That sucks man, its the worst feeling! I wish I could delete modes / settings. All photo modes would be be the first to be deleted. The only time i take a photo is on accident :P
@@SkillsWithPhil Great video btw!, thanks for taking the time of showing us all your setup. I race XC so my best option is to use a chest mount. I have a 7 black, but I think I might upgrade to a 10+lens mod for a better footage, as you mention.
Definitely the most useless Gopro shortcut. If I'm going to start recording a timelapse, I'm in no hurry, I can boot up the camera, choose the mode and start it... 😠On the Gopro 8, the timelapse shortcut is a double tap on the record button, which, since the gopro is kinda slow to start, happened to me more than once thinking the first tap didn't work...
Always do these setup videos please. It may be true that they may not interest "everyone". But that is because your audience consists of far more than just people wanting to know how to ride or that simply enjoy living vicariously through your adventures. It also consists of a handful of us who are building our own adventures, and are seeking out the trailblazers that we relate with most to learn from. These gopros are agonizing to learn how to work with all the technology. So your take, on your setup, and your reasoning behind those choices, is important. We appreciate this shared information, presented like it came from an old friend.
Not lying, I've been looking for a gopro to start a channel and have been considering it heavily. This video is exactly what I needed how did you know 😂
I discovered your channel recently and thoroughly enjoy it!! Given the vids I’ve watched on your channel, I thought I understood the fact that you put a lot of effort into them. But WOW, I really didn’t have any idea after seeing this vid. Thanks for explaining not just your process, but the reasons behind many of your decisions. You are truly a First Class Act and a magnificent “Ambassador” to not just MTB but to MTB (and its peripherals) videography in general. I ALWAYS look forward to your next vid. Well Done again!! Please continue to be inspiring Sir! Peace
i did the same position and just used that amazon gopro mount for motorcycles and cut the straps off then used zipties im glad you did that other gopro video or i wouldnt of had that idea i really hope i get to meet you when i go to thunder mountain you keep me pushing to be a better rider keep the videos going and ill keep supporting! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
I bought some silicone sleeves for my gopro and superglued the deadcats to that. I also cut a flap where battery cover is, so I can access battery w/o removing sleeve. Keep up the great work Phil.
I am adding "Swoopty Doopty" to my vocabulary. Some good info in this vid, thanks for taking the time to make it and share it out. I think the reason these vids do lower numbers overall is because they are a bit more specific towards people who create content, which is not the majority of YT watchers so it is information that doesn't apply to them specifically. I always find them interesting, I know Loam Ranger usually does one every year or so and a few others do them randomly so it is good to compare what others use and I tend to get more interested in messing with my settings after seeing others settings as well.
Oh absolutely, there's less people who are actually interested in recording video than there are people who prefer simply watch videos. I consistently get asked what my settings are and it often seems like the videos that answer those questions are never seen by those asking. 🙃
@@SkillsWithPhil .....I was one of the people who has asked about your settings on some of your most recent videos, and it's for a very simple reason. I think your footage is the best out there, and I want to emulate what you're doing. I did that with the 7 from the first time I saw your comparison video of it versus the previous versions, and how the chin mount was clearly the best choice. I can't count how many people asked me about my settings, and I just referred them all to that video as to why I use the chin mount. It made my videos infinitely better just with that change. So...naturally, I wanted to know what you're using now, and your settings, and now my questions are answered. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO, even if it doesn't appeal to as many viewers, because it's a service to the whole of TH-cam and mountain bikers to get people to make better videos that are good to watch. And I mean that!
Good stuff, thanks. I still think the chest mount is the best mount for me. Of course i dont ride as gnarly stuff as you do, but for me it shows the handlebars the best way and gives some ”action” to the video. Chin mount, for me, seems to miss the handlebars, or if the handlebars are shown the horizon disappears a bit… Though I like your stuff so, what ever works! Keep it up! Cheers from Finland!
