You are the first person to explain how to actually tie the texolve. I’m trying to get an old countermarch loom working again

I hope my explanation helps! What brand of loom do you have?

I wish you could show a picture of the tie up. I understand that the tie up is opposite of a jack loom. I am getting confused between the Xs and the Os.

Sorry I wasn't able to show the actual tie-up. A countermarch tie-up isn't really the opposite of a jack loom; it's just different. Since a countermarch moves all the warp threads when a treadle is pressed there are 2 sets of lamms that either raise the shafts or lower them. You have to tie up all the shafts to a given treadle depending on whether that shaft rises or lowers. So I still need to know what the X and O means. I was taught that the O in a draft designates a thread that rises (like a balloon) and X in a draft designates threads that go down. So if your jack loom is a rising shed (the shafts rise when you press the treadle) and your draft shows Os in the draft, tie the shafts that correspond to the Os. If the draft shows Xs though, tie up the blank shafts. Hope this makes sense. Maybe I'll do a video on reading drafts in the near future! Thanks for watching.
