Wow that's revealing on the HDR mode. Is the latest FW installed? Probably reach out to GoPro on this. Also see if stabilization + HDR is an issue with the Max Lens 2.0? Anyway, thanks for the biker perspective on the Hero12. Looking forward to the investigation on this as I use this for MTB'ing and gravel too.
After owning about 10 GoPro's throughout the years from the 3+ to the 10, I left GoPro completely and went to DJI - it's an amazing difference. No more glitching, no more overheating, no more battery pulls to reset things.
I just got a GoPro for my bday. The hero 12. With the media mod. My first GoPro and I’m actually really impressed. Great little camera to throw in a pocket and vlog. In good light, it’s great! And I like the colors and dynamic range, and yes, the FOV. Love the GoPro! Just a fun little camera. And I don’t even use it for action. Just a pocket camera. And good still photos. Do you think the 11 & 12 are identical, IQ wise? PS: I’m impressed with how good this looks in your Studio lighting. Go go, GoPro!
My biking hypersmooth looks terrible with the 12 - my 11 walked away when I left it on a loading dock (boating anchor chain shot). I really appreciate your review - and I'll see if I can get to where you are . . . Pretty much complaint free.
Thanks for the concise analysis; I still have an older Sony mirror less alpha Nex 7 which has served me well when I travel, Although in my “amateur estimation” if I were shooting online content I would definitely utilize an (A7-4) this would be my primary (A-Camera) the go pro 11 would be my (Field B-camera) and the results of the GP-12 appear to be subpar so I would definitely box that up and return it and then send GO Pro a detailed account of the underperformance, just my thoughts…
any update on the hypersmooth and hdr? i shot some footage yesterday with hdr and it seems ok via my instagram cut.. ill will have to look at it more closely on my pc monitors when i get home today
the hero 12 over sharpen by default when filming your face. changing that in post should improve it significantly for that use case. Usually not a big deal for action shots.
Exposure is too high for GP 12 in studio... causing the highlights on skin tone and other locations to bleed into different colors/tones. Otherwise, looks a bit out of focus being "so close;" at least it does on my low, low-res playback on a monitored 5G network.
are You familiar with ReelSteadyGo (invented by Robert Macintosh)software which was purchased by GoPro and was partially implemented into gopros, but one can still use that ReelSteadyGo software after, but it needs to use GPS info to stabilize . ReelSteadyGo is much better than any of the internal Gopro have. I wonder if this 12 version clips still can be run through ReelSteadyGo, which i am guessing not anymore. are you familiar with ReelSteadyGo at all?
How do you think this works in low light? Thinking of getting the Hero 9 or 11 for low natural sunlight lit videos but I'll also be using Aputure AL-528w and Neewer Bi-Color 660 LED lights? Maybe 3 or 4 lights (haven't decided which lights and how many) P.S. This would be mounted on a stand - I don't really care about the stabilization. Just the video quality. I also have 2 canon m50's so also wondering if this would be an "upgrade" to a camera that is easier to use and more productive/sustainable OR if the m50's are probably just still better(even if they are trickier to use) Thanks! :)
I would definitely not buy a GoPro for low light. Your smart phone will be better, especially if it’s an iPhone. I love android but for video iPhones still reign supreme.
@@ClintGibbs 😭 it's a samsung galaxy s9.. lol But ok. Good point./ When I say low light I mean as in natural light. It would have a hellll of a lot of light if I used 4 or even all 7 of my LED lights. so. not sure if that matters
HDR with poor stabilization is a no go.
I bet they fix with a software upgrade. Keep us posted if you find a fix.

Walk toward the light, Clint - running is fantastic!

I thought the newer ones didn't have an issue with overheating ?

I need to make sure I'm off HDR - that has to be it. Thanks again.

I have seen that HDR hyper smooth issue too. Glad it’s not just me. I too thought I had turned off hyper smooth
Thanks for posting… it’s also good to know it’s not just me! Hopefully it’ll be fixed with some kind of firmware update.
Thanks for the video. Have you ever test the HDR stabilization with chin mount?
Not yet

pulling out the skinny pop for this one!

First time I've ever seen _outdoor_ ceiling fans!? 😮
Common in the south east
Probably keep mozzies away too, it's a good idea!

I have not used that but I have used GoPro software on the computer. It worked very well for a situation where I forgot to turn on stabilization
Want to buy but no money
Every blogger is reviewing this thing, i'm still sporting a gopro 7 and a 9....I think the best reason to upgrade is the battery life....

@14:00 maybe you answered my last question here haha but your indoor studio looks pretty well lit 🤔

@@ClintGibbs Thanks for the response though :)
Maybe try a helmet mount with HDR?
Is worth upgrading from the Hero 9?
In my opinion yes because I think you will experience much fewer crashes.
@@ClintGibbs Getting crashes with the 12 then?
@@jono12341000 none so far
