Mine is a 03 with 245,000 miles. The engine runs great but needs rear shocks. When you get repairs, do you get Honda parts or aftermarket? Also do you use a vehicle protection coverage like car shield? I've had to replace the AC two times in the last 10 years and a few other parts (catalytic converter). Really love my CRV but thinking about looking for a 2016.

My first car was a 2001 Honda CR-V I bought in 2014 off an older woman who had used it for church and groceries. In 2014, it only had 25k miles on it. I loved that car and took pride in taking care of it and would receive compliments about how well it was maintained whenever I got my oil changed or needed a new part or just by strangers at the gas station. Anyways, last month, someone was driving on the wrong side of the road and crashed into my car. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but my suspension was trashed. My beloved car is now in the junkyard in the sky. I'm close to purchasing a new vehicle, hoping for a 2013 CR-V. It's my first time interacting with a dealership so I've been researching up a storm. When we looked at our first SUV purchase in 2003, the CRV was our preferred choice over the RAV 4 due to the longer wheel base and more stable ride. Really happy with our choice - super reliable, tight turning radius, lots of room (full size spare is on the outside). Only downside is that it has been noisy on highway road trips, which was a widespread issue for Honda's in general for many years. So in 2012, when we needed to retire an old vehicle, we found ourselves comparing the two vehicles again, and picked the RAV4 that time. Toyota had extended their wheelbase, and it was definately the quieter highway ride. That was the last year that Toyota kept the full size spare on the back and it still had a "boxy" rear end, so still lots of room inside. We still drive both - the CRV for errands around town and winter driving, while the RAV4 is our preferred highway hauler. Both have been economic, reliable vehicles, and we expect to run them for at least 25 years before they are retired. Will be interesting to see how the two models compare at our next vehicle update - may find ourselves looking at autonomous driving capabilities and perhaps the distance they can travel on an electric battery charge or hydrogen fill-up.

We have a 2016 CR-V (100000 miles ) and a 2008 RDX( 170000 miles ) , the RDX is very comfortable for a long distance road trip (I mean normally drive above 1500 miles in a day), good for a windy or snowing day too, And the CR-V good for in town driving and shopping but not that well on a winy highway VS the RDX , the RDX has more safe and stable feel in a windy highway driving. Broke my heart having the vehicle totaled. Best vehicle we ever had. We also had a 2008 RAV4 with 261 HP V6 3 row seat. Also an excellent vehicle and a sleeper. Both Toyota and Honda made very good cars but when I first started working in the late '80's, I needed a reliable and yet easy to maintain so I went with a Toyota Corolla FX16 GTS hatchback. Drove it for 8 years with just regular maintenance but decided to give it to my little brother after buying a Toyota Pickup truck and drove it for 12 years. In the year 2000, I bought a 4Runner SR5 4x4 and still drive it today to tow my fishing boat around. Also bought a 2009 Corolla 4 door sedan and mainly use it for commuting to work. I still could not switch over to a Honda since both of my Toyotas are still running fine.

Glad we bought the 2016 CR-V locally-owned CPO with a great maintenance history. Very roomy and reliable...we love it. I think the biggest problem with almost any car is lack of maintenance and loose nut behind the wheel.

    The Tale of 2 Sisters:
Thank you for doing this comparison! My sister is a CRV girl and I am a Rav4 girl.
She loves her 2000 CRV, and i adore my 2009 Rav4 (both 4 cyl). Neither of us like the look/style and over teched newer CRVs or Rav4s. That we can agree on. We like the more rugged look of the swing gate and rear mounted spare tire. We both like the fun-factor, and both of them are easy to work on. (Although i really think mine is easier. 😉)
Ps. My mom just got a 2011 Rav4, and loves it. (I win! 😂)

Just stumbled onto this video, very nice! I use to have a 2014 Corolla LE, had it for 5 years & this last years I got burnt out with it! No room for a 6'2 guy like me, smacking my head trying to get in, knee always hits the cruise control, small trunk space can be frustrating at times, lack of power especially with the AC on & my cats who like to go on family outings didn't like the car because you can feel every bump & pull! Now I have a urban titanium metallic 2015 Honda CRV EX-L with the navi & full leather, I got used for $17,999 with 102,000 miles on it! Love how it rides, the power in the motor & the room is awesome! My cats love it too!

It's very interesting that you posted this today, Scotty! I spent quite a few hours riding in the passenger seat of a friend's RAV-4 today, going into the mountains and back (to see fireflies at dusk--"yay"). I was quite impressed. The climate vents are adjustable, but still diffused nicely so you don't feel that the AC is blowing on a certain body area. I'm exactly 6 feet tall and I still had a whole hand width above my head. The cargo space was plentiful for the four of us (my friend, his wife, son, and me with my big bag of warm clothes, shoes, OFF!, umbrella and tons of camera equipment). The ugliest crossovers come from Nissan, with KICKS and JUKE.

We have a 2018 CR-V Touring and we love it. I get on it at times and it's a blast. That motor with the CVT is just really fun. The adaptive cruise control and LKAS is awesome for not only long rides but city driving too. The ACC works great in stop and go traffic, for us old folks with hip issues. I can only pray we don't have the fuel seepage problem from the direct injection. Fingers crossed.

I drove both on test drives in 2020 and plumped for the new RAV4 Hybrid. The key selling point was the safety system. I got adaptive cruise control (If you have never experienced it, you shd try it as it is extraordinary), blind spot monitoring, rear collision crossing warning, speed limit monitoring, pedestrian/cyclist collision avoidance etc etc. Of course, these are aids. The driver must still be in control. But...the driving experience particularly with Adaptive Cruise Control is incredible. I think the new RAV4 Hybrid is an exceptional car.

I bought a 1996 RAV 4 in 2010. I still drive it. Best car I’ve ever had. Strangely, the lot I bought it from had a 2000 Honda CRV they showed me at the same time. It had fewer miles and might have been okay but I paid more for the RAV and have had no reason to doubt my decision. I don’t like the new ones as much and would probably go with another Tacoma if my 25 year old 250,000 mile RAV ever stops running
