Anyone seeing this should give Kyle a follow. Super cool guy and rides the wheels off a bike. Keep the tips and videos coming. Glad we have you in Idaho as a local rider.
Thanks for the tips, Kyle 👍 I noticed that you had EV set to Auto. That’s fine in a open setting like the one in the video. In a forest or wooded environment where the light level changes a lot, I would set EV to 5000 for sunny day and 5500-6000 for cloudy or overcast day. This way you’ll get stable colours.
Awesome video Kyle, thanks so much for this content! Just got a GoPro 10 and I'm trying to decide if I should keep it or not. Excited to test these settings out asap. Hope you're doing good!
My GoPro 11 just arrived today and I have a drops and jump class this weekend near Seattle and will be at the Boise MTB park next week. Can't wait to see how the videos turn out now that I applied all the settings you recommended and have my chest strap ready to go too. Thanks, Kyle (from one of your Patreons)!
mike reynoldsguitar 23 hours ago I looked around and after much consideration i went for the hero 5 black, spent a week or so testing it out for what I intend to use it for that is mountain biking. I did various tests and i came up with the following settings that seem to work well. Resolution 2-7K '30FPS in superview, flat profile in protune, kelvin scale for WB, ISO at 400, auto shutter speed, EV comp adjusted for the conditions, sharp low and audio high. I use those settings for on bike footage taken from a chest mount, however for "B" roll stuff where I wanna slow it down i use 1080p @240 FPS in wide view. I did some tests adding this to a 2-7K timeline in my editor and i slowed it down and speed ramped it down to 25% and it works brilliantly!! I turn off GPS and I do not pair it with my phone, I have LEDs all off, i do use voice commands, auto off is set to never, screensaver is turned off, video format is set to NTSC (despite being in a PAL region) I colour correct using DaVinci resolve and it works great. I shot in 2-7K but downsampled it to 1080p on the video output and it looks just great!! In my opinion most of the problems surrounding these action cameras arise from improper use. Most people want to shoot at 4/5 K with a high FPS with very little proper ventilation. for extended amounts of time DO NOT DO THIS!!!! If you purchase this camera make sure you buy a PROPER SD CARD i use a Sandisk 128 GbV30 u3 A2 and i have no issues with freezing or overheating at all. I also purchased a couple of extra batteries complete with a charger via USB (Artman from amazon) Do not use this for talking heads vlogging at 4K and the highest FPS it will overheat !! I thoroughly recommend this camera i got mine down at MPB in the UK great value at around £150 i bought a chest mount and mounting case and it all works perfectly
Thanks for the tips! I'll add one more: Make sure you charge your batteries! haha. I went to go adjust my settings according to this video and realized that I forgot to charge the battery and I hadn't brought a spare. (Face Palm) Oh well, I took some notes and I'll be ready for next time.
i love your videos but I cannot do superwide, I just gotta dial in the angle or else! I failed about all of this , lol. I shoot 2.7/60, hypersmooth, iso min 100 max 800, color flat, WB native (well now I do after my first 2 videos were shot in auto white balance) my arms suffer spaghettification when I shoot superview, PLUS, it also flattens the steeps a little too much creating the "gopro" effect where things dont look as hard as they actually were. Also I ride in a ponderosa forest so the trees look better more straight in Linear than wide or superwide, for me. like i said, i aint trying to compete with your videos they are really well made!!! hope to meet you in sedona this december, come early or stay late, I got a boatload of trails in Pine to show you, about an hour away from Sedona
Change vid title From: Go Pro to GoPro.. You'll get a ton more views etc b/c that's how GP is generally used. I found your vid helpful & tried finding it again to show someone & couldn't find it easily. - another tip, if recording a good part; either stop recording afterwards or just clap once, so w/editing you'll see a spike in audio while editing. 🏔️🚲 Keep up the great vids! Wish the best for you all..!
Thank you for these tips! I’m looking for a GoPro camera for recording mtb riding mostly. What GoPro model would you recommend to consider for buying nowadays? Is 9 worth to buy or 8 is as good for my activities as 9 series?
Thanks for the tips, I have just purchased a hero 10 to record my biking, I noticed you had the gopro upside down, does the gopro automatically flip it the right way round? Or do I need to do it during editing? Thank you 👍😊
Hey Kyle... Quick question for you on the angle of the gopro on your chest: Ive been trying to dial the angle of the gopro to be the best for both sitting and when I stand and am charging downhill, but its been difficult... Any tips on that, I saw you had made some marks for consistency. Just something you found via trial and error which was best for you?
@@AprilRideMTB Makes sense! Thanks April 👍🏻 off to the driveway to get this figured out haha. I wonder if a gimbal could help also. Love the channel, take care
For me, this part was the easy part, footage looks great. But then comes the exporting it using a video software as single file, upload to TH-cam, and it looks crap. A tutorial on that would be great!
Hey Kyle, I have recently picked up GP 9 and wanted to know if you would use the boost function on top of the High Stabilization mode? I hear it crops quite a bit of the image.
Hey Kyle, probably one of the best GoPro setting explanation in TH-cam. Thanks!
Dude! Hands down the best help video of any kind I've seen on TH-cam, and I watch a lot of TH-cam 🤣. Keep up the good work!
Best film by far on setting up my GoPro . Cheers

