@@abirsanu There are plenty of desirable alternatives to these two cars. Honda’s current hybrid cars no longer use a CVT. They have 2 electric motors. One is connected to the engine and is used as a generator while the 2nd is connected to the wheels. The main purpose of the engine is to generate electricity, but in some situations such as high speed cruising, it is more efficient for the engine to power the tires. The compact engine-linked clutch delivers power from the engine to the tires enabling low-fuel consumption driving. When you press the accelerator to pass at highway speed, the clutch decouples the engine from the wheels and the engine acts as a generator to produce more power.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work all too well. In lower speed city driving it lacks the engine boost of power, so it uses the engine to charge the battery almost constantly. At speeds of around 50mph it switches to the direct engine drive and uncouples the electric motor, but because it’s a single gear that is ratioed for direct drive at 50mph, so at speeds above that, the engine revs quite high and the result us that it actually uses more petrol than the estimates say. I don’t know the numbers affected and it isn’t a complete brake failure but the wait time for parts is apparently weeks. Honda uses mechanical linkage for the AWD whereas Toyota's uses electric motor to power its rear wheels in AWD. If Toyota's batteries were drained, the SUV runs on 2 WD only.
A lot comes down to which is your closest dealership. Honda is 16 miles away Toyota is 300yds away. Toyota's warranty is far superior, on the off chance you should have any problems. The RAV 4 has Android Auto, for excellent voice controlled navigation.
I drove the rav and was blown away by its quietness and smoothness. Also test drive the Honda and was totally underwhelmed and found it very noisy at low speed in hybrid mode because of tyre noise ..I bought the rav 4 and I love it as it is so modern compared to the Honda which I known they have updated, but it has been around a long time and looks dated
What's in a name? Both hybrids can vary the ratio of engine speed to car speed continuously; so in that sense they have a "CVT." Neither has a pulley-based CVT, which is what can be unreliable. The RAV4's eCVT is mechanical; the rpms are split mechanically between a generator and the wheels. The "e" means that the electronics control this split. The CR-V has no mechanical transmission. The engine usually drives only the generator, and a similar split occurs entirely in electronics between the generator and the battery. In both cases, high revs occur under heavy loads because the engine is driving something else besides the wheels. And it seems nobody really understands EV mode. All of the energy ultimately comes from petrol. You aren't saving anything by running in EV, you are using excess energy generated earlier. and stored in the battery. The trick is, that it was generated more efficiently then. So the distance either SUV goes in EV mode is irrelevant; battery size only determines how much can be deferred.
I have a night vision problem. Which has stronger lights? as I can see, CRV has smaller front lights but unsure how other factors do. What’s your advice?
If your leasing Go with whatever you got a better deal on. I don’t think you could go wrong. If you’re buying and plan on keeping in a while I’m sorry but you have to go to Toyota. I would get CrV over Rav4 any day. When there is this type of review, presenters should also point out the fact of average price on some parts, for instance, the fact that Rav4 has the most expensive clutch price to change, don't believe me? Google it.
I have recently purchased the same Cr-v as shown, sr 2wd in white. i brought it online,(sorry What car) a nervous experience due to the amount of money but with their already brilliant feedback, turned out great in the end. I managed to save £5500 on the car (with extra's) and £3300 by sorting out my own finance. I don't want car sales man blowing smoke up my bottom when saving that amount of money. I owned a white 2013 sr 2.2 diesel before this (and a Honda Accord 2.2td tourer before that) which was far more economical. I really do like my Cr-v and is far better to drive than my old one. They both hold their value. It's just person preference at the end. If your looking for reliability, it doesn't matter which you buy. Yes you will have the usual tyres and brakes etc which cant be helped but that will by it. Not like bmw timing chains, turbos or service lights coming on, even though it was only in for a dealer service 6 weeks ago. Land Rover electrics play up. And who wants to pinch a Rav4 or Cr-v. Range Rover Evoque's go missing on a regular basis.
paul robinson Is the CRV noisy in normal driving (acceleration)? All the reviews pick up on how it’s really noisy when you accelerate or go up a hill but they tend to be flooring it.
@@richardw5179 No its quite. On the accelerator pedal, when its pressed to the floor, it has like a kickdown button you'd find on an auto. If you press the pedal down to the button, but not pressing it. its gives you round 80% power and is not that noisy. It's when you go to the floor and the power goes round to 100% that it gets a little noisy but how often will that happen. I've now sold that and guess what? brought another lol. Another SR in white but it has AWD and the Aero body styling pack. Handles a lot better than my old front wheel drive hybrid, feels a lot more planted on the road.
@@paulrobinson3528 Thank you for the reply. It was very helpful. For that reason, I want to get an owner's perspective. I am looking at the SR but 2WD. White or Grey.
Neither car looks that good CRV is plain and the RAV4 hideous I'd buy the Honda because it's more practical and comfortable both more important than looks.
Exactly Steve B, even after 20years of HSD car journalists keep calling it (wrongly) a CVT! It’s not a CVT, it’s a eCVT (electronic type continuous variable transmission) that works with planetary gears, everything a CVT doesn’t have! Forget in-car SatNavs .. they are overall pretty crap. Just buy a decent Garmin. Job done.
I like rav4
The crv h does not have a cvt..
Just from the film at the start.Doesn't the Honda look a lot smaller than the Toyota? If i could also make a small statement and that is the Mazda CX 5 would beat these 2 hands down.
A Mazda that’s funny. I’d rather walk.
@@loganbarr853 I agree you should walk to the nearest brain specialist and have yours checked. Take a moment to see experts reviews on the CX5 and then come back and apologize.

