My son exclusively plays with his Switch as a handheld and I enjoy some Xbox cloud gaming on the tablet but would like to play on the big TV. The Ally X looks like the ideal addition although I will wait for the Z2 extreme version. just for those who plan on getting a ally x you dont need to clone your drive you can use the cloud recovery download from the bios to do a fresh install it should defiantly save a bit of headach.
Been debating getting once of these to both reduce my physical desk space in my home studio and have some mobile gaming to boot. Excellent video and honest opinions!
You don't need to use Turbo Mode with Gamepass. Silent Mode should suffice. The games get rendered on Microsoft hardware and sent to you via internet. Your Ally X just needs WiFi. Also no need for AFMF.
I also had the blue screen 3 days after cloning my drive to a new 2TB. In the end have to do cloud recovery as well and it has been good ever since. So maybe cloning is not good way. I also know of other Reddit user reporting the same
Hey, much of the trouble you dealt with during the SSD replacement could of been avoided. Upon buying the ROG Ally X, you could of immediately replaced the SSD for your 4TB SSD. Then boot into the ROG Ally BIOS and navigate to the "cloud recovery" option. This will connect to the internet and perform a fresh install of Windows with all ROG Ally X drivers and software like Armoury Crate. That way you would of had a fresh install with a correct partition size before even downloading your games in the first place.
You’re absolutely right-cloud recovery does make things a lot smoother. I actually used the "cloud recovery" approach in this video which I uploaded on March 1: th-cam.com/video/eFrFrUMVRlU/w-d-xo.html This time, though, I wanted to try a different method because it takes a long time to download all of the games I have. Even though it didn’t go perfectly, it’s important to me to share my truthful experiences, especially when things don’t work out as planned. That way, if someone else runs into similar issues, my mistakes and/or solutions might be able to help them. When I uploaded this video I left links to Asus' guide to upgrading the SSD as well as using Macrium Reflect as an alternative cloning method in the description.
So for the cloud recovery feature, do you need an account for that? would it install everything I need to get the new 4TB up and running once I install it? I'm asking because I will be buying the Rog X brand new with the 4TB SSD and tools to install everything, PLUS getting everything off my steam deck OLED and transfering that over to the drive HOPEFULLY hassle free 😕
Great vid! I read the Ally X cant perform better than 8GB VRAM due to GPU limits. Might be true and they say performance is at best when allocated 8 GB VRAM. Enjoy the beast!
Hi around 8:30 are you using an external controller to navigate? Or a mouse? If it's an external controller, how do you right click? Do you need to change any settings?
the main reason your battery drained so quickly on rog ally x was also due to the fact that you played with an uncapped frame rate. Capping the frame rate makes a big difference as the machine doesn't have to exert too much power of the GPU and CPU to get the game to run at variable frames. Its important to limit the frames by using a tool like rivatuner statistics.

How do you deal with installing the 4TB SSD with a brand new Rog X? Especially with windows install? No doubt I'm going to have to research for hours on that one 😞 I'm willing to install and remove the back plate as I've built my own pc before but I'm unsure on how to make sure it's up and running soon after Recovery key? What situation is that? All sorts of questions should be asked beforehand as we peeps are the ones that have to resolve this for such expensive hardware and time needed to get this up and running, don't know what to expect when I buy this for myself? it's a distraction for me on my personal issues but i would also like to know and plan for any mishaps before hand 😢 to reduce the stress 😬

@digitalmaus that is a good link BUT, when you pull off the back with the guitar pick, how do you get the connector off from the back so you can dismantle the rest? I don't want to force it and pull it, I don't have a clue on what I'm doing? I want the cable to come out without issues 😬 I hope it's not too much to respond to that at least
Hey I wanna buy one of these handheld but heard of the new x coming out sometime in June? Is it better for me to go with the cheaper option Z1E or ally x ? Z1e is 350$ in my area and ally x is 830$ what would be the better choice ? Is the x really worth the extra 500$?
I really like the upgrades Asus made to the ROG Ally X-the improved battery life, joysticks, dual USB-C ports, additional RAM, and the use of more common 2280 SSDs. All of that made it worth it to me. Only you can decide if it is worth $500 to you. But I still have my Z1e and I am happy with it after installing 4TB SSD via an adapter. But I love the updates Asus made to the Ally, ie. controllers, the new 2280 SSD which makes for easier storage upgrades, the dual USB-C ports, etc. Just know that there will be a learning curve going from consoles if you are not used to gaming on Windows devices. If you don't want to deal with Windows then the SteamDeck OLED is also a great buy. However, If you’re not chasing the latest tech, you’re in a good spot. While I like the upgrades in the Ally X, they’re not essential and I definitely would not pay full price. I would look for a used one (Best Buy has good deals on open box).

