I bought my type R in 2017 because I loved the styling and the driving aspect is something I think most would have to experience. However, I moved to Japan in 2018(and still live here) and quickly realized the Type R styling is on par to this specific market. I see Toyota SUV's etc. that look just as "transformer" like but they just never made it to the U.S. or European markets. I do think over time this car will receive more love because it is unique and the driving experience will stand out as a great driving experience from this time period.

I think most people like the Type-R, *despite* its looks, than because of its looks. People are willing to keep their barf-bags handy when approaching the vehicle, with its loud design and most of the plastic vents being thoroughly non-functional, but once behind the wheel, get to enjoy the mechanical tuning and the overall magic of the package.

You can’t really go by the internet. My understanding is that the 10th gen is the greatest selling civic of all time and the reason why CTR are marked up because ppl are willing to pay it. I got lucky and paid below MSRP back in 19. But the car gets a lot of attention and in a good way.

Awesome car in terms of daily practicality and sportiness but the dealers are absolutely delusional.

Most absurd moment was making an appointment with Main Line Honda outside of Philly and when I got there they didn’t even have the car on the lot to look at and wanted me to sign with about 5k ADM, I honestly gave up on Honda at that point. @@Dance1617 people are paying the markup. If you check out the forums or used market in California you’ll see that many of the sellers paid on average 5k over MSRP.
I shopped for one for 2 years on and off, contacting dozens of dealerships in the process and sitting at the negotiating table with a few. The lowest a dealership was willing to go was $2k over MSRP with an additional $2k of useless dealership installed “packages” ($4k over). That’s with flawless credit, a fat down payment, and serious on-site offers to buy at MSRP. I hate the idea of paying sticker, but I won’t pay a dime over MSRP as a matter of principle.

It's definitely not just the west coast. Middle of nowhere dealers, basically everyone I call is either sitting on one for $10k to $20k markups (not even the limited edition!) or guarantees that any that come in will get marked up. Super off-putting.

Far and away the most enjoyable car I've owned, over a span of years that included Camaros, Mustangs, various Golfs, Subies, Acuras, and even an Audi S5. Despite the styling (which I have grown to love, as it pisses off boring people who want me to act my age, which is 60 this year), it's actually a very unpretentious car. had over 65+; 1st to 2nd gear grind from the 1st grind @ 1,200 miles till the end of owner ship @ 9,118 miles! I was tired to taking it to the dealership & got the run around! If you look at all the euro spec R’s, you’ll know they’re the weirder version of the family, from the FD2 to the crazy FN2 and they simply couldn’t go with a subtle JDM style, like we know and love, to sell the car. So lunch trays off the bumpers, hood scoops, flares and the massive spoiler did the trick with sales.

Car and Driver has a piece on what’s functional and what’s a e s t h e t i c (for example, the open vents on the front fenders) and it’s debatable if a car that will likely *never* see a track (and would likely need upgrades before it does so seriously) should have such ostentatious design cues built in even if they’re functional at *track* speeds, but to each their own.
Obviously, the aero bits are tacked on to a vehicle designed around commuter practicality and fuel economy with some more meaningful alterations, which is why I added the note that the Senna is built around functional aero to a much greater extent as that car is a contender for peak example of function over form.
EDIT: So “built around functional aero” was admittedly an exaggeration on my part, but the bits most people complain about (like the aforementioned park bench) is functional albeit only at speeds which would cost you your license.

Simply amazing and fun to drive! It pulls hard all the way up to 7000 rpm, If I didn't pay attention I frequently found myself over 100 mph. Shifting through the gears was engaging and fun. I got a lot of attention on the road, and of course lots of people that wanted to race me. I absolutely loved this car. All that being said, it's just too racy looking for me. I wouldn't mind owning one as a "weekend" driver, but if I had a choice between my IS350 and this, I would pick my IS350 any day of the week. But at least I can say I've driven one, and I intend to "borrow" my friends Type R again!

On another note, similar to how f8x M3/4 with equal length midpipes can make the car actually sound great, this car can sound great with the right exhaust setup. What I’ve learned from my previous exhaust setups is that this car needs resonators, and a lot of them. My current exhaust setup has 3 resonators (1 main and 2 rear helmholtz) with a catted downpipe and I think it sounds good. It has a higher note but without the ricer rasp. Definitely not going to be a spoon s2000, but I wouldn’t consider it a bad sound.

Regular hatch needs fun colors like yellow. Getting a similar shade of blue from last year’s Type R is a start, but come on. Yellow, purple, orange, green! Let’s go!!

internal combustion engine will persist longer than you think. Many people will not buy electric vehicles. I predict several manufacturers will buck the mandate and continue to produce internal combustion engines.

Edison predicted EV 's would replace ICE vehicles in a couple of years. I think he said that @1910.

But this time the European Union has the political ambition to kill the internal combustion engine though, at least in the EU auto market... Between needing to meet Euro 7 emissions regulations and needing to meet 65 g CO2/km fleet average for your vehicles by 2032, you are going to struggle to make a business case for designing new internal combustion engines for the European market. [For reference, this Civic Type R makes 200 g CO2/km so it is nowhere close to meeting the requirements.]
In 2032, Honda would need to sell four EVs for every one Civic Type R they sell in Europe just to balance out their fleet CO2 emissions... Even in 2021 you need to meet 95 g CO2/km in the EU, so two Honda e need to be sold for every one Civic Type R sale in Europe!

Honda: OK, we'll tame the wild / samurai design of the 10th Gen and go with a more conservative, "boring" look in the 11th.
People: Nooo... Not that much !