Thank you so much i have the hero 8 and could not figure out the best settings, you helped me a lot!
" lets go down the the van...." not the first time i have heard this, never shy away from an invitation like that!!
Haha hasn't led me astray yet! Thanks for watching!
A trick: you can watch movies at kaldrostream. Been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Elijah Eli yea, have been using KaldroStream for since november myself :D

Oh, and you have to try the USWE chest mount 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
so do you shoot in superwide and then always crop in post? (and I assume that clip at the end was a cropped superwide clip?) thanks!
Excellent video, thanks!!
Glad you liked it!

Thanks for the tip!! I will update that and change the thumbnail a little too :)
Funny the only thing I had to change when making these setting on my hero 8 was 1080/30. Everything else was already set. Thanks
Thats awesome! Have fun using it Michael!

Thanks for the great vid Kyle.
What would you change for night riding with the hero 7?

is 1080 video quality enough? Like for good shots? and upload? especially if im using an android phone
excellent !
What a great vid, my settings were all wrong lol
we need to do a new one of these for the modern cameras!

Hi April here, trial and error and then marking the spot once you find it seems to be the best way to angle your go pro.
@@AprilRideMTB Makes sense! Thanks April 👍🏻 off to the driveway to get this figured out haha. I wonder if a gimbal could help also. Love the channel, take care

Superview seems to make footage look faster on the trail as well.
Yeah it totally does! Makes you actually look pinned haha
Hey Kyle, I have recently picked up GP 9 and wanted to know if you would use the boost function on top of the High Stabilization mode? I hear it crops quite a bit of the image.
Please make the chest mount link clickable. Great tips!!
Will do as soon as I stop driving today! Sorry about that! Thanks for the heads up!
What arm mount are you using? Like tag extended thing to clip the GoPro into?
Yeah like the slightly taller one
awesome
His GoPro 8 footage looks so much better than some people's GoPro10, what's the secret sauce here? Is it post-editing?
Bro one question, how do you stabilize your footage using only gopro hero 5?
Yo TH-cam ...why did you unsub me from Kyle ....Bad TH-cam ...Bad TH-cam ...Don't be like TH-cam ... I am now subbed again ...and bell is RUNG !!
Bad youtube haha! I think you will be stoked on next weeks videos! Assembly factory and Autonomy engine!
@@AprilRideMTB I sent you a comical email with invite as well deadthomas52@gmail.com if you got to many

Great feature presentation! I have a cheap SJ Cam for motovlogs (lol) Sent you an email but don't know if you received it?
Thanks! I really appreciate it! I haven’t seen an email but also been traveling for a few days!
@@AprilRideMTB I used the email address you posted here in YT to send you an email. Could be there somewhere. Let me know if you found it. Thanks!
What software do you use to edit your videos
Premiere pro
@@AprilRideMTB thank you
when you have the wind muff, do you set the mic settings to stereo?
Yeah exactly! It makes a huge difference!
I used they settings and u can see my handle bars but not my hands?
When I use a chest harness it picks up my heart beat...how do I keep my videos from going thump thump thump??
Oh wow! You could switch to a helmet chin mount or maybe get an external mic? We use the DJI mic.
Was that a hero 7 black?
Yeah hero 7 black!!
Kyle & April - Ride MTB ok, I was just wondering because I have a hero 7 black but I did not have 1080p as an option
Curious, what editing software do you use and platform (pc or mac?)?
I usually edit on a 2015 MacBook Pro using Adobe Premiere!
hello idol kyle and april
