This popular drum groove, the "Amen Break", is arguably the most sampled and looped drum beat in the world - so naturally we figured we needed to have a drum lesson for it! Not only will you be learning a vital beat for your drumming vocabulary, but you'll also be working on your ghost notes and bass drum independence as well!
i thought he was a drummer, but i guess he Issah Contractor
nick wilson Nooo😂😂😂
Clearly hes a contractor not a drummer, he put his china upside down. every time i see that i just turn the video off....
you're just ignorant.
Actually, a china symbal can be used both ways. The way he uses it has a VERY low life expectancy, but gives a bit more attack, which some people like more. If you don't care that your cymbal dies quicker, this way is not a "wrong" way... I can't spare the money to play them upsies, but I do like the sound more. Not attacking or anything, just stating my own experiences.
richogem awe did he offend you?
when he said "bumbumcattzktzkbubucattzkbumbumcattzktzkbubumcat"
I felt that
p p k tktkppk tk
how long did that take you to type and sound out
@@nemilu way too long...
@@cronix913 Totally worth it.
Im appreciating this
Is he employed here full time?
No Issah Contractor.
lol
Easily the most famous drum beat EVER!!!
Andrew Magee either than or just standard rock 4/4
Andrew Magee Funky Drummer is
SuperOldschool1994 nope, on the website “whosampled”, it is said that the sample is used in over 2000 songs, and thats only songs, the times it has been sampled is easily in the millions
is so standard that your ignorance is showing.
@@Mythical444 doesnt come close to amen brother
he's not a contracter, issah drummer
You have no sense of humor and neither does Nick. Both of ya'll are done!
Get out!
7:06 Amazing, you killed it
You nailed it perfectly: Power, precision, musicality and some grease.
The entertaining thing to me about the amen break isn't as much the break itself. But given that it was recorded, and all those hits that the original player played, you get wonderful sounds out of it. Then it comes down to breakbeats and how the person chops up the break. Really cool on a production level.
Missed a button. Great solo at the end though.
U PLAY DRUMS TOO WTF I WAS JUST WATCHING YOUR FIGURE REVIEWS
@@guccimane3713 sick
Nice
now lets hear it at 180bpm
Just play the video twice as fast in the end.😂

Yeah!
Excellent, excellent illustration & demo! As someone who comes from a written music background, I appreciated the clear notation along with the performance. Thanks for this!
I play this on my accordion.
How?
legend
God here
It's really simple. Just 3 notes
Thanks for sharing this Issah, very well done !!
Ghost notes are and will always be godlike.
They are the soul/sprit of music
love that slightly lagging beat, it's bang on but a tiny bit behind. junglist massive!
Massive!
I love this beat so much, thanks so much Issah
Yes Jared! Hip Hop and Funk are my favorite kind of drumming and music. Keep up the great work!
Thank you I will!!
@@jaredvasquez2851 huh
mind if i sample?
Sample the original one
Dont do that, plz
y
i'm sampling the shit out of this
It’s the most sampled loop buddy
great lesson I've been wanting to learn this for a while
6:08 whole thing @ 90 bpm
Long video. I am glad this man took the time to explain this historic rhythm.
You’re very talented, but upon listening to the origins it actually sounds as if the ride cymbal is actually divided into triplets (one two three rest) it makes the kick drum really pop on the double. It also enables you to play it more relaxed.
death grips pfp :D

