    Hey from Tulsa - thanks for the tips.

    I’m halfway finished dipping 220 pickets and this is hands down the BEST idea I’ve ever gotten from TH-cam. No wasted stain! NONE! My neighbors agree-it’s a brilliant setup. 👍🏽😎

      Glad it's working out for you......it takes a bit of work to setup, but its the best way to make sure you are covering each picket 100% and don't have to worry about overspray onto your neighbors car or renting a sprayer that will waste 20%......good luck

    Ingenious idea with the dipping. I actually thought of this idea and typed it in to Google and found your vid. Ready seal is very easy to work with and goes on beautiful, but it needs extra coats and few years later to stay looking good. I used a pump sprayer on my fence in the past to apply it and it is a mess:(

    Great idea! I am going to use this for my 600 odd pickets. Thanks for the video and idea. I have stained a fence in the past and thought that was just stupid hard long work.....using this method will be great.

    Man you did a great job! What an ingenious framework. I am so adopting this idea. Thank you!

      Thanks...….lots of work but a true privacy fence in the end. Better to stain the wood first vs spraying it later.

      I took your idea and went to have a metal shop guy made me a 6 x 6 x 120 inches. I also want to dip the posts with Wolman Copper coat. Thank you for the brilliant idea!

      sure thing......dipping all my fence pickets and rails was the way to go in my case, spraying the fence once it's built was not going to happen.

    What a fantastic idea!! Thank you MB!
    Wondering if I will need to put the unused stain from the trough back in the bucket between work periods? I have 320 pickets to dip and a small work area so I may have not be able to finish them in 1 day. Since it's oil I'm thinking it may be ok during breaks and overnight. What do you think?

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always returned the unused stain to the original can because it was going to be several days before I stained again.......but it's up to you. If you can store it in the well for a few days.....or longer, it should not be a problem. I built a drain into the one I built so I could remove the stain . Good luck!

    Great idea. Going to use your method. Did you do a 2nd coat? I’m hoping that dipping will give them a chance to soak up more stain so another coat won’t be needed.

    How long did your Ready Stain last vefore you had to restain? Some stains are claiming 7-10 years now. I think the best I ever got was 4 or 5 years before.

      I like you use a regular stain sprayer to add stain to my fence from time to time. Some fades quicker because it’s in the sun……some slower decayed of shade. It depends on several factors like the weather where you live. I would say you will probably get 3-5 years out of it before you would need to stain them again.

    YOU CAN PLACE PLASTIC ON TOP OF THE PVC PIPE SO YOU CAN CHANGE COLORS AT ANY TIME FOR MASS PRODUCTION.

    Do you think there would be a big advantage to dipping them again after they dried? I only need about 150 pickets.

    I like your idea. But that being said, I'd like to make a vacuum chamber to do mine. But I figured out that would be really $ I thought about using 24" pipe and a TD Williams closure

    Sir what did you use to cap the ends of the 8” pvc pipe and how did you seal it or make it stick to the pvc pipe? Thank you.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can buy solid pvc caps made for PVC-SDR35 sewer pipe and just use pvc glue to glue them on.......no leaks.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You buy the pipe and the caps from your local water & sewer supply house. Big box stores will not have it.......

    This is genius! Im about to do a cedar fence and was wrestling with how i was going to stain everything. This sounds like a great approach, did you have any problems with dripping etc when the pickets were drying? Good job!

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As you can see.....I made a standing rig out of wide gutter and placed it on an angle so they would drain extra stain into a catch pan so it could be re-used again. I covered my garage floor with plastic...….this takes a little time to setup but when you have several hundred pickets to stain, it's a huge time saver plus it covers all sides of the picket evenly.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Biggest problem is finding a pipe long enough to stain your 8' long 2x4 rails. I work in the water/sewer field so I used a scrap piece of 8" dia. waterline pipe and cut it in half......then I sealed each end and put a drain in one end to drain out the stain each time. The stain really soaked into the pickets and they still look like the day I stained them.

    • @PropPlanePat
      @PropPlanePat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@masterblaster3865 Thanks for the reply. I should have made myself clearer, by dripping I really meant as in did you have any problems with drip marks on the pickets doing it that way vs for instance brush painting or spraying. Thanks again!

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issues...….cedar soaks in the stain fast, and as I said....I stood them up vertical to allow them to "drip dry". The stain/sealer I used is fool proof......no issues with runs or what not. I just stained 25 more pickets this morning to add to my fence......I decided to roll them with a paint roller and it took me an hour. Dipping them would have taken 10 minutes.

    How long did you let the wood dry before you dipped them in the stain? Did you buy the wood from a lumber yard or from HD or Lowes?

    How many pickets did you staying and how many gallons did you use?
    Thank you

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I stained about 1,000 6' and 8' pickets altogether.......not sure how much stain I used, several 5 gallon containers worth.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amount of stain depends on how dry your pickets are and how long they are. You want them to be dry for sure.....that way they will soak up a good amount of stain and you won't have to stain the fence for several years.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used several 5-gallon containers...….stained over 600 pickets and 100 2x4 rails......just depends on how much fence you have. Stain I used was $125 for 5 gallons at Home Depot

    How did the secure set work? where did you purchases it?

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Secure set works fine in dry soil...…..further research I found another supplier that makes a foam that can be used in wet conditions and it won't affect the strength of the foam. If Secure Set makes contact with water it will not work properly and it will be super weak.....look for what they call "hydrophobic" foam.....it's better.
      I live near Oklahoma City and it's made there......you can buy it from their web site or other sites.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Secure set works pretty good as long as the soil (the hole) is completely dry. If you have even the smallest chance of water or even moisture in the soil, I would recommend using a "hyperphobic foam"......Rainbow Technology has such a foam that works in wet conditions great. Secure set will react with water and cause it to fail......so don't use it unless your holes are dry.

    • @masterblaster3865
      @masterblaster3865  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry......you can buy secure set directly from the MFG cheaper then Amazon. I got lucky because it's made close to where I live (OKC) so I went directly to the source, but they will ship it to you.
