Hello Grace, your countermarch tie up techniques are very helpful; I recently converted my 4 shaft counterbalance Glimäkra to an 8 shaft countermarch and I’ve yet to feel the joy. The tie up is tedious and frustrating. I’m going to give the tie up a go with your way and hope it will be better. Thank you for all the detail you show in your videos.
Glad it was helpful! I tried 3 different tie up methods before I settled on this one. Changing the way we do anything takes time to adjust our muscle memory and can seem tedious and frustrating until we retrain our brain. I hope this way of tie-up makes it easier for you. Let me know how it goes!
I just changed the way my Varpapuu Karelia was tied up to the last way you showed us and yahoo it worked. But the threads did tangle I hope I have enough texolve to change again but you didn’t show how you tied the cords from the top lams.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you were "somewhat" successful with the previous method. With *this* method you connect the texsolv to the upper lamms the exact same way as the lower lamms (I demonstrate the upper lamms starting at 9:15 in the video). The only difference is when you bring the cord down be sure to go in back of the corresponding lower lamm. You can reuse the cords you used in the previous tie-up method for the upper lamms; you will need shorter cords for the lower lamms. Good luck and happy weaving.
I know I sounded dumb. But after I watched your last video again I twigged onto that. Like you I didn’t like the mess. The Karelia has been sitting in a container for 5 yrs and when I had my second Knee replaced I just didn’t use her.I think she was only used as a 4 shaft loom and was in pieces when I got her . I only had a 2 shaft loom at the time but wanted to do more. We packed up and moved and my partner and I thought a smaller 8 shaft loom would do the job.that wasn’t happening the tension didn’t hold and the brake cord kept coming off. So out of the container she came again but this time I wasn’t able to talk with an old weaver I knew, and have been trying to work my way into getting her going on 8 shaft’s with utube. Yours made sense thank you again.
Didn't sound dumb at all! It's hard in such a tight space to see what is what sometimes. I'm glad the video was helpful. I'm not familiar with you brand of loom but, based on the pictures I found online, it's a standard Swedish style countermarch loom. You should be able to weave pretty much anything on it. If there are any questions I'm happy to try to answer them. Do you have a copy of "Tying Up The Countermarch Loom"? If not I highly recommend it.
Thank you very much. This is just the video I’ve been looking for.
Glad it was helpful!
