I've taken 2 test drives of the Rav now. The noise under acceleration isnt great but watch how quickly it went from 50-70mph (4 seconds). 30-70 is sub 7 seconds. Its quick. That and good economy and interior space, and for floods it can wade 50cm (officially rated). Its great!

For me I calculate there’s a 2000-3000 saving per year the rav4 has over my current car. This includes savings in fuel, insurance and servicing. Over an ownership period of 7 years this’ll pay for the changeover plus I’ll be ahead with the residual value of the vehicle. So saving money is one reason people get this car.
The product is compelling because I can’t remember the last time the “performance” model was hybrid. From standstill the instant torque from the electric engine makes the car “feel” pretty quick.
Finally this is the best selling vehicle in the US (excluding trucks). This SUV outsells all of Mazda in the US. While you should take car reviews with a grain of salt, the market rarely lies.

I always enjoy your vids Mat, because you offer the feel of a car like no other reviewer. Like the tactile sensation of holding the door handle, for instance. Just an observation: in "Trail" mode, more power is sent to the rear wheel electric motors, to assist with uphill progress. In "Sport", more power goes to the rear to steady the car in low traction road conditions. Overall, the RAV4 Hybrid is the most economical, and probably the most long term reliable, family SUV on the market. The Mazda CX5 is more fun to drive, though, as is the Adventure version of the RAV4. The Suzuki Jimny is the best off road.

The drilling sound at 10:52 is auto hold function and also auto parking break. Already made 6000km on my new RAV4. I was skeptical in the beginning because we bought it out of necessity and price/quality ratio. But by now I’m getting really fond of it. Got few mods like HUD in the front, new grill, and few extra things for the front bumper, akrapovič exhaust heads, planning on installing catback exhaust. It’s a really nice vehicle that you love more after you start driving it.

Drove the XLE Premium version in white as a rental. It's surprisingly comfortable but the seats can get a bit stiff after a few hours of non-stop driving (especially on twisty roads). The 5.7 seconds 0-60 is also quite noticeable once you put your foot down, but for the average person you won't notice the difference between the driving modes.
All in all a fun car, very spacious and good knee and head room, along with more than enough boot capacity.
Fair note, the white colour will come off as fairly dirty after a few trips.

I did have the previous model to this as a company hire car for about 4 months last year. It was 2.5 petrol hybrid and for the size of car it is pretty fast when you have it in Sport mode. It was 100% reliable and I grew to love it, the only thing that was really bad was the infotainment and satnav which were SO slow. iT looks like this new version has a better system though so that is good news. I just wish it was a few grand cheaper as its out of my budget when I come to request my own company car. Mine was black with black alloys and it looked awesome.

My mom bought a 2021 XLE (in America) after a hit-and-run driver totaled her car and she loves it. 100% correct about it beeping and hollering no matter what you do, though. When I call her, I can hear it hollering away in the background for one reason or another, lol. She can't say enough about its safety features. Super important, considering why she lost the other car in the first place. She originally wanted a Honda CRV but fell in love with the RAV 4 at first drive.