I'm a fan of the chest mount angle with a gimbal or 360 cam, but as i mentioned both of those have shortcomings. If the hero Max didn't have such a frustrating work flow I'd be more inclined to use it, but the software is a big deal breaker.
@@kenai_the_asian8106 I took the camera to the chest a month ago...The camera was uninjured, but I wasn't. The worst part was my GoPro wasn't recording because the battery wiggled loose.
I have extensively tested all POV angles (yup I’m a nerd). I’ll be posting a side by side comparison video soon. The chesty is good for sure, it really looks good if and when riding tight twisty corners… BUT…. The camera POV is always in the centre of the screen which limits of feel of riding, and with the bike in front of the camera and always fixed in the centre of the screen, it actually hides the trails, it also hide the gradient of the trail. Example, when dropping into a steep rooty section, the Gnartec Chin Mount showed the trail ahead and the gradient, the chesty POV had the bike hide the trail ahead and lacks the movement and real onboard feeling of Chin Mount. Another also, my friend broke his sternum and 3 ribs due to a crash with his chest cam on. Here is what I think the ultimate POV set-up th-cam.com/video/-lS5L1E78tk/w-d-xo.html
Hi Phil, a lot of really useful real world tips in here that will make recording a lot easier and less stressful which will result in much better results! Love the channel and I hope you are keeping well!
hey cob. just a quick lil tip. the gopro mount part you cable tie to the bottom of your RPC fits perfectly in the grill of your RPC. all it takes is 2 cable ties to poke through. i put one around the thicker part of the clip then one overlapping all of the clip. this allows the gopro to sit just in front of the grill and not dangle down like a dag ;) haha
I just bought a 2nd Hero 7 Black to film POV from my girlfriend. I didn't want her to have to fumble with a chest mount (what I always use) so I rigged it to her full face. WOW! It turned out great and I might start doing the same with mine.
Thanks Phil, exactly the vid I was looking for. Wife and I have a 9 and 10, and been playing with both camera settings and mounting options. This really helped
Thanks for the video Phil! Attention to detail about video recording makes such a difference, and there’s a lot to learn. I appreciate you taking the time to put this together. Cheers!
Thanks for your highly detailed explanation for what works for you and can work for others too. This will save people loads of time and money. Test and Tune!
I’ve been wondering this for so long! Very useful information. Your videos are always super clear and greet to watch. I also was at Rays the same day you were. So upset I didn’t get to see you doing some sweet jumps!
Thanks Phil! This is the exact video I needed. I’ve been contemplating my angles and settings for a while now. Kinda difficult to know for a beginner filmer.
Sup phill just want to say ur awesome and thanks for all these helpful vids u make and also you should go to highland more cuz that's like my home moutain and I love to see all the jumps and gaps u do.
I find the mounting section super helpful. My Bell helmet squeaks pretty violently with the camera mounted on the top and I've been less excited with the chest mount, so I've been at a loss.
This was super helpful! Thank you for sharing and going into detail for why you use the setting that you do, the simplicity is amazing and doing it a way that encourages you to keep doing videos instead of wanting to avoid the editing process speaks to me!
I just picked up a gp10 to upgrade from a gp8(i have tested a 9 and was'nt impressed enough to get one tbh). So i plugged in my settings from the 8 as i am pretty happy with how it has performed esp in low light/under tree cover settings etc. I watched this video out of curiousity and set up a profile with your settings (as they differ to mine in ISO and White Balance) and did a back to back test between the 2 and yours definitely helped the hypersmooth more. The light was sunny so quite dappled under-cover and i am using a chesty. Thanks for sharing your settings
I’ve watched all of your tutorial vids for gopro now and they’re all super helpful! I have a new hero9 and was playing around with it today. Mounted it to the chin of my TLD Stage helmet with a 3D printed mount and zip-ties and it works great. Setting the EV Comp and white balance was big. Can’t wait to get out and film more and understand this stuff better. Peace 🤜🤛
Awesome info’. I’ve been using your settings from your last GoPro setup video, and it’s definitely made a difference in playback quality, and ease of editing. Keep doing what you!