Umm, " The Honda is faster" wrong. The Rav 4 0-62 8..4 seconds as against the Hondas 2wd 9.3 seconds. The RAV wins the emissions comparison as well. As a company car option, the RAV 4 (105mg) CRV (120mg) offers a worthwhile tax benefit. It also has a much bigger boot!
The awd is 8.1 seconds
@@MrPeteJMc That it does. My wife MIGHT be getting an AWD Dynamic as a company car, only 101mgs.
I have the Excel. It has more equipment than the dynamic. All you get is a black roof and black alloys on the dynamic. Excel gives heated steering wheel, heated wiper blades on windscreen, memory seats and headlight washers. Enjoy!
@@MrPeteJMc Hi thanks for this, I have been mulling this over, Excel has real leather as well. Which colour did you get. If we choose the Excel, Grey or maybe white are under consideration.
When I inquired about buying there was, and I think still is, a long wait world wide. I was lucky that a white excel had just come in and the original purchaser had cancelled the order. So I have a white one. I would have liked silver though. Love the car.

New 2021 ford ecosport review
Por mas que se diga la crv tiene mas lujo rav 4 tiene un tablero muy simple
I would get CrV over Rav4 any day. When there is this type of review, presenters should also point out the fact of average price on some parts, for instance, the fact that Rav4 has the most expensive clutch price to change, don't believe me? Google it.
Stop complaining about the tires noise , they don't make em
Its about noise isolation
Rav4 has apple car play on all cars for 12 months
I have recently purchased the same Cr-v as shown, sr 2wd in white. i brought it online,(sorry What car) a nervous experience due to the amount of money but with their already brilliant feedback, turned out great in the end. I managed to save £5500 on the car (with extra's) and £3300 by sorting out my own finance. I don't want car sales man blowing smoke up my bottom when saving that amount of money. I get around 42.3mpg from it and don't drive like a fairy, spends a lot of time in sports mode and does get a spanking lol.
I will have a test drive first but as I tend to lease my cars, the garage that the car would come from is normally many 100s of miles a way. I feel like I'm wasting my local dealers time. For that reason, I want to get an owner's perspective. I am looking at the SR but 2WD. White or Grey.

Old hrv???
Neither car looks that good CRV is plain and the RAV4 hideous I'd buy the Honda because it's more practical and comfortable both more important than looks.
Nice..
Interior CRV is better build quality than the sticky rubber parts from Toyo in 5 years. It's of course all about taste...
the toyota has better build quality than the honda period
US market get rav 4 in 4x4 standard
hybrid trim only
Could you elaborate a bit more how Toyota’s hybrid ‘CVT’ work?
As I understand it, it's an e CVT which has a collection of planetary gears and electronics. It's not the traditional rubber band CVT of old.
Check your good friend Google...
Exactly Steve B, even after 20years of HSD car journalists keep calling it (wrongly) a CVT! It’s not a CVT, it’s a eCVT (electronic type continuous variable transmission) that works with planetary gears, everything a CVT doesn’t have! As What Car wants to be a reference, maybe they should push for more knowledgeable journalists...
@@WilliamTECH1991 Thanks, I got it right for once! 😁

Hi
I am going to buy SUV, could you please guide me which duv is the best with price around 60000 dollars?
TRY THE TOYOTA HIGHLANDER FOR IT"S EXCELLENT RELIABILITY AND ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM. HONDA MAKES THE PILOT WHICH IS RELIABLE TOO. THERE" ALSO THE SUBARU ASCENT (MY FAVORITE). All of which you will/should have $12,000-$15,000 left over.
Save your money and buy one of these.
Nobody notice that is difficult to get in and out from the RAV4? I test drive it today and I was surprise how low is the top of the car. I hat to low my head a lot and push the driver seat completely back to be able to get in! I m only 1.80 m tall.
Toyota better power train honda transmission problem
I think your review has way too much personal opinion thrown in. Js.
Which ever one you get your wish you got the other one
Honda still follow Toyota, with out any competition...
I'm just going to wait for the new pegeout 3008 hybrid better than both these cars
Hell yh and it is going to be really fast
Going to cost though.
The pug will be very interesting inside and a better drive.
But nobody buys a Toyota Hybrid for its excitement, they buy them for low running costs, high resale and astonishing reliability. Not reasons anybody ever cited for buying a Peugeot.
Haha, nice joke)
I'd pick the hatchback over these less efficient, less dynamic, heavier SUV
Rav4 is a clear winner in all areas compared to CRV. Honda has lagged behind once again
Toyota much better deal
I like Rav4, going to buy Rav4 AWD 😉👍, if you like other suv looks, that's your choice!!✌
Crv the best p👌
I would choose RAV4 and the CRV infotainment system is terrible worse than the RAV4
How is the infotainment system of CR V worse that the Rav4?
RAV4
Rav4 duh 🙄
