol.