Hey man before i ask my question i just wanna say this is a great vid and a nicely done review :). Currently right now I am debating on which handheld i should get and i am so down to get an Asus Rog Ally except the main thing that worries me is the ssd card situation with the whole overheating stuff. Do you think getting an original ally is good and beneficial even with the possible problems or should i settle for a legion go, i just hope to play sparking zero and fortnite 😅, Thx again!
Choosing between the ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go really depends on what you value most. I play Fortnite on both, and they perform just fine. I usually pick the Legion Go because of its larger screen, and I haven’t had any issues with the SD card I use in it. With my older ROG Ally, though, I don't rely on SD cards and instead installed a larger SSD, which was easy to do. While I like the upgrades in the Ally X, they’re not essential for playing Fortnite. Whichever you choose, consider looking for a used one at Best Buy if possible-it’s a great way to save.
@@digitalmaus oh okok that’s seems good to know, i honestly wouldn’t mind either and i’ll definitely check out the ssd installation vid in a few. I may settle on the legion go just for the bigger screen and removable controllers but i don’t think i would mind the original rog if i could do the install thing on my own, anyways thx again for the advice!
I had gotten the upgraded version when it was on sale for $500 and the original was under $300. If you can wait I'm sure that would drop even more this cyber Monday. If you want an external GPU route. I think legion would be the cheaper option.
@@aaronhartmann7658 i might settle for the legion go personally but at the same time i do wanna figure out what is good for all purpose. I wanna play sparking zero when it comes out for example, if one of the handhelds can play it along with fortnite i’d be set on it yk, got any suggestions?
the cost of games vary greatly depending on the type of games you play. Best thing is to just go to Steam, Epic, or GOG and look for your favorites before buying your next system. Steam is my favorite platform and they have a lot of sales
Idk what to choose between legion go and Rog ally x I would use my device to watch movie , series and play game like Honkai star rail and slightly high demanding steam game I hesitating cuz the big screen would be great for watching show and a little bit I would like to have good battery and i play mostly on my bed cuz my bed taking a lot of space so there is no room for pc ( I don’t have a pc or any kind of handheld) guys can u help me to choose?
if youre gonna sit in bed and play, then get a legion go for the bigger screen. The battery wouldn't matter since you're gonna keep it plugged in most of the time, the performance is pretty much the same.
I think you are asking if you can buy this at Target Dept store? I looked on their website and it appears you can order the standard ROG Ally Z1 Extreme but not the ROG Ally X.
4k oled in a handheld is braindead... you would be getting maybe 1-6fps even if they upgrade to a Z2 chipset... 32GB RAM, higher SSD is very possible with oled technology but 4K is braindead... the specs to hit that resolution would increase the price to $3000+ mark Highest resolution possible would be 1440p and that would still be a lot more intensive than the current 1080p
at $799? but its lack of an OLED display is a letdown. At this price point, you'd expect better visual quality, and its 120Hz IPS LCD doesn't offer the vibrant colors or contrast of an OLED. This makes its value questionable compared to cheaper alternatives with better displays.

For some reason I’m not able to increase my vram past 8gb. Is there anything I need to toggle before I can do that on the Ally X?
Haven’t had that issue myself. on Reddit someone said they fixed it by updating their Bios
@@EricVicente-ez2xl for what game you need more than 8GB ? possibly you need to checkfor updates and apply them all
Yup update your bios thru either armory or myasus, i forgot
You have a black sprayed normal Rog Ally. It’s a very common thing
Hi great video 👍do u kno average how much to download games?? Thanks
the cost of games vary greatly depending on the type of games you play. Best thing is to just go to Steam, Epic, or GOG and look for your favorites before buying your next system. Steam is my favorite platform and they have a lot of sales
wooo.. What game is that? 2:32
Thnx..BlazBlue Entropy Effect
Can i play game by Hoyoplay in this one?
I have Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero using Epic Games
Can i get in target
How much it that
right now the Rog Ally X sells for $799 at Best Buy. Thnx for watching
@digitalmaus thank now i go to buy see ya
It most have been very difficult for Asus to take the time to add a kickstand huh? 😆🙃
Wow Helldivers 2 *_struggles_*
Can i get target
Can i get target pls say something
I think you are asking if you can buy this at Target Dept store? I looked on their website and it appears you can order the standard ROG Ally Z1 Extreme but not the ROG Ally X.
make punchmark high setting
Great video.. but this is way too much to do for someone coming from consoles
It's R O Gee
Wishlist for ally 2.
32GB Ram, 5TB storage, 4K Oled, 120hz VRR. Slightly improved triggers. Game over!
4k oled in a handheld is braindead... you would be getting maybe 1-6fps even if they upgrade to a Z2 chipset...
32GB RAM, higher SSD is very possible with oled technology but 4K is braindead... the specs to hit that resolution would increase the price to $3000+ mark
Highest resolution possible would be 1440p and that would still be a lot more intensive than the current 1080p
at $799? but its lack of an OLED display is a letdown. At this price point, you'd expect better visual quality, and its 120Hz IPS LCD doesn't offer the vibrant colors or contrast of an OLED. This makes its value questionable compared to cheaper alternatives with better displays.
I do not think others offer an 80W battery and 24GB of RAM, vrr. Do not forget that this uses 2280 NVMe, making SSD upgrades much cheaper.
🔥🔥🔥🫡
Those bezels though 😂
Eww “RAWG”… 😂
are you mexican?