lol i just listened to the original and there is zero mention or resemblance to triplets on the ride. the hell are u on.
This wouldn't be triplets but three 8ths with 8th note rest. However, what's happening is the compression in the original recording is bringing up the volume of the first three rides, while the 3rd is low volume because of the snare hit. Hope that helps!
cheers man, i kinda found that difficult to tabulate into my loopmaker in fruity loops, but got it, cheers for being clear
Love this 'Amen'!
Nice lesson Issah!! congrats
that rest practice on 7:46 hahaha, awesome!
One of my fav instructors!!
1:47 what i find the hardest about this part is that final snare drum. I can do the entire beat without that snare at the end!
The Bass is really nicely mixed in this video
A true drum classic!
Such an awesome teacher👍👍
Your teaching aptitude is pretty good (dang good). Have you done drum solo on an electronic /midi capturing instrument? If so, post about where to find them... If you haven't... You should consider doing so 😁
Awesome instructor !
Jungle music inside the building, drum and bass massive stand up!
Hey! Can someone tell me what's the Set of cymbals used on this vidéo please?
Cool! Очень подробно объяснили, спасибо
Videos like this make me wish I could play the drums 👍
Actually this video makes me more interested in his solo
+Melvin adriao Issah is an incredible drummer, bassist, and all-around musician. We love having him teach on Drumeo.
Very nice!
Excellent lesson. Tnx
Thought Jimmy Rainsfords lesson would have been posted by now. They said on instagram it would be soon but that was a whole week ago.
+fuzzylogiceire Patience! :)
If I join up for the monthly rate and then later decide I like it and want a o buy the yearly rate instead can I switch? What's drumeo edge is that different than the other regular drumeo membership?
+Larry Tate Drumeo Edge Membership is just that. Compared to the individual packs you can buy. Drumeo Edge gives you access to everything Drumeo has to offer. If you join for the monthly rate, you can switch to the yearly rate later on. It is more affordable to do the year.
Great Groove
Thank you, Issah.
Damn instant subscribe, man tellin me about mad drums and history
Awesome!
very well made
Thank you Gregory Coleman for this drum part!💯
It’s the drum kit that they used is why it sounds unique
Amazing!!!!!!
I'm coming straight outta Compton!!✊
The recording quality and overall tone of that Kit sounds really great. Maybe you should do a tutorial on recording a kit if there isn't one already.
This dude's awesome
Thank you
Dude is locked in at the end lmao incredible
Get this down and you have the foundation of hip-hop, UK hardcore, jungle, drum and bass, and breakbeat
I like this guy!
is there somewhere I can download a .wav file of your amen at 90? would be much appreciated!!!
7:10 on wards shows Issahs skills. Nice work.
Amén brother
Why am I not subscribed to drumeo??
Immediately subscribed!
The king if all breaks.
Man he did not have to go off that much at the end lol well played
Propper drumming man
5 seconds in....sick!
thank you very much :)
I came for the solo and was made happy...
What is the style of drumming he is doing at the end?
I don't even own a drum set and I play piano, what am I doing here
Run!
Same.
Except I _SUCK_ at piano.
buy a drum set
sad piano drum & bass
you took a wrong turn at trombone avenue
Nice tutorial, but Amen Break is all about the unique sound of the snare drum. I would try to tune the pitch a bit to closer resemble the Coleman's snare drum, and dampen the decay a bit.
Okay, but the lesson is on the actual music played, not drum tuning and mixing.
Please full version
I tried using Garageband on iPad, it's kind of there quite fun. Sweating a bit.
Speed it up to 160 bpm and you have every drum and bass song ever
I like this guy
this issah good video
to me, it always sounds like the 'Break' has a mess-up, when i hear the original track...but of course, when you remix it over and over, it can make transitions a lot smoother for other songs...
When I play these kind of beats I always like to throw in some press rolls on my snare.
Just listen from 6:10 to 6:32 it really saves time.
Thanks!
Nice, anyone can sample now your demo and use this as an Amen break 2.0
I knew Greg , heard him play live once, great drummer….
I wish someone could record an old drum kit now, as like The Winston's Gregory C. Coleman had at the end of the 1960s. And capture the character of the snare which is what we are looking for - that special Amen-sound that stands out so well from other drums. Someone who knows what set Coleman was playing on?
true
Instructions is clear, now I'm trying to make breakcores
Top buttons?
Все хорошо, но как сейчас добиться такого звучания знаменитого лупа amen?

Aidan Cook Yea it's very similar to it
KJ it's exactly it

YES!!!!!
Dillinja did great with the amen break.

Nice lesson.
At 1.25 sounds like he's playing a sick drum and bass solo
Issah bird, issah plane, issah contractor!

Jungle is massive!

... Junglist Massive
yes im in da massive bruv. original junglist
BOH!
Its not the beat thats important, its the recording technique and mastering that made the beat so punchy and useful as a sample.
Yeah but the beats been recorded 100p different ways because the beat is awesome
Well I need to buy a ride
your Kickdrum killed my Subs ^^
How is your name contractor?
