- Three people have been killed in a shooting at a luxury shopping mall in the centre of Thailand's capital, Bangkok, medics say.
Four other people were injured in the incident, including a foreign national.
A suspect - a 14-year-old boy - has been arrested after surrendering. He had been using a handgun, police said.
The prime minister said the situation had been brought under control and police were clearing the scene, according to the AFP news agency.

i’m from thailand and my friend knew the 14 year old. apparently prior to this, he stopped talking to everyone and kept to himself. also apparently he was a schizophrenic.
Oh a girl I knew before she moved is classmates with him I think, I'm not sure though
did he go to public school or private school? I'm guessing public. If so, he'd never get any help for schizophrenia....

I just retired and moved back to Thailand. Yesterday, I was about to leave the mall after a meal. Heard the commotion; people started to run out towards all doors. Within 15-20 mins the doors were barred; and the BTS monorail station entrance was (initially) blocked as to prevent the culprit's escape. Some people were hiding within the closed stores, we talked to one girl who came down an elevator alone from a gym to a complete empty ground floor; then hid in one of the stores.. [Throughout the incident, somehow the "Emergency Alert" didn't go off on the phones. Can someone pls comment if there is such system here?] The strongest thing has to be the location of the crime which is kitty corner from the Police Headquarter!?! My hearts go to the family of the victims. Fortunately, I survived. And, I hope not to experience any more incident like this.

Thank you sir and I am Thai people.
I'm from Indonesia. I found out about this news from a TikTok live stream. The perpetrator was a 14 year old boy. The weapon used is a small pistol.
There are 4 people were killed by this hell boy and the sadness is , one of killed people was Chinese Mom who had 5 years old twin-children were also present in the incident. 😥
Nakhon Ratchasima 2 years ago, Nong Bua Lamphu last year, Siam Paragon this year ( just few days before Nong Bua Lamphu birthday )....Thailand is sick of its gun and weapons culture, and mental health problems is big issue too ( with yaba as well ).....very sad.
I feel sorry for Thailand people.
😢😢
Its unfortunately not "unusual" there was a similar attack 3 years ago.
I've read that gun ownership is quite high in Thailand.
Illegal gun too.
thats unusual.
The perpetrator being a kid is unusual. Usually it's ex-military or ex-police having a mental break due to financial/family problems.
@@abmong actually adolescent shooters are _extremely_ common, perhaps more than any other group. It's because the brain of a teen isn't fully developed with the prefrontal cortex, so a teen might make poor decisions. They are also flooded with various hormones and feelings at that age so they are more likely to be impulsive and use a gun if they can get hold of one.
That child should be punished for what he had done🙂 and his family should pay for those injured people
😥🙏
Rip rip
Is it on Silom Road? Have they released the names of the three killed? This is terrible news out of Thailand.
I heard the guy has mental problems, his doctor confirmed. If a thai person is here would be nice he could comment/confirm about this information. Thank you
I'm baffled how the gunmen able to smuggled the gun inside considering that is always a security check inside the mall.
good question.
The metal detector may have been unmanned, they're easy to walk around. Or he could have gotten in through a non-public entrance.
@@donfarang is it easy to get guns in thailand?
Let me answer that for you as a Thai citizen. Most metal detector in thailand including department store and subway etc. either don’t work or work without any alarm. Securities wont even try to check your belonging if at all, sometimes just bag check for 1-2 sec at the most. So… yup for a pistol like this case, I can easily smuggle in my pants into bangkok major department stores.
@@frankjames7272 Very easy... I've heard even available on FB market place.
What's happened in this world???!!!
due to ancient viruses unknown to modern science are slowly being released from melting ice caps and mess up people's minds which will eventually affect their behaviour and attitude
For obvious reasons I wish Bangkok was like the town of Chillingbourne.
how thigh there security for that guy's gun to pass inside?
How come go in the suspect in to the mall,?

Wow, that was the mall I stayed beside Novotel Bangkok. That's strange, they have a lot of security and electronic screening at the entrances. Must be fake screening.
Good point maybe due to his age he just skirted by the security desks and magnetic monitors

Juvenile laws shouldn't apply on this kind of massacre incidents, the killer shouldn't be protected under this kind of situation. Death penalty must be applied. Teenagers nowadays are not that innocence & they know the consequences of killing another person, they must pay the price of their actions. Many teenagers misused juvenile laws & they escaped severe punishments even their actions causing huge problems to the community or destroying others life. Intentive murder is unforgivable.
The suspect is still a teenager

according to Thai law, a minor (< 15 years old) is not subjected to criminal prosecution, so he won't go to jail or get any punishment.
I figure he was hired to do it. Works well.
He looks more like an American 14 year old..

Bangkok is getting dangerous. The last time i was there was metals detractors, body check in shopping malls n rubbish bins is not allowed for fear of hiding bombs.
Everywhere in the world is the dangerous.
This is beyond concerning.... There was another incident of a schoolboy shooting/attacking his fellow students in Belgrade earlier this year. There have also been what are called 'mudjima' crimes in South Korea - where people have randomly attacked strangers in public places.
I know there are even more incidents across the world, but the ones I've mentioned are what come to my mind.
****
I also saw updates (after this report) about a shooting in Rotterdam, Holland just last week. And.....a young girl (15) was s+@&ed in Croydon, South London also last week- this is not too close, but not too far from where I live (40 minute bus ride).
Stay safe everyone - the world is getting more 'openly' dangerous by the minute. 😳🥺
Yeah there’s also one school boy in Singapore with axe. The issue is they are all rich children. This Thai one is a student of private school and was treated at a private hospital for mental health.
Violence has spread like a global epidemic. Be prepared for what will soon become commonplace in our way of life, such as school and mall shootings. The issue is that the government has never implemented any safety protocols in school zones. I know it's nearly impossible to keep it out of areas like huge shopping malls. In this situation, metal detectors are worthless.
@@jasperherr8694Yeah just like the Americans. They're richer by Asia standards and their kids get everything yet they still shooting each other and blame it on "mental illness". Once Thailand creates awareness programs for the "trouble" kids then we will expect to see more violence from Thai's privileged youth. Mental healthcare is a booming business, along with vaccines.
@@jasperherr8694 Even in Singapore? How recent was this incident? And you do make a true observation that some preparators of these crimes can come from affluent backgrounds, because of pressure and comparison with their peers to be 'No. 1 at everything' which is impossible - but some can also come from more 'standard' backgrounds - it's across the board really. But when a person reaches that psychological breaking point, God alone can only help us 🤲😢🙏
That 14 year old was wearing American flag cap...Not hard to guess from where this inspiration comes from.
