  • I am going to show you the easiest and most consistent method I've found over the years for hitting drops, there are many ways to do drops but this is easiest way to learn in my opinion. In this video I coach my girlfriend through how to drop and she works up to the biggest drop she's ever done!

One thing to remember is that there are a ton of different riding styles and variable when it comes to drops, this is the method that has worked best for me and seemed to really click with April but there really isn't a definite one sized fits all approach to every drop. Sometimes the trail forces you to hit it with very little speed and in that case you will need to do more of a "manual" or "huck" off of the end but those are more advanced moves in my opinion. This method works best for drops with a little bit of speed and nice flat or slightly downward takeoff. Hope you guys enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions at all!

This honestly was the best explanation on dropping I have ever seen. I started mountain biking at 60 years old and now at 64 I am loving doing drops. I have not graduated to anything like the big one yet but after watching this I can see that it is possible. I have learned a ton from my 12 year old grandson but this video says it all. EX-ACT-LYY! I've watched Gmbn's tutorials on repeat, I tried to go over each and every word to find where I'm going wrong, or is it just me who is doing a unusual mistake that no one has ever? But then I came across these "champions" and BAM! Learned to Wheelie, Drop, Bunny hop..all of it in within a month... Crazy! isn't it? I've been practising Gmbn's way for over a year now and I still couldn't wheelie at all, I tried every other tutorial out there, But you know what? They all said the exact same thing! But then I thought I should enroll for some personal coaching and that's when I met you, you saved me a lot of money!Thank you!, For just existing... Love you guys!

This is the best drop video on TH-cam, hands down. You don't need much, if any, explosive movement on a drop. It's literally just shifting your weight back as your tire begins to go over the edge. There's no "lunging the bike" ahead of yourself either (unless you're going too slow). It's just tighten up your core, get your weight back until your arms almost lockout, and then come back forward in time to match the landing.
This vid shows the correct and the easiest technique for drops.

Just saw you in Rich Drew’s video, I live in KCMO close to bentonville, I’m 53, been riding for approx. 3 yrs. After watching several of your vids, you inspired me to share something I’ve been ashamed of most my life. I also have struggled with depression and anxiety/panic attacks most my life. Unable to take meds due to chronic stomach issues it’s been trial and error, the one thing I discovered recently that reduced my depression significantly was magnesium 64 from rising supplements, one a day. Thanks for the onnit 5htp recommendation, I still have a lot of panic/anxiety and will look into it. Needless to say life’s been a rocky ride so thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing, yeah its something i have struggled with my whole life as well and honestly biking , and giving back are the two things that have helped make me feel like life is worth living. I appreciate the honesty in your post and yeah definitely try 5htp or that new mood supplement from @onnit. I take that daily and i notice a huge difference if i skip some days

Really good video. The difference in technique between April’s first runs off the small drop and the big one at the end is incredible, she looks like a complete pro and the landing is lighter from the big drop than it was from the little one!
Definitely need to get out there and practise this as I think I still have a tendency to hop off drops.
