Amaryllis in Winter Scarf Weaving
มุมมอง 6892 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I weave a scarf using an overshot weave structure. The pattern is called "Amaryllis in Winter" and is from the Jan/Feb 2017 issue of Handwoven Magazine. The warp and tabby weft is a 60% silk/40% wool laceweight (6,400 ypp) and the pattern weft is an 8/2 100% reeled silk laceweight (2,790 ypp). I had enough warp to make 2 scarves so the second scarf uses 20/2 Wool for the pattern w...

In this video I explain how to weave overshot and the problems I ran into while trying to weave a pattern from the Jan/Feb 2017 Handwoven Magazine called "Amaryllis in Winter". The pattern is a kit from Treenway Silks and specifies a 60/4 Silk/Wool for the warp & tabby weft and 8/2 100% Reedled Silk for the pattern weft. The warp is set at 28 epi and the pattern says to weave at 22 ppi (11 ppi ...

Weaving Strickler 8 Shaft Draft 13 Irish Poplin

This is the seventh (and final) draft I'm weaving on this warp from "The Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns" by Carol Strickler. The draft is #13 (Irish Poplin). The warp is a white 8/2 cotton. Hello, I love your videos! I am confused how did you put the lease stick in behind the reed? I do not have a shed!!!

    • @tangledwebsweaving
      @tangledwebsweaving 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I created the cross manually with the second lease stick. The first lease stick just slides in the loop and the second one I slide through after I manually cross the 2 threads in the read. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and Happy Weaving ❤️

    Hi Grace. I am thinking of getting a countermarch loom. Could i just use it as a rising shed loom for if i wanted to or does it always have to be used as a countermarch. Thank you

    • @tangledwebsweaving
      @tangledwebsweaving 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think technically you probably could use just the lamms that raise the warp threads, but you would decrease the size of your shed by 1/2 by doing that. I'm not sure what benefit there would be to doing so. Once you get used to tying up a countermarch loom it's pretty easy. But it does entail doing twice the tie-ups as a jack loom. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. Happy weaving!

      @chrisking9245 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@tangledwebsweaving Thank you Grace. Also, thank you for mentioning that if I just used a countermarch loom as just a rising shed loom that I would only get half a shed. I really didn't think of that 🤔. I have a baby wolf jack loom with 10 treadles. I did weave the stickler Turned Atwater Bronson lace pattern that you did in one of your videos. I did tweak the tie up because it was not weaving like your pattern but I got there in the end. However, the pattern required 12 treadles and I only had 10. I went onto Tim's Treadle reducer and got this down to 10 treadles but for some sheds I had to step onto two treadles at a time. This worked fine and the tea towels were lovely. However, I am thinking of getting a Julia countermarch loom but it only has 8 treadles and compared to my Baby Wolf loom I will be losing 2 treadles. Tying up a countermarch loom is not a problem but to weave a 12 treadle pattern on an 8 treadle loom could be an issue. I have heard somewhere that you cannot step on 2 treadles at once on a countermarch loom so that's why I asked if I could just use it as a jack loom. Could I step on 2 treadles at once if need be? I guess you have plenty of treadles on your loom so you may never have needed to go onto Tim's Treadle reducer 😅😅. The Baby Wolf is a great loom but it's really heavy and really noisy and not the slightest ergonomically friendly. I think it's got to go but there are definitely pros and cons with all looms. Sorry for this extra long message but I thought I would explain my reasoning for thinking I could use a countermarch loom as a jack loom.

    Awesome. I did this with my floor loom as when I was first starting out I had such a terrible time learning to warp... So I thought why not try it like I did with the RH loom.

      I tried this too when I first got a table loom after my rigid heddle loom. Knowing how to warp a multi shaft loom is important but sometimes it's easier and faster to do it this way!

      @@tangledwebsweaving I THOUGHT about doing a rag rug until I watched yours, now I need to think again. You did beautifully, rightful frustrations, patterned and skinnier strips, for your first rug - amazing. I will try one a little more forgiving for my first rug. Thank you for the eye opener.

      @madm0078 yes I should not have attempted one so complex for my first. My second one was simpler.

    I tend to be very I’ll use problem solver as the kind words to describe me. Actually I’m so stinking annular about what I do that I can’t deal with messes and mess ups. So one suggestion when you do your direct warping use rubber bands to secure your heddle, it’s very easy and you won’t have to put up with that jumping out of its crib or notches. Just watching drives me crazy 😂. You can make or buy a yarn base with a post to slide the balls of yarn, cones, or pre wound threads for weaving, it secures it very nicely.

      Thanks for the suggestions. I understand about watching someone do something that drives you nuts 😂. I'll definitely incorporate your ideas into my weaving. Thanks for watching ❤️

      @@tangledwebsweaving very sweet of you! I know not all suggestions work for all people. Recently I watched a video where a weaver used these rubber straps with magnets for tieing on the warp. Geez I bought them and tried them and for me a big yuk! 😂Have fun

    Thanks for the great idea snd appreciate the video. I have the same Ashford loom and haven’t used it much since I don’t have anyone to help me dress the loom to keep the warp taught. I have better luck keeping the warp tight on my rigid heddle loom using warping peg. Suggestion. . . It would have been nice to have the camera positioned where you were slaying in dents. Thanks again.

      I'm glad you found the video helpful. I also warp alone and use a system of water bottles to weight my warp. You can see me demonstrate this in this video (th-cam.com/video/GMU0_ICdtdY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yMWRNRa_4A-rlDRO) at about the 25 min mark. I use this technique on both the floor loom AND the table loom and find it works really well. I appreciate the suggestion about camera position. Because I'm my own videographer too it's not always possible to change camera position to catch everything. I probably could have positioned the camera a little better though. Thanks for watching!

      Yes, you can use this method with any loom. I've even used it with a floor loom for a short warp! Thanks for watching.
