  • This video will show anyone with an Alienware Aurora R13 or R14 disassemble and fix the GPU thermal paste for better thermals. This Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste: amzn.to/3tlj69c is one of the highest rated thermal pastes on the market right now and we're going to use it to not only repaste the GPU itself but also add paste in areas there should have been thermal paste. This will bring down VRAM temps significantly as well and will finally allow us to mine crypto without the computer crashing!

    You can repaste all you want. The CPU is being power limited right out of the box. The supplied 120mm Cyro tech or whatever they call it is not sufficient to cool an I9 12900k. Dell's answer, power limit it. You wont get anywhere near 5.20 with it. 4.90 with the occasional spike and lots of throttle limiting. Dell have sold people a lemon that is unable to reach its full potential by design. The heatsinks on the board on closer inspection are tiny and look like they came straight from the XPS factory. The power supply also cant be replaced with anything other than a Dell one. Who else puts a tiny SSD in and then adds a standard hard drive for games storage on a top end pricey gaming rig? People need to understand with Alienware products if it breaks you better hope it is in warranty and Dell can fix it.

    Yes please don't over tighten screws. LoL. I stripped plenty of screws trying to install hardrives and removing a heatsink cause some dummy overtightened them. I like using ifixit tool kits. They come with magnetic screw drivers. They usually carry them at best buy too just incase you don't feel like waiting for shipping.I also got a neat set of stripped screw removing pliers. Has worked charms for me.

    Hey Justin I found something Interesting today I pulled apart my 3080ti from my r13 and it had thermal paste on all the same areas you put your paste in this video and there was a lot of it also.
    So it may be just the 3090s that have this problem or it was just missed on your 3090 I did reapply new h2 paste and it made no difference to thermals on the Gpu or memory thermals so the paste they used on mine was good and well applied I thought this was interesting. That's a great question Dennis, unfortunately I didn't. My GPU technically wasn't crossing into throttle territory in any of the games because the temps didn't reach those levels. Mining crypto was the only major performance improvement I saw. I suppose as the computer gets older and newer games push the GPU past 90C it will effect performance more. This is more to prolong the lifespan of the GPU and all the fans to not have to work as hard (which will also bring noise levels down)

    Hey Justin if you read this comment please suggest this to ROG. The problem with rog duo series is that its keyboard and trackpad so my idea is that the trackpad goes under the keyboard and the keyboard lifts and moves forward just like the new four side hinge so we will get a decent track pad and a full size keyboard. And a fingerprint reader just like we saw on the zephyrus g15 g14 m16 s17.

    Follow up mining numbers 24 hours after repasting: Before repasting with 80% power limiting and custom core settings in Afterburner, I was averaging approx 106mh/s but the thermals would still average 98-100C on the vram. After repasting, I was able to achieve 120mh/s while lowering my thermals to 92C. I'm comfortable with 92C so I decided to up my hashrate instead of pushing the thermals lower. However, for those that want even lower temperatures, if I go with no OC and keep the power limit locked at 80, it drops to 88-90C. Everyone's machine as well as their ambient temps in the room will result in different experiences, but this is my experience and doing this was very helpful for me. Essentially, whatever settings I was using and fan speeds, I was able to achieve 8-12C difference. Highly recommended.

      @@JustinTechTips Thank you! I’ll probably apply the noctua paste as you did to make gpu even cooler. Do you think that I’ll be able to do that myself simply following your video (I have no experience in opening computers and computer parts)?

    Can’t anyone just enjoy there computer without taking it apart and complaining-the pc is fine- it’s not the pc that needs to be changed it’s the owner --

      If you want to do some mining it's best to do this for sure. It's actually necessary to keep it from crashing.

    My R13 should be here Feb 3rd. Going to follow your instructions and order the kit too. Never repasted anything before. While I'm in there going to do the same for CPU as well probably.

      Hey, can you please let me know how it goes? I ordered a R13 as well but won't be getting it until next month. I'm not a big computer tech savvy guy but would be interested in doing this.

      @@teesmith501 Well my PC got delayed. It's now expected on the 7th. I'm going to test it out first and see what the temps are like stock. I don't wanna replace the thermal pads though lol.

      @@auclearwater Now I'm thinking mine's will be delayed as well. It has shipping date of March 15th, but based on what's been happening with delays, would not be surprised if it gets delayed further. I too will be seeing how my base setup goes first before doing anything.

      @auclearwater 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@teesmith501 Yeah I would expect a delay. Especially if you ordered a 3090 and/or 12th gen i9. I ordered a 3080 and 12th gen i7. So one step below that and mine was delayed.
